| Lewis & Clark's | Saint Charles, MO | |
|
My wife and I ate there the evening of Friday; March 31, 2006. We sought
the place out because of its rating here in Dine.com. We were not disappointed!
It was a lovely evening and even though border-line cool, we ate outside
on the third level. Although I had trouble reading the menu in the dim
light, it made for a nice atmosphere.
My wife had a filet and I had a ribeye; both were excellent.
The service was good, attentive but not overbearing.
We will definitely keep this on our list of places to eat when we come
back this way.

| Mazzio's | Highland, IL | |
|
Went to Mazzio's because it had been recommended to my wife. I was
not particularly impressed. The food was okay...nothing spectacular.
The salad bar was kind of limited. Decent service.
It appeared to be in an old Pizza Hut structure. The menu reminded me
of Fazoli's.
The place was rather messy. However, a large party had just left and
the crew did set about cleaning the floor up of spilled food.
I kind of doubt we'll be going back any time in the near future. But
on the other hand...I've had far worse experiences.

| 3 Mile Supper Club | Manistique, MI | |
|
Manistique was an overnight stop for my wife and I while on vacation
in May of 2003. This place was recommended to us by the desk clerk at our
motel. Even though we were given directions, we managed to go a long
distance out of our way before we found the place. But we were glad that
we persevered. While "Susie Q" in her review says that place
needs some "updating", I prefer to say that the place was
"quaint".
We were there on a Saturday evening and had to wait a while to get seated.
We enjoyed our experience - the food, atmosphere, etc. If we ever get
back this way again, we will likely eat here again.

| Navigator | Munising, MI | |
|
My wife and I stopped for lunch here in May of 2003 while on vacation.
To this day, I don't understand why the place was so busy. I am certain
it had nothing to do with having good food. My wife had a steak sandwich;
I ate a Philly cheese steak sandwich.
While the food was only so-so, the service was really slow.
And rather than sit where we could look outside, we were placed right
next to the restaurant’s garbage station - it didn’t smell but the bus
staff made plenty of noise banging plates, etc.
We weren’t the only ones that didn’t think much of the place. After eating
and paying the bill, Waiting for my wife while she used the restroom,
I witnessed an irate customer complaining rather loudly to some guy
who worked (owned?) the place.

| C W Dandy's | Mattoon, IL | |
|
This place is no longer in business.

||
| True Grits Steakhouse | Alamosa, CO | |
|
My wife and I stopped here for dinner in June of 2003. The place was recommended
by the desk clerk at our motel. We were not disappointed! It appears
to be a very popular place. The food was good and the waitstaff was friendly.
Probably the most noteworthy thing: the size of the portions - they
were huge!

| Smokey Bones | Providence, RI | |
|
My wife and I had dinner her in July of 2005 on vacation. We don't
usually eat at chain restaurants while traveling but we had never eaten
at a Smokey Bones before. We enjoyed it very much. Excellent BBQ. The
service was good also; friendly and fast.

| Pancho Villa | Ottawa, ON | |
|
It was a lovely evening this past July that my wife and I stopped here
for dinner while on vacation. We sat outside and ate Chili Relleno,
rice, black beans, a burrito and an enchalda.
My only complaint is that the tables were set a bit too close together.
We both enjoyed our food and the overall experience. Total bill, including
gratuity was $44 (CDN).

| Sen Ming Garden | Toronto, ON | |
|
My wife and I had a difficult time picking a place to eat in Toronto's
Chinatown this last July. Because it looked nice and there were already
several diners there, we selected this place. And we were happy for
it. All of our food was good: spring roll, General Tao's chicken,
egg drop soup and Szechuan beef. If we had it to do over again, we would
have ordered about half as much food as the portions were HUGE.
Other than a slight disagreement over the bill (the gratuity, actually),
it was a very pleasant time. We would not hesitate to go back should we
visit Toronto again (which I hope we do).

| Papa Del's Pizza | Champaign, IL | |
|
I know from the other reviews and from my friend that recommended this
place: their signature menu item is deep dish pizza. However, I prefer
thin crust pizza as did my colleage when we stopped here for lunch yesterday.
So, while I can't add anything about their deep dish, I can say this:
their THIN CRUST PIZZA is EXCELLENT.
When you order sausage on your pizza here, you get sausage - a lot of sausage.
Some of the pieces nearly as big as meat balls. And good tasting sausage
too!
And another thing: they served the pizza HOT, which is the ONLY WAY that
pizza should be served. (Yeah, I know that there are people that will
eat pizza even when it is cold. I don't know what to say about such
individuals; I just hope they don't reproduce.)
My only negative comment: the floor, walls and ceilings are all hard
surfaces creating an acoustically "live" environment
which leads to a very noisy atmosphere when there are more than a handful
of diners there.
My only other negative comment (I guess that means I had two such remarks
to make): There are places on the ceiling and walls that are damaged,
perhaps by roof leaks or adverse environmental conditions. These
need some attention.
Last words: GREAT PIZZA.

| India Taj | San Diego, CA | |
|
Our combination business/vacation trip in March of 1997 included
an overnight stay in San Diego. This restaurant was within walking
distance of our hotel and since my wife had never eaten Indian cuisine
before, we chose this place. We were glad we did. We both enjoyed our
food. My wife had tandoori chicken and I had the Vin Aloo. The food was
good, the service was excellent and the place was very nice.
This first experience with Indian food for my wife has allowed us to
enjoy more of it since at other places during our travels.

| Monorail Cafe | Anaheim, CA | |
|
This place is part of the Disneyland Hotel complex, a 1950s style diner,
both in terms of menu and decor. A fun place to grab a lunch of burgers,
fries and a milkshake.
My wife and I did just that while attending a convention at the hotel
in March of 1997. I assume the place is still there; there were doing
a booming business the day we were there.

||
| Harbor Grill | Santa Monica, CA | |
|
For a good ole burger in a fun place, stop at the Harbor Grill. My wife
and I did that while visiting in the area in March of 1997. We enjoyed
the Pier and our lunch at the Harbor Grill.
If ever back in the area again, we will likely visit the pier again and
this place!

||
| Coco's Family Restaurant | Barstow, CA | |
|
This was a lunch stop for my wife and I while on a combination business/vacation
trip in March of 1997. This is a typical family restaurant: the food
was good, the waitstaff was friendly and efficient and the place was
pleasant and clean.
It occured to us that this might be part of a chain of restaurants but
I can't verify that. It certainly was good enough to be franchised,
in my opinion (not that I promote chain restuarants).

| Bonanza Mexican Restaurant | Lone Pine, CA | |
|
It was brisk March morning in 2000 that my wife and I stopped here for
a late breakfast. We ate standard breakfast fare, with a Mexican influence.
The food was good, the waitstaff was fine and the prices very reasonable.
This is definitely not a fancy place. However, we found it very nice
to be able to sit and look out at Mt. Whitney while we ate our breakfast.

| Panamint Springs Resort | Death Valley, CA | |
|
While located at the west edge of Death Valley National Park, the mailing
address for this place is actually in Ridgecrest, CA 93556. We were
told that Panamint Springs was an actual town in the past. What remains
is this resort.
The place is a combination bar, restaurant, general store and office
for the few rooms (and campsites) they have to rent.
My wife and I spent one night here on a vacation/business trip in March
of 2000. This is not a fancy place. But it is a very pleasant place. We
ate outside on the veranda. While the food was good, it was not "write
home" good. However, the atmosphere helped make the overall
experience delightful. My wife had a pasta dish, I had a steak. Both
were good.
After dinner, we went for a walk; the sky was MAGNIFICENT. It is so dark
in Death Valley at night that one can see more stars in the sky that about
any other place in the US.

| Bluegrass Steak & Seafood Hse | Eddyville, KY | |
|
We stopped overnight in Eddyville in June of 2001 while enroute to East
Tennessee. It was getting a little late when we arrived for dinner.
But the waitstaff seemed happy to see us. My wife enjoyed their "Big
Salad" as I did their baked fish.
Again, the people were very friendly. Not a fancy place but one with
a real "homey" atmosphere.

||
| La Salsa | Ontario, CA | |
|
This is a food court restaurant. My wife and I grabbed some food there
in March of 1997. They have a fast food Mexican menu specializing in
quesadilla's and self-proclaimed "gourmet" burritos.
In a few words: pretty good Mexican fast food.
|
||
| Kelly's Cajun Grill | Ontario, CA | |
|
While I don't normally review food purchased in a food court, my
wife and I stopped here for a bite in March of 1997. Kelly's Cajun
Grill is home of the (self-proclaimed) World Famous freshly grilled
Bourbon Chicken. They claim that all of their food is fresh cooked on-site
everyday from scratch.
Entrees include, Bourbon Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Blacken Chicken,
Fish, shrimp and salads. We got their blackend chicken and liked it
fine.

| Caraavan Cafe | Las Vegas, NV | |
|
It has been a while since my wife and I ate here. It was March of 1997 that
we had dinner here. This restaurant is in the Sahara Hotel and Casino,
one of the older places on the strip.
While the place is starting to look its age, we both enjoyed a steak dinner
at a very reasonable price. No, the ambience is nothing special; it
was a little noisy (aren't all casinos loud?) but the waitstaff
was efficient.
