Altdorf Biergarten Fredericksburg, TX
The Altdorf Biergarten is one of the three best German restaurants in Fredericksburg. The patio is especially nice in season, and for beer first and German food second, this is my choice...and atmosphere. Probably the best value for the dollar also.
Friedhelms Bavarian Restaurant Fredericksburg, TX
I too found my steak to be superior to Friedhelm´s German food...not that the latter is not "good"...just not the best in Fredericksburg. We enjoyed our meal, and the waitstaff was both fast and friendly. A pleasant dining experience all in all. My steak was cooked to perfection, and very tender. Recommended if you looking for other entrees than just German cuisine.
Der Lindenbaum Restaurant Fredericksburg, TX
Sometimes "simple" is the best! Not fancy-schmancy, but.... I agree that the German food is the best at the Der Lindenbaum. It was a busy place when we ate on two different Saturday afternoons ...our sausage was the best I´ve ever eaten...good potatoes also. Who needs Johnsonville Brats?!!!! Very cordial atmosphere...good service, with a bubbling but professional waitress! If the "locals" (especially the cops!) choose a restaurant, you know it's one of the best in town! A drive through the surrounding, beautiful Texas Hill Country from San Antonio just added to the enjoyment.
Blanco Bowling Club Blanco, TX
Grab a sack of burgers and fries from Blanco Bowling, and head for the picturesque Blanco State Park on the beautiful Guadalupe River through Blanco. Fishin´and food! What better way to spend an afternoon away from busy Austin or San Antonio! Blanco Bowl´s food is just "down-home" good...and best yet...inexpensive!
Big Fisherman Rockport, TX
Now what would you expect from the Big Fisherman on the Texas Coast but fresh fish? And it was! We enjoyed both shrimp, and (I think) Redfish, both very tasty. The biggest surprise though was the Chicken Fried Steak the other party ordered...I sampled a piece and it was as she said, one of the best either of us had tasted. Platter-sized too! Not just seafood on this menu. Not a 4-star atmosphere, but the food is, and makes the stop worthwhile. A very good value!
Alvin Ord's Sandwich Shop San Marcos, TX
A favorite with SWTSU students...and everyone else who knows about this little place. The best, fresh ingredients! Try a monster "Club Sandwich, " with drink, and chips a meal in itself! Ask anyone near the campus for directions...they´ll know!
Golden Coral Stratford, TX
Well, maybe in Stratford, Texas this Golden Corral´s food seems "excellent, " but not to this city boy. It was..."typical" for Golden Corrals...good but not great...on par with others like Sirloin Stockade (K-Bob´s are the best of the genre.) Relatively good choice of foods though. If you´re passing through little Stratford, and you want a meal, this is probably the best of very few choices. The best burgers, and chicken sticks are at the Dairy Queen!
Granzin Bar-B-Q New Braunfels, TX
Some of the best BBQ and side dishes I´ve ever found anywhere. The best sauce of any! I´ve tried all of their meat offerings, sausage, beef, and chicken... all cooked to perfection! These folks are just "gifted!" The cole slaw tasted like my Grandma´s recipe, and she was born in Germany! Another "Yummy!" 5 stars!
Clear Springs Restaurant New Braunfels, TX
A "Texas" dining experience! Not fancy, just damn good service and food...and something different in atmosphere for the kids so they don´t get bored. Lot´s of fried stuff...Texas again, but a nice choice of offerings all in all. Our seafood (the two adults)was "generic" but good...nice variety of sides also. The kids burgers looked and (they said) tasted great. The onion rings I stole from their plates were among the best I´ve ever encountered. Nice, fun, casual place when visiting New Braunfels.
Gristmill Restaurant New Braunfels, TX
This review is simple. The Gristmill is the finest dining in New Braunfels (at least that I´ve found in years of passing through). Excellent ambiance by the river...excellent food...and excellent service. Especially nice for romantic dates, or special occasions such as anniversaries. You won´t leave disappointed. The "environment" around the restaurant is wonderful also.
Perkins Family Restaurant Flagstaff, AZ
This is the only Perkins restaurant I´ve visited in their wide-spread chain that I would give 4 stars to, and that is because of their superior service here. I´ve encountered long waits at others, perhaps because they were in small towns for the most part, where help was hard to get. Flagstaff has lots of college kids to draw upon. Like all Perkins, they offer a very nice atmosphere, and varied menu. Their chicken fried steak is my favorite. Breakfast is the best meal of the day however, and they have a mini-bakery of offerings in cookies, pastries, pies, and donuts. If you need a "family" restaurant in Flagstaff, you could do worse.
Zentner's Steak House San Angelo, TX
Zentner's has been one of, if not the best restaurant in San Angelo since I lived there in the 60's! On several return visits, it remains consistent. Nice family atmosphere, excellent steaks and other entrees, and the price is right. An unbeatable combination.
Zentner's Daughter Steak House San Angelo, TX
If the resturant says Zentner's in San Angelo...you need look no further! Their restaurants are busy...so the service is a little slow at times as a result...but they are busy because they are so good! Steaks, chicken fried, ground sirloin are tops.
Gutierrez Mexican Restaurant Salina, KS
Perhaps the original "Mexican" restaurant in Salina. I'm a New Mexican, so "live on" "Mexican-style" food...and Gutierrez Restaurant is the best I've found when visiting my home town. Nice atmosphere, and very friendly waitstaff. The tacos, and beef enchiladas are my favorites.
Jim's Country Style Chicken Salina, KS
Jim's serves some of the best chicken I've ever eaten. "The Colonel" would have stopped here! All foods seem to be freshly prepared, and the prices are very reasonable.
Red Coach Inn Salina, KS
The Red Coach Inn's restaurant has been serving the area for many years now, and remains one of the better places to eat in the Salina area. Nice atmosphere, and the service has always been both relatively fast, and friendly. Just west of the W.Crawford & I-135 bypass.
Cattleman's Cafe Sublette, KS
I was just passing through Sublette and saw the Cattleman's Cafe, so gave it a try...wasn't disappointed with my simple big cheesburger and fries! The meals being served to nearby tables "looked" good also. Whether it is related to the Cattleman's II Cafe in Liberal or not I don't know, but that is Liberal's best food at reasonable prices.
Hungry Farmer Minneapolis, KS
The Hungry Farmer has a rather captive clientel in this small farming town (except for the Pizza Hut), so expect it to be a decent enough place for the locals, but city folks may be disappointed. Lots of fried foods. My burger and fries (dripping still with grease) were ok at best. Keep driving to Salina!
Mr B's Family Restaurant McPherson, KS
Mr.B's has been around for years on the major east/west street (&U.S.Hwy) through McPherson. A favorite with the locals especially for their large servings, at very reasonable prices. Good soup, burgers, and the chicken fried steak was one of the best I've eaten in Kansas (it's probably the "state food" of Kansas LOL). If you don't need fancy...stop here! If you need a little more ambiance...try Perkins or Applebees at the east end of Kansas Ave, near I-135.
Cattleman's II Cafe Liberal, KS
As a regular visitor to Liberal, I've found the Cattleman's II to be the best "family" type restaurant in town. Perhaps there are steak houses that are better...I don't know. Very good food and friendly service! Recommend the ground sirloin w/onions and brown gravy, the chicken fried steak, or just a "big" burger. At the east end of Liberal, on U.S.54. P.S. For breakfast, try the Pancake House...just a way's west of the Cattlemans.
