Morton's of Chicago Washington, District of Columbia
I've eaten in a couple of Morton's and they do a nice job...but to be honest, I would go to the Capitol Grille for steak in DC. At least if you are looking for the dark wood, big piece of beef, yummy wine, great service kind of place.
Thaiphoon Washington, District of Columbia
I was suprised at how little Thai food there seems to be in DC, but Thaiphoon was great (despite the goofy name). Some good innovations sandwiched around the classics. Great location and good service.
Mondo Burrito Seattle, WA
the portions are huge...the food's not bad...you're downtown. It's probably not the first place I would go in this neighborhood, but if you're craving Mexican, you could do a lot worse.
Rusty Scupper Baltimore, MD
The tourists are here in droves, but it has a great view and really excellent seafood dishes. You are paying for the location, but as long as you can embrace that, you'll have a great time. The blue crab was excellent.
Haleiwa Joes Seafood Grill Haleiwa, HI
I have nothing but fine memories of drinking rum and tonic and watching the sunset at Haleiwa Joe's. The food is good (not great), but honestly, who gives a &%!@? You're in Haleiwa on the north shore - have a beautiful time.
Gordon Biersch Brewery Rstrnt Honolulu, HI
Well, maybe it's just me, but brew pup+Hawaii don't really seem to goto together. If you are a tourist who is scared of eating something that you can't get in Akron, OH, then you might do fine here. The pub food is typical american fare - what it lacks in creativity, it makes up for in size and fat. Aloha tower is pretty and all, but just try a little harder to find something interesting.
Alan Wong's Restaurant Honolulu, HI
It's probably one of the most famous restaurants in Hawaii - and not without good reason. The service is excellent, the food is skillfully executed with lovely presentation, and it's fancy for Hawaiian standards. It all feels a little soulless to me, but if you want a fancy meal-you'll have a nice time.
Tony Roma's - Famous for Ribs Honolulu, HI
I don't really have anything against Tony Roma's - I have eaten there a couple of times...once in Hawaii and once at another location. That being said, I would just encourage everyone to consider supporting locally owned restaurants who strive to create more than uncreative/big portion food. It always amazes me how many tourists will come to a place like Hawaii with some very interesting and affordable local cuisine and then go eat at a chain restaurant that they can find in their local strip mall at home.
Chart House Kaneohe, HI
We had our wedding reception here in 2002...I can't say enough great things about the experience. The setting was unbelievable - Haiku gardens is amazing. The staff was so great, the food was wonderful - I will always remember our night here. Haleiwa Joe's bought the restaurant though, so the name has changed (FYI).
Acropolis Club Portland, OR
Now, I'm not the most experienced strip club goer, but I have been here. I have also eaten a meal here which I have not done at any other strip club I have ever been to. It was really quite good and I found the strippers to be above average as well.
Mary's Club Portland, OR
Mary's is sort of a cult classic in pdx...it seems that everyone has been there at one point or another...I've never had any food there, but the strippers were not bad and the gin tasted just fine.
Sweetwater's Jam House Portland, OR
I have been here with a huge group before - it's great. We were probably the ones making too much noise. We all got our grub and our swerve on - and had a blast. This is a place I defy you to not have a good time at.
Bin 941 Tapas Parlour Vancouver, BC
We come here every time we are in Vancouver...it is simply one of the finest restaurants I have ever been to. It is tapas - sort of. The menu is not especially restricted to spanish classics and on any given night you will find a mouth watering selection of vegetarian, seafood, and meat dishes that may make you consider moving closer to Davie Street. The service has always been outstanding - friendly, sexy, not pushy. The place is tiny and no reservations, so be prepared to grab a drink elsewhere. GO GO GO already...
Art's Family Center Restaurant Seattle, WA
When this place still existed - it was a snapshot of americana that is fading quickly in the new milleneum. It has been replaced with a mammoth QFC.
Cyclops Seattle, WA
eclectic is the word for cyclops...the old location was a bit of a favorite for me...the new locale seems intentionally eclectic while the old one felt honestly that way. There's some interesting food on the menu and great people watching. I'm still not sure how I feel about this place.
Dilettante Chocolates Broadway Restaurant Seattle, WA
wonderful wonderful wonderful...intimate atmosphere + skillfully done desserts make this place a great find on Broadway. If you want to know a Seattle secret - go check out the Dilettante factory store on the corner of 23rd and Cherry by Garfield High School - same truffles at 1/2 the price.
Grady's Montlake Pub & Eatery Seattle, WA
above average pub food...beer...cocktails. Kind of a funny location if you don't live in Montlake, but it is walking distance to the UW and doesn't have the frat boys.
Hunt Club Restaurant At The Sorrento Hotel Seattle, WA
This is most definately NOT a mexican restaurant, but has one of the great bars in Seattle...Mahogany, bourbon, piano bar on the weekends. The food is meat heavy, but well done. I favor the bar as a classy place to have a cocktail.
Kokeb Ethiopian Restaurant Seattle, WA
agree w/ general sentiments already expressed...one of the oldest, but not the best ethiopian in Seattle. overpriced, hit or miss service. You'd probably do better elsewhere
Olympia Pizza & Spaghetti House Seattle, WA
it's a seattle institution...the pizza is above average and you'll definately have fun. Best pizza on Queen Anne. 45th location is a little more sterile, but still not bad.
