I cannot add much more than the other folks who have reviewed this place
except to say that things have changed a little bit in the fifteen years
that I have been coming here . . . in addition to Pabst on tap, they have
been serving Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on tap for at least five years now.
I like Pabst on tap and when I want one, this is where I go but I love Sierra
Nevada and it goes great with a "Special" and a pickled egg,
too. One more thing . . . I don't think anyone mentioned the pool
room. They have a pool room in the back that is big and roomy but also very
old fashioned. It's like taking a time machine back to the early
twentieth century.

| Mi Lupita | Long Beach, CA | |
|
Mi Lupita is a small family owned Mexican restaurant within a five minute
walk from my house and the food and atmosphere are wonderful. In addition
to the main dining room (that has murals painted on either side) there
is a banquet room in the back. The food is very traditional and quite
tasty. In the winter I go there every few days for their albondagas soup.
Not only does it taste great but I am convinced it cures the common cold.
Their burritos are delicious and immense. The same folks have been
working there for most of the fifteen years that I have been going there. One
drawback according to some folks might be that they do not serve hard
alcohol so there are no margaritas to be had but the do serve beer and
wine and my friends that drink 'em like their "mockaritas"
that are made with a tequila wine. I ain't fancy but it is very comforting.

| Thai Nakorn | Buena Park, CA | |
|
This was the first Thai restaurant I ever ate at way back in 1983. Since
then I have eaten at many and this place still ranks better than the rest.
It is always packed and usually with people from Thailand. 'Nuff
said.

| Mama Cozza's | Anaheim, CA | |
|
This place makes the best pizza in the world! My favorite is just pepperoni
but then I get a big tureen of minced garlic sautéd on the side and slather
it on top with crushed red pepper and Parmesan cheese. They put the toppings
under the cheese which I have always found unusual but it makes the cheese
golden brown and delicious. All of their food is great though. I have
never had anything there that was not extremely tasty. Their minestrone
soup is some of the best I have ever had and is served in a bowl big enough
to be a meal in itself. At one point it seemed like the entire Cozza family
worked there and it is still a very family oriented place. One of the
daughters/sisters makes fresh cheesecake that is to die for. One of
the nicest touches is, after your meal you are served complimentary
anisette with oranges. Mama Cozza's has been in tradition with
me, my family, and friends for over thirty years now and I hope the following
generations of Cozza's continue to run the restaurant for years
and years to come.

| Chubby's Restaurant | Moscow Mills, MO | |
|
This place was a lot of fun. I was traveling en masse with a brass band
traveling from St. Louis airport to Keokuk, Iowa and when we asked the
shuttle driver for a suggestion for a place to stop for dinner. He just
smiled and said he knew exactly where to take us; and he wasn't wrong.
The staff is very friendly, they didn't mind fourteen rowdy middle
aged musicians showing up at all and the food and atmosphere were great.
A totally warm Missouri welcome, I tell you what. The night I was there
(a Friday) they had a dinner buffet special that featured among the
standard dinner fare like fried chicken and mashed potatoes, frogs
legs, and hushpuppies. They indeed threw piping hot yeast rolls at
us, with major league speed and precision I might add, which we thought
was totally fine. I highly recommend this place. It ain't fancy
but it was really good and like I said, a whole heckuvalotta fun!
