| Lonestar Steak House | Midvale, UT | |
|
Lone Star has become one of our favorite hangs now that we do not go to
Oyster Bar anymore. The service is always good, even if we show up way
late. EXCELLENT burgers!

| Gandolfo's New York Deli | Salt Lake City, UT | |
|
I'm with everyone else. Gandolfo's ROCKS! Quizno's
is not bad for a sandwich chain, but they still taste "processed"
to me. Gandolfo's ingredients and interesting variety of sandwiches
put them on the top of the heap.

| Chicago Hamburger Co | Phoenix, AZ | |
|
Way yummy, and pretty darned authentic. The cheese sliders are
right on. Chicago dogs are as close as you'll get in this town,
and perhaps the state. Unfortunately they aren't as good
as those at our AAA baseball park in Salt Lake City or I'd have
given 5 stars.

| La Caille Restaurant Corp | Sandy, UT | |
|
For anyone who knows anything about fine dining, La Caille is
a total joke. Yes, the grounds are beautiful, and yes the waitresses
show a bunch of cleavage, but PLEASE! Neither have anything to
do with haute cuisine. The food is average at best...I only remember
my lobster bisque. The service is totally laughable and unprofessional.
Our server, not realizing the bottle of champagne was too warm,
opened it and let half of it bubble over and spill onto the floor.
When we demanded a full, properly chilled bottle she came back
and poured into my glass, tilting it like it was a beer stein. Total
freaking ripoff!

| Nypd Pizza | Scottsdale, AZ | |
|
Popped in for lunch and was very impressed. Good service in a nice
place, excellent pizza and icy mugs of beer. How can you go wrong?

| Los Olivos Mexican Patio | Scottsdale, AZ | |
|
My first Arizona Mex meal, and still one of my favorites, cetainly
nostalgic.
Friends had raved about Los Olivos for years...when I finally
got there I knew
what they were talking about. Old school, down home Mex done right,
and the setting is lovely.

| El Charro | Tucson, AZ | |
|
I love El Charro...usually have dinner at the downtown location
and lunch (almost always Carne Seca Tacos done Baja Style).
Service may not be the greatest, but the food is wonderful...especially
anything with Carne Seca...their's is supposedly the first,
and it is certainly the finest I have enjoyed in my trips to Tucson.

||
| On the Border Mexican Cafe | Tucson, AZ | |
|
Decent Tex Mex chain, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere. While
there are certainly dozens of worthy Sonoran-style places in
Tucson, if you're looking for a different style of Mex you
could do worse than On The Border.

| Salsa Brava | Flagstaff, AZ | |
|
Been eating at Salsa Brava for years...back to when they just
had the narrow space in the strip mall on Butler. Now they've
expanded the first place and added a second out on Rt 66 and have
managed to do so while maintaining their consistency. The salsa
bar is wonderful. Fave dishes include the Baja Rolls and Spinach
and Portobello enchiladas.

| Herrera Mexican Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
My fave TexMex going back to high school and the original location
on Maple (catty corner from the current Maple digs). The best
salsa, best flour tortillas and best Tex Mex in town.
|
||
| Cafe Brazil | Dallas, TX | |
|
Great place...especially after a night out doing Big D. Broad
selection...healthy portions with some unique dishes. Definitely
worth a visit, any time of day.
|
||
| Chuy's Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Chuy's ROCKS! Great swirl margaritas. Love those ultra
thin chips and good salsa.
My fave is number 4...cheese enchilada with chile gravy and the
world's best crispy chile relleno (cheese) with that fabulous
Deluxe Tomatilla sauce.

||
| Peggy Sue B B Q | Dallas, TX | |
|
Brisket was dry as a bone. Sides were good, sausage OK. Sauce is
fair, the hot version is better. Maybe I'll try ribs if I go
back, but I prefer places that have good brisket.
|
||
| Sonny Bryan's Barbecue | Dallas, TX | |
|
Whoever was talking about waiters must be talking about some
other place...there are no waiters at the Inwood Rd location,
which is THE Sonny Bryan's to enjoy.
A couple of brisket sannies, some O-rings with a bottle of sauce
to pour on them.
YUM!
|
||
| Dickey's Barbecue Pits | Dallas, TX | |
|
Good, consistent Q. Awesome selection of side dishes. My 3rd
favorite sauce behind Sonny Bryan's and Solly's.
|
||
| Pappas Bar-B-Q | Dallas, TX | |
|
Good Q...get a stuffed baked potato. I wouldn't drive out
of my way for Q and go to Pappas, but if I was in the area and was craving
smoked meat I would stop in in a heartbeat.
|
||
| Solly's Bar-B-Que Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Too bad that Solly's is gone forever. The BEST potato salad
and kickbutt slaw. Fabulous double-cooked fries. Excellent
brisket and sausage and my 2nd favorite sauce. BOOHOO!
|
||
| Fonda San Miguel Restaurant | Austin, TX | |
|
Unbelievably good Continental Mex with strong traditional
roots. The brunch is the BOMB. If you like it spicy ask for some
of their chipotle salsa.
|
||
| Pappasito's Cantina | Austin, TX | |
|
Huge portions of solid, if not remarkable TexMex. The Pappas
family does a good job, even if they are not totally authentic.
|
||
| Threadgill's | Austin, TX | |
|
Awesome veggies, and pretty darned good CFS. Good atmosphere
and service...this is an Austin institution that everyone should
try at least once.
