| Lotawata Creek | Fairview Heights, IL | |

The place was very busy the night my wife and I had dinner here; from that
alone, I expected the food to be top notch. I was a bit disappointed.
The food was fine, just not up to what I expected. Please don't take
me wrong, I would not deter anyone from eating here. The portions were
certainly large.

| Bahia Cabana Beach Resort | Fort Lauderdale, FL | |
|
My wife and I had dinner one evening in June of 2002. It was a delightful
time. Nice to sit outside and look at the boats in the harbor. Several
diners came to the restaurant via water craft.
My wife had chicken Quesadilias and mozzarella sticks. I ate Bahamian
conch chowder and a Jamaican Jerk chicken sandwich. We were both happy
with our food.

| Chicago's Pizza | Cloverdale, IN | |
|
Although I live nearly a hundred miles from Cloverdale, I have stopped
here several times over the past ten years; sometimes alone, and sometimes
with my wife. Their salad bar is nothing to rave about. But the pizza
is pretty good. And the staff is friendly and efficient.

| Icebox Cafe & Pub | International Falls, MN | |
|
I don't know if this place is still in business or not. My wife and
I stopped here for lunch in June of 2001. But, from our vacation diary,
I note that it was a friendly kind of place - not too large but well attended
the day we were there. The food was nothing special - which is not to say
that it was not good. It was fine, just not noteworthy.

| Elephant & Castle Restaurant | Saskatoon, SK | |
|
My opinion of the place is quite different from the last person to write
a review. My wife and I stopped here for lunch while on vacation (June
2001). While that is quite a while back, my recollection of the place
is assisted by our vacation diary.
This pub type place looks to enjoy a lively lunch crowd at this downtown
location.
We both enjoyed our food. My wife had a turkey pot pie and I order their
shepard's pie.

| Boston Pizza | Lloydminster, AB | |
|
It has been a while since I was here. It was in June of 2001 that my wife
and I stayed overnight in Lloydminster while on vacation. Our trip
diary helped out my memory of the place. I thought the pizza was very
good, the amount of food was plentiful. But I also thought the price
was perhaps a bit much for pizza.
It sure appeared to be very popular the night we were there, which, unfortunately
meant that it was a bit on the noisy side also.

| Julio's Barrio | Edmonton, AB | |
|
My wife and I had lunch here while on vacation a few years back. My wife
had their sampler and I ordered a burrito con carne. Both were good.
Perhaps the most notable thing about our meal: the portions were so
large that neither of us could finish.

| Top Notch Beefburgers | Oak Lawn, IL | |
|
I have eaten here several times in the past. The decor is nothing special.
The prices are ok. So, why should one eat here? GOOD BURGERS, that's
why.

| El Zarape | Wheaton, IL | |
|
A colleague and I ate dinner here once in April of 2004. We were in the
area and both had a taste of Mexican food that evening. We found the place
to be very nice. I believe the structure began life as a gas station but
this is not a negative comment. The decor was fine, as was the food and
service. If in the area again, I would stop here again.

| Lucky's Diner | Hillside, IL | |
|
This place used to located on Wolf Road near Butterfield. It is now located
in the same building as the bowling alley and has alot more room. It's
decor is similar to that of a 1950s style diner.
I have eaten here several times but only for breakfast. It appears to
be frequented by regulars. If I lived near there, I would likely be a
regular too. The food I have eaten there is standard restaurant breakfast
fare but it has always been good. The staff is friendly also.

| Pagliacci's Pizzeria | Mattoon, IL | |
|
Since I reviewed this last year, I believe that another star is due them.
They have expanded their menu as well as their hours.
If you like really good thin crust pizza and want to eat it in a friendly
environment, this is the place.
|
||
| Jumbo Buffet | Mattoon, IL | |
|
This place is a fairly common shopping center Chinese buffet. The food
was good (although I have had better egg drop soup), the place was clean
and the price was resonable.

| Beef House | Covington, IN | |
|
If you enjoy first rate beef, look no further. This is the place. I have
eaten here probably five times over the past 15 years. This place is
nearly a hundred miles (one way) from where I live. Most of the occasions
I have eaten here I was already in the area on other business. However,
since my wife had never experienced the place, we did, on one occasion,
make the trip just so both of us could enjoy dinner here.

| Wildfire Restaurant & Bar | Idaho Springs, CO | |
|
My wife and I had a late breakfast here in June of 2003 while on vacation.
Although it has been a while, I remember it as we write a diary of our journeys.
My recollection brings to mind the following: friendly place, good
food, service was ok. The portions were large - we split a Spanish omelet.
You can eat outside on their porch if you desire - something we like to
do when the weather permits.

| Sydney's Restaurant | Munising, MI | |
|
My wife and I had dinner here one night while vacationing in the UP. The
salad bar was good. My wife enjoyed her shrimp alfredo and my fish was
ok. While I wouldn't write home about the food here, I am writing
this review. The place seemed to be a popular place the day we were there.
|
||
| Mancino's | Houghton, MI | |
|
My wife and I spent 27 bucks (including gratuity) on pizza and nachos.
While the food was good, the atmosphere added nothing, making it overpriced
in retrospect.

| Wilmarth's Deep Water Grille | Ashland, WI | |
|
Ashland was one of our overnights hile on a sight-seeing vacation in
the summer of 2003. We asked for and got a restaurant recommendation
from the desk clerk at our motel. While we often do this, sometimes it
is just ok, but this time it was a real winner.
This place is in a turn of the century (not the most recent century!)
building. The building was neat looking, the atmosphere was pleasant,
the wait staff was friendly and the food was good. My wife had their raspberry
chicken breast and I had jambalaya. It was one of the best restaurants
on our trip. With tip, the bill was $40.

| Blue Note Cafe | Duluth, MN | |
|
My wife and I stopped here while on vacation in June of 2003. It is located
in a touristy area, near a downtown/harborside park.
We had hot drinks and a little pastry. It was good. The place has the atmosphere
of a yuppy style coffee shop but we enjoyed it anyway.

| Wall Drug | Wall, SD | |
|
Many (most?) people already know about this place, being perhaps the
most billboard-advertised place in America. Should you stop here
for the food? No. But you should stop here once in your life just to experience
the mother of all tourist traps.
But my wife and I did decide to eat some lunch during our visit in June
of 2003. Not bad, but not good - just average.

| Flying T Barbecue Supper | Rapid City, SD | |
|
I doubt very much that people who live in the area frequent this place.
It is the type of place that you go to once or twice. It is a tourist type
restaurant. You eat at tables with a bunch of people you don't know
after being hurried through a line where they fill your tray with food
that is good, but certainly not great. And then you listen to old-style
country music and corny jokes.
I don't intend for any of what I have already written to deter the
reader from going. In fact, I recommend it. No, it is not fine dining
but it sure was fun. That's why I gave it four stars.
