| Makotos | Melbourne, FL | |
|
If you like authentic and well prepared Japanese cuisine, then Makotos
is your restaurant. I have been a customer of this establishment for
nearly 20 years, and I have never been disappointed by their service
nor quality of food. Dining takes place around a large table in which
a grill is set in the middle. Customers sit around the table (usually
room for eight or nine people) as a Japanese Chef prepares individually
ordered entrees. The food preparation and cooking is a show in and of
itself.
As the food is cooking before your very eyes, your mouth begins to water
as the aroma penetrates your senses. As each food item is finished cooking,
the chef scoops ample portions on your plate. There is always more than
enough, and most folks usually leave with a doggie bag of left-overs
that is shaped into an "aluminum foil-animal" such as a
bunny or a swan.
If you are looking for a great place to dine where you will be entertained
as well as eat delicious Japanese style food, then look no further.
Makotos will ensure that you have both an enjoyable and memorable dining
experience.

| Portabella Restaurant | Rockledge, FL | |
|
I was going to give this place a try next week, but after reading the review
dated January 2, 2007, I've reconsidered. Based on that Dine.com
Review, the owner sounds rude and overbearing. Sorry, but I won't
be eating at this place. There are too many other good places to eat in
Central Brevard without having to suffer sarcastic comments from
a surly restaurateur.

| Kloiber's Cobbler | Titusville, FL | |
|
For very good reason, I haven't been in Kloiber's for several
years. When this place first opened, it was great. The service was friendly
and efficient, and the food was delicious. The owner would walk around
and greet his customers, and seemed like a genuine down to Earth nice
kind of guy. We liked the place so much that my wife and I would eat there
four to five times per week. Then, about ten years ago, something changed.
The manager (I think she was the owner's wife), would argue with
customers over the most trivial things. For instance, like when they
requested things like one or two extra salad dressing, she'd pitch
a rip-roaring tantrum. She'd finally acquiesce but not before
asserting that there would be a charge for the extra dressing. I thought,
hey go ahead and charge me if you want, but it was free the day before yesterday.
Then, for whatever reason, the owner stopped greeting customers like
he did during the initial few years . He would often be sitting on a picnic
table, drinking a beer, on the outside of the back entrance. He would
barely nod as customers walked inside. Since this happened on numerous
occasions, we thought maybe he just didn't like us for whatever
reason; however, friends of mine had received the same cold shoulder
treatment. Then, a few years ago something happened that was the straw
that broke the camel's back. It was 730pm and I was heading home
from work. I thought I would stop in Kloiber's and get a Chef Salad
to go. The food handler on duty was male who had been working there for
a few years. The guy had long hair that went half way down his back. Well,
he seemed none to happy when I placed my order to go. He said, "we
close at 8pm, you know." I said, but it's only 7:35pm."
He then said, "I'll have to charge you for the two extra salad
dressings which will be a dollar extra." I told him that was fine.
It was obvious this guy didn't feel like working, and was doing
his best to dissuade me from ordering. When I did not relent, he then
got the lettuce canister out of the fridge and took off the lid. Using
his long guitar-strumming fingers, he started stroking the back of
his long hair. That did it for me. I walked out without saying a word.
The food guy got what he wanted, and Kloiber's lost a regular good
paying customer. That night was my last visit to Kloiber's. I could
tolerate the cold shoulder and the resentment over the extra salad
dressing, but I will not put up with an unsanitary food handler. Hopefully,
that guy is now gone, and Kloiber's is back on the customer oriented
service track. I realize a lot of people really like the place and that's
fine. My last several experiences there were not good ones. Like I said
those experiences were from a few years ago. I might give them another
try in the next few weeks just to see if anything has changed. Who knows,
maybe I'll be giving them more stars on the next review.

| Biltmore Depot Restaurant | Asheville, NC | |

I go to the Asheville area every couple of years. After reading the last
review on this restaurant, you can bet that I will stay away from this
"unfriendly" place.

| Slice of Chicago | Lexington, KY | |
|
My church group of about 30 parishioners is going to be in Lexington
next week and were planning on eating at Slice of Chicago. However,
after reading the latest three reviews on this place, I think
we will look else where to eat. Thanks for saving us the trouble
of a bad dining experience.

| El Leoncito Mexican Restaurant | Titusville, FL | |
|
I had the Sizzling Fajitas for the main entree, and they were delicious.
The Black Bean Soup made an excellent appetizer. For desert,
the cheese cake topped everything off real nice. As always, Paulette
did a fantastic job serving the food. Overall, I have no complaints,
and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting authentic
Mexican-Cuban cuisine.

| Cracker Barrel | Titusville, FL | |
|
This Cracker Barrel opened about 15 years ago. I remember it being
a fairly decent place to eat for the first couple of years. Then,
something happened and things got really bad. Service became
sloppy and food quality slumped to that which is typical of interstate
eateries. About five years ago, I got so tired of the poor service
and quality that I stopped going in there. Tonight, I decided
to give them another try, and I'm happy to say that things
have improved. First off, I think they have a new manager who appeared
to be on top of things. My waitress, Christine, was very energetic
and attentive without being intrusive. Because of her, I gave
this place an extra star for a four star rating. I ordered the turkey
dinner and it wasn't half bad except the dressing had the
consistency of paper-mache, and pretty much tasted that way,
too. The mashed sweet potatoes were delicious. Overall, I have
to say that the place has improved since my last visit over five
years ago. I hope it keeps on improving. Titusville sure needs
more good quality restaurants.

| Kelsey's Pizzeria | Titusville, FL | |
|
The other day I phoned in a carry-out order for a Combo Ginder and
a Greek Salad. When ordering by phone, they want your first name,
last name, and telephone number. I thought the girl was going
to ask me for my height, weight, and social security number. I
brought home the food and was very disappointed. The greek salad
was 90 percent lettuce that was mostly brown. The grinder had
fallen apart and most of the toppings (i.e., tomatoes, olives,
etc.) were laying loose in the bag. It was a real mess. Half the
grinder remained intact and was okay, but nothing to brag about.
I think this place is over rated. From now on, when I want a sub or
sandwich, I'll go to Pumpernickel's or Subway. When
I want Italian, I'll go to Valentino's.

| Ihop | Titusville, FL | |
|
I come here for an early breakfast every now and then since they
are open 24/7. They are down the street from Super Walmart's,
so I can kill two birds with one stone. Anyway, the food at this
IHOP is okay, but nothing to brag about. You do get ample portions
so I guess you get plenty of bang for your buck. The service has
always been friendly. In my estimation, they are a notch above
Denny's.

| Coffee Shoppe | Titusville, FL | |
|
I ate lunch here a couple of months ago. I had a cheeseburger and
French fries. The hamburger was brolied and not grilled which
is okay if you like it that way. The french fries tasted like they
were baked after being frozen. I ordered a coke and received a
12oz can of Coca-Cola and a glass with some ice. The server was
very friendly ans so was the manager. While it has been years since
I've eaten breakfast here, I remember that their breakfast
meals were delicious and not very expensive.

| Paul's Smokehouse | Titusville, FL | |
|
I remember this place from back in the 1970s when it was a two room
brick shack. Now, it's a nice large restaurant on the Indian
River. The bar is upstairs, and there is plenty of seating on a
screened porch. The place has a very nice atmosphere with great
views of the Cape and Shuttle launches. Unfortunately, I think
the food has lost some of the original quality over the years.
I usually order their smoked pork rib plate. More times than not,
the ribs are tougn as leather and sometimes taste that way, too.
We still come here a couple of times a year just for the view if nothing
else.

| Angelo's Pizza | Mims, FL | |
|
I had heard so many good things about this place that I decided
to give them a try. It was in the afternoon and they weren't
that busy. I got the impression that they didn't want the
business. Either that or they cater to specific customers or
so called regulars. I ordered their spaghetti and it was okay,
but I think I'll stick with Valentino's when I want Italian.

| Ping On Restaurant | Titusville, FL | |
|
This Chinese Restaurant is now called Asian House. A waitress
there told me that it is now managed by the original owners of Ping-On.
I eat here whenever I get hungry for Chinese food and have never
been disappointed. I especially like their spicy seafood dishes.
They also have sushi.

| Joe's Crab Shack | Sanford, FL | |
|
I ate lunch here after a recent trip to Seminole Towne Square.
I had eaten here once before a couple of years back, and as I recall
the food was pretty decent. This time around, things got off to
a bumpy start. I had to wait too long in their entrance area just
to be seated, and they weren't even crowded. The hostess
walked by me twice ignoring me both times. I was preparing to high
tail it out of there when the manager walked in from outside, and
told the hostess to seat me. He actually had to tell her twice.
Once seated, everything drastically improved. Becca was my
server and she did a great job. I ordered their Coconut Shrimp
as the main entree and the Lobster Bisque as an appetizer. Both
were delicious. In fact, the Lobster Bisque was the best seafood
type chowder I've had in a long while. Over all, I had a very
enjoyable lunch. Even though things got off to a rocky start,
the service and quality of food more than made up for it. Consequently,
I give this place a four star rating.

| Valentino's New York Style Italian Restaurant | Titusville, FL | |
|
Valentino's is by far the best Italian restaurant in Titusville
if not the Central Florida area. I eat here several times a month,
and have never been disappointed. While their pizza puts Pizza
Hut and Dominos to shame, what I especially like is their spaghetti
with meat sauce and Italian Sausage. Valentino's is a family
owned business that's been in Titusville for over 20 years.
Currently they have locations on Garden Street near Publix and
at the Searstowne Mall. I highly recommend this place for anyone
wanting authentic New York Style Italian cuisine.

| Dee's Dairy Bar & Drive In | New Richmond, OH | |
|
Seems like this little dairy bar has been here since the dawn of
time. I remember stopping here back in the 60s & 70s while
driving on Route 52 to and from Cincinnati. It was always a real
handy-dandy little place to get a cold drink or something to eat
such as a hamburger and fries. Of course, I think they were best
known for their delicious malts, milk shakes, and other ice cream
dishes.

| Cactus Bob's | Sanford, FL | |
|
Several years ago, I worked two doors down from this place and
would eat lunch here just about every day. It is located on the
edge of a little shopping plaza on SR1792 in Sanford. The service
was friendly with real cute watresses who always wore short shorts.
The food was also very good, especially their Buffalo Chicken
Sandwich. The place was always crowded for lunch so that speaks
for itself.

| Steve's Diner | Titusville, FL | |
|
Steve's Diner is an okay place to get a fairly decent meal
at a reasonable price. Nothing really to write home about. In
my opinion, their fried chicken dinner (you get four pieces)
is the best thing on their menu. I tried their spaghetti, but think
I will stick to Valentino's when I have a hunger for pasta
dishes. Some things at Steve's could stand for change. For
instance, last time while I was waiting for a carry-out order,
I watched through the window in the swinging double doors as the
cook stuck his finger in someone's food and then stuck it
in his mouth. I think he sampling someone's mashed potato
gravy (hope it wasn't mine). Anyway, I thought his action
was unsanitary to say the least. Another issue I had with Steve's
is that a teenage cashier was carrying on a personal telephone
conversation while I waited patiently to pay my dining check.
She just let me stand there and wait for about five minutes while
she carried on and giggled with whoever was on the other end. Finally,
an older waitress came up to her and motioned for her to get a move
on. Other than those two things and the fact that their bathrooms
needing some cleaning and enlarging, I guess this place is okay
every now and then.

| Crab Shuttle | Titusville, FL | |
|
I have been here twice since the start of the 2005 year. Both times
were pretty bad. The first time I ordered a fried fish dinner.
The second time, fried oysters. Both times, the food did not taste
fresh which is not what I'd expect from a Florida seafood
restaurant. I waited about four months before going in there
a second time, hoping they had improved. I was disappointed again.
Their prices are also a little on the high side. Hopefully, they
will improve with time. Either that or go out of business. Sorry,
but I can not recommend this restaurant at this time.

| Treehouse Cafe | Scottsmoor, FL | |
|
This little restaurant was located on USHWY 1 in North Titusville
a little south of Mims. In my experience, this place was one of
only a few good restaurants in Titusville where you could get
a delicious home cooked meal at a reasonable price. For me, the
service was always efficient and friendly. Yes, as stated in
the review above, the owner would rather patrons take their small
children somewhere else to eat only because the little munchkins
were often allowed by their parents to run wild in the restaurant,
and would invariably knock over and break antiques and whatnots
on display. I thought the "take your kids to MacDonald's"
sign was humorous, but I totally agreed with the owners'
philospophy in regard to unruly kids running amuck. Unfortunately,
this nice and quaint little restaurant closed up shop several
years ago. I miss them greatly, and wish they would consider reopening.
I'd be there first in line. Yes, I would gladly drop the damn
kids off at MacDonalds.
