| Alban's Bottle & Basket | Birmingham, MI | |
|
Have a good Sunday brunch which should appeal to those with an
appetite and a budget - plenty of good food at a reasonable price.
Chef-made omelettes to-order were probably the best item available.
Nothing else stood out in my mind. Service is very attentive.

| Red Hawk Bar & Grill | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
Enjoy Red Hawk's food and beverage. It's a nice place
to go for a quick meal prior to a concert or play at nearby venues
like Hill Auditorium, Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre or Power Center,
which are all within easy walking distance. One needs to arrive
early, however (5:30 - 6) as seating is limited and Red Hawk does
not usually seat parties unless everyone is present. After that
waits are normal, with only a small bar area or a very cramped entranceway
available. Food is good and ample for the price.

| Zingermans Delicatessen | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
An Ann Arbor institution! Everyone should dine at Zingerman's
and/or walk through it on a regular basis. One of the best deli's
in Michigan, if not the best. Some items might seem pricey, but
the quality and taste are worth it. Near Kerrytown and the Ann
Arbor Farmer's Market, so this makes a great place to dine
after visiting those areas.

| Afternoon Delight | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
We generally only patronize Afternoon Delight on Sundays for
a brunch meal, but that experience makes it worth a rating. While
the brunch menu remains essentially the same, the items are very
plentiful and well done. As a result, the brunch also results
in enough leftovers for a second or third meal during the week.
The Wait Staff is very efficient, and coffee refills come quickly.
For hearty appetities, try the Meat Boules, which are very tasty
& huge!

| Heidelberg Restaurant | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
With the Old German gone from the Ann Arbor scene and Metzger's
on the edge of town, this is the only game in downtown for German
food. Unfortunately, the Heidelberg just hasn't taken
advantage of that, and in my mind still remains third. Meals have
always varied in quality, and the restaurant has an overall dark
atmosphere that is unappealing to me. Hoewever, sometimes it's
simply time for German fare, and if you want to be in the downtown
area, this is the place to go.

||
| Mediterrano | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
This is the type of place that you don't think about going
out of your way to go to, but enjoy while you're there, then
don't rave about it and therefore don't have any "can't
wait to get back" feelings about. I believe that Mediterrano
lives off its close proximity to Briarwood Mall and evening traffic
from folks in the area who sometimes simply don't wish to
go downtown for a meal and put up with the parking hassles.
<br>
That all adds up to a place that's fine to visit on an occasional
basis, but not someplace to put on your list of hotspots. Not memorable
dining.

| Prickly Pear Southwest Cafe | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
Prickly Pear used to have some of the more creative and unique
offerings in Southwestern fare around. Always enjoyed their
meals as a fun change of pace. Haven't been there of late and
was dismayed to see another review citing a decline in fare ...
hope this isn't so, since I haven't dined there since
last summer. Will make PP a stop in our weekly visit to Ann Arbor's
downtown, and lively, Summer scene.

||
| Zanzibar | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
Rate this "good" as the meals will vary from average
to very good depending on what one orders - rather hit or miss.
Portions also vary greatly, so ask your Waitperson about both
the portion size and whether they've tried the dish. Most
have been quite forthcoming about the fare. Zanzibar is also
a place for the concert crowd and the staff is very good at timing
your meal to get you out on schedule ... if you let them know in advance.

||
| Cottage Inn Pizza | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
Once Ann Arbor's premier pizza site, Cottage Inn is now by-and-large
just another pizza joint. Still it's worth a visit or two
per year, and for some, their pizza is #1. Try a great Greek Salad
to accompany your pizza!

||
| Flim Flam Restaurant & Deli | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
A great spot for a quick, good and reasonable breakfast if you're
on the NE side of town.
|
||
| Casey's Tavern | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
A hang-out spot for the Medical Center Crowd ... the place to go
for "fluid rounds". Food that I've had there
is good, but generally average. Usually I find that the majority
of the fun of being there is the fact that it's an upbeat and
lively place.
|
||
| West End Grill | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
A great place for that "special occasion" as it is
an intimate setting with outstanding food and service. It is
one of the pricier spots in Ann Arbor and worth every dollar. Plan
to make reservations well in advance as bookings fill up early
and the restaurant is not that large.

||
| Cafe Marie of Ann Arbor | Ann Arbor, MI | |
|
Usually visit Cafe Marie for breakfast or brunch, so this rating
only covers those meals. Food is very good, service is fast and
with folks waiting to be seated on weekends the restaurant has
a following of folks who would agree! Try the breakfast skillet
meals!

||
| Box Bar | Plymouth, MI | |
|
Renovated and added-onto in the past few years, the Box Bar is
a Plymouth institution and a "must visit" place.
Food is hearty fare, with plenty of it, at a very reasonable price
for lunch or dinner. Substitutions are cheerfully made in most
instances. With over 40 beers on tap and 200 more varieties in
bottles, it is difficult not to find multiple beers to complement
any meal and satisfy any taste. Seating is plentiful and booths
are very roomy, adding to a positive dining experience. No, not
fine dining, but fun, satisfying dining. Try the Pulled Pork
Sandwich or the Sausage Sampler with Red Cabbage for a filling
treat!

||
| Cafe Bon Homme | Plymouth, MI | |
|
A great French restaurant with wonderful food, sauces and presentation
by an attentive staff. Don't go if you're in a hurry or
on a budget. Upscale dining at its best.
|
||
| Ernesto's | Plymouth, MI | |
|
Ernesto's is really three places: the main dining area,
the smaller "under the hill" downstairs area and
the back patio/deck (in warmer weather). Having had meals in
all areas, and results that ranged from bad to excellent, I'd
have to give an overall rating of average. When done correctly,
the meals are great, even when served in bulk like one wedding
rehearsal dinner buffet. But, results can and do vary. My favorite
is the back Patio area in the Summer which has heaters for cool
evenings. Prices are reasonable with nice quantities of food.

||
| Station 885 | Plymouth, MI | |
|
Must always hit 885 on an "off night" (in comparison
to the other reviews). Find the food to be average at best, with
a poor beer selection. But the overhead train keeps the children
happy as do the passing trains (common in Plymouth), which will
rattle the establishment they're so close by. So for family
train "fun", it's lots cheaper than going to
Ann Arbor's gandy Dancy!
|
||
| Three Brothers Restaurant | Plymouth, MI | |
|
Polish food and lots of it! This is simply a restaurant, and makes
no pretensions about atmosphere or decor. They serve hot, hearty
food, and plenty of it, at a reasonable price. Hungry? Go for it!
|
||
| Water Club Seafood Grill | Plymouth, MI | |
|
Located on Ann Arbor Road at I-275, this establishment has changed
hands multiple times in the past decade and struggles for existance.
Not certain that it even exists as The Water Club any more. Lack
of traffic has led to a rather bland menu with rather bland results,
regardless of the name of the establishment. Would not recommend
dining there unless it gets rave reviews from several local food
critics.
|
||
| The Plymouth Fish Seafood Market & Restaurant | Plymouth, MI | |
|
Based upon reputation alone this would be a place for a casual
meal. Food is even better. One of Plymouth's better kept
secrets, it's in the Old Village section of town so one can
catch a good, inexpensive meal and browse antiques in the same
area.
