Dennys Kailua Kona, HI
I was here May 22, 2006 Always a safe bet, especially to mainlanders!! I always vow when I travel to never eat at the same ol' places. But my town doesn't have a Denny's and I was out hungry late Sunday evening my first night S of Kailua and there it was !! Waitrons were hustling and I thought very nice considering there were a few large groups eating. Food averagely good. The best part? This Denny's had FREE wirless access !! I went back the next day with my laptop!
Verna's Iii Drive Inn Hilo, HI
Who wouldn't want to eat their quick lunch outside with the Pacific breezes blowing by? Good choices, large portions, whether you want local, Korean, or just a hamburger. Eat on the tables outside or take with you over to the nearby Liliuokalani Gardens. So many, the next time I go back I will have to try something different.
Kilauea Lodge & Restaurant Volcano, HI
Wow!! We stayed at a Bed & Breakfast down the road here and wanted a nice place to eat a "real" meal. We ate here twice! The decor is rustic, but the dinner service was elegant and excellent!! OK, enough exclamation points... Between us we had the venison, duck, prime rib, and lamb; all tender, not oversauced or too seasoned. The chef's German accents gave us a small side of red cabbage each time and the mashed potatoes included the bacon and sour cream. The fried zucchini sticks were in an excellent batter fried just right. The wine list was extensive and the servers were helpful with everything we needed. Desserts... mmmmmmmmmm!!! We were sorry the German chocolate cake wasn't available, but there was more than enough to compensate. Next time, wwe decided we will stay at the Lodge while exploring the Volcnoes National Park. http://www.kilauealodge.com/

Atwood Café Chicago, IL
A sister and I found this lucious palce downtown Chicago after wandering from the Art Institute. It is very convienient to the theatre district and lakefront. Located inside the Hotel Burnham, the outside seating looked inviting, but the weather was a bit too stormy.
We enjoyed delicious, well-prepared entrees. My sister ordered the prix fixe menu which was one price for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The price was almost equal to my appeizer and entree, so well worth it if you want that much food!! (The appetizers was such that I could not resist!!) an adequate wine list for our choice with a full bar available. Fresh vegetables and fruits, beautiful decor and most attentive servers. We were very happy with our choice.
Mori Japanese Steak House Tallahassee, FL
I have been here before, and it is not on my most memorable experience list. I went this last week with a visiting friend and was more prepared for my evening. This was on a Thursday night about 7 pm and the Hibachi side of the restaurant was less than half filled. The other side of the restaurant was empty. One day I will sit over there and see what the menu has to offer.
We were seated as the first guests around the grill and given average service while we seemed to be waiting for tthe other chairs to be filled. This was no problem as we were not in a hurry. The menu is very basic, and my friend orderd the seafood combo plate, shrimp and scallops, and I ordered steak and chicken. Being on the Atkins Diet, I ordered steamed rice, less tempting, and also asked for no salt. I find the food tastes so much better if it is not drowned in sodium!!
This time there was no show with the cooking. I was a bit disappointed as my friend was when he spoke his few halting Japanese phrases and discovered that no one understood them. We found out that most of the staff was Korean!! The food was good, the problem with this sort of reataurant is that as each food is cooked, it is put on your plate, so if you eat fast, there is no integration. The other problem with this sort of restaurant is that your fellow diners are right there in your face, so to speak with their cell phones and high-pitched giggles.
I would come back again, but again Iwuld have to come with someone else who REALLY wanted to come here.
1 Fresh Stirfry Tallahassee, FL
Dang that's Fresh!! No Valet Parking!! Good enough to slap a Bear for!! These are a few of the sayings posted around to read while waiting the few minutes for your custom made stirfy entree or salad to be prepared. Order than sit down, drive thru, or call ahead, whichever you prefer.
For a stirfy, choose the large or small bowl, pasta or rice, an assortment of vegetables, meat: beef, chicken, or shrimp... maybe tofu? Homemade sauce from sweet to hot and spicy, and then an extra to go on top. This could be cashews, cheese scallions, or anyone from the list. Eat here everyday and never eat the same thing twice!!
Recent additions to the menu, Bill Poole keeps adding and adjusting, include a trio of grilled entrees, salmon, tuna or steak with four veggies on the side with a sauce and an extra.
I have tried the basil chicken wrap which was good, but have not tried anything else on the menu, though the salads and other sandwiches sound yummy. I have to tell you since I have been on the Atkins, the desserts have really tempted me, but I have not succombed... yet!! ;) HOWEVER... every meal comes with a giant, doub;e-dipped malted milk ball, to which I have... :(
1 does catering, has Pepsi products, and also an assortment of bottled beer. Watch for the second location coming soon, I am!!!
Starbucks Coffee Tallahassee, FL
Yes, it is a bit more expensive the the corner Qwik-Mart or Circle K, but it is worth the cost!! The quality standards each pot has to meet offers the customer a good, fresh, tasty cup each and every time. I like mine a bit strong with a bit of half and half... actually traditional with a shot of espresso, or a red-eye in Starbucks-eze. There are so many mixtures of cold, hot, flavors, milks that the combinations are endless!!
Specially made for the stores are a variety of pastry and cakes that can supplement your coffeebreak if desired as well as some low-fat selections. Starbucks also has various non-caffeine drink selections, candies and the equipment to brew their coffee at home. Sure, you can find Starbucks coffee at the local grocery store, but not as fresh and not ground by a trained expert to match the grind to your own individual coffee maker!!
The staff here are fantastic!! Visit often enough and they will have your name and drink on the run with a smile and expertise they still amazes me.
Georgios Tallahassee, FL
The menu is a bit pricy, but we found the entrees we had this week to e worth the cost. The selections were too many to choose easily from, but offered more to try on another day. We will definitely go back again!! The wine selectons were very good, though our waitress was unsure of the answer to a question posed to her. Mr. Georgio was available... he greeted us as we came in as if we were long lost cousins and asked us if our dining experience was good.. yes it was!!
M.a.d. About Food Tallahassee, FL
This is a great place to grab a great salad and/or sandwich when you are on this side of town. Call ahead or fax (561-3667) for the quickest service. They have a small area inside the Eastwood Pharmacy with limited seating and a few overflow tables for dining al fresco. Melissa And Donna prepare and serve freshly made salads... we tried their Signature Spinach and Asian Chicken once and another time the Roasted Partabello Sandwich. Mmmmm!! Grab a brownie, cookie, or slice of whatever they have in the baskets for a dessert or a snack later.
Having an event? They also cater!!
Open for lunch Monday-Friday 11 am until 2 pm
La Poire Pastries & Cafe Tallahassee, FL
A great place to stop for a coffee and pastry. Coffee and espresso specialties made by the "coffee guy" while the baked goodies are made fresh daily and change, or made ahead for your special even. Catering available, too.
Come by on the week-end for quiche and a few other tempting, freshly-baked specials. The French toast is heavenly. Next time I will try an omelette they sound heavenly, "caramelized onions, sauteed baby portabello mushrooms, with fresh spinach, cheddar, and Montery jack cheeses... sounds scrumtious!!
Open Tuesday- Friday 7 am-6pm, Saturday 8 am-6 and Sunday brunch served 8-2.
La Hacienda Ii Tallahassee, FL
A newer family-run authentic Mexican restaurant in the Tallahassee area. Besides the regular expected entrees, there are a lot of interesting "specials of the house" that will bear trying in the future. We went with the chicken in mole sauce and a plate of chile rellenos poblano style. Mmmmmm... full bar, and an outside area to use when the weather is nice!! The night we were there, they had a Mariachi band strolling and asking for requests. Next time I will be better prepared.
La Hacienda II is open seven days a week 11 am until 10 pm.
Curry and Wine Tallahassee, FL
I am hoping the third time is the charm for this restaurant who has just moved to its third location. The food is very good, and the "heat" can be adjusted for those of us who like it a lot milder than others. The curry is very good as well as the lamb and chicken with vegetables. Vegetarian entrees also!!
Open for lunch and dinner with a full service bar.
Jenny's Lunchbox Tallahassee, FL
This is a great spot to have a casual breakfast or lunch. Open 7-2 daily check out the daily specials!! When the weather is nice, outdoor seating available and if you are inside, cast your eyes on the lunchbox collection mounted on the wall... sure to bring back memories of childhood. Great omelettes!! Call ahead to have your order ready to go!!
Old Mexico Grill & Cantina Tallahassee, FL
The atmosphere is a bit lacking, but the food was good. Lots of room for large parties and the prices are reasonable. Be sure to check for the drink specials!! This is not a chain, but family run with really authentic recipes!! We went for dinner, and plan to get in for lunch when they have some really great low-priced luncheon specials.
Bonefish Grill Tallahassee, FL
With a fairly limited menu, Bonefish Grills successfully offers a variety of flavors with its fish, chicken and grilled entrees. A member of the Outback family of restaurants, the steaks are high quality and the fish and seafood is fresh. I have tried a few different items and am always ready to go again. It is hard for me not to order the Pistachio Parmesean Crusted Rainbow Trout everytime, but I keep trying something new. Ask for the nightly specials... I last tried a grilled Mahi-mahi dusted with macadamia nuts. The salads are limited, but tasty and different than the usual hum drum house salads with the added hearts of palm and pine nuts. A full bar and a quite adequate wine list complement your meal. Save room for the creme brulee or another of the interesting sounding deserts.
The Bonefish Grill is open nightly from 4-11 and Sunday open for lunch at 11 am.
Cypress Tallahassee, FL
Fine dining right downtown Tallahassee. Cozy dining area in a romantic atmosphere. The menu offers an electic offering of beef, pork, lamb, poultry, fish, and seafood each with its own accompanying side complementing the entree. I had a hard time deciding between and "settled" for the broiled lamb chops with a roasted squash/eggplant medley with a goat cheese stuffed artichoke heart. I plan on trying to decide on an different entree really soon!! Reservations are accepted and suggested especially Friday and Saturday nights which fill up fast. Cypress is open 5:30- 10 pm Tuesday through Saturday. A recent addition is lunch Tuesday- Friday 11-2... another thing I plan on trying soon.
