| Wildfire | Chicago, IL | |
|
The food was excellent, the decor was very nice. The music was great.
The service was very good. Our party of seven arrived probably five
minutes earlier than the time of our reservations last Friday evening.
The place was crowded but they honored our reservation within two minutes
of arriving.
The only reason I did not rate it excellent is the noise level - a bit too
much noise for my taste.

| Corner Bakery Cafe | Chicago, IL | |
|
A very busy coffee shop. Well, more than coffee, they offer baked goods
plus eggs and other breakfast type stuff.
Very efficient delivery system, perhaps a little impersonal but I
guess that goes with a system that can accomodate a large number of people
in a relatively short time period.
The food good. The drinks, in my opinion, are a little pricy. I am not
used to paying over three dollars for a (large) cup of hot chocolate.

| Dobbs Famous Bar-B-Que | Dothan, AL | |
|
It has been a long time since my wife and I ate here. Dothan was an end-of-the-day
stop for us while enroute to Florida. I remember walking the short distance
from our motel to this place. While not fancy, the people were very friendly
and the food was good. If we ever find our ourselves back in Dothan, we
will likely stop here again for lunch or dinner.

| Fisher Lake Inn | Three Rivers, MI | |
|
I have eaten here only once but enjoyed it. The fish was cooked just right.
The place has a pleasant atmosphere and the staff is friendly. They
have outside dining available but it was so hot the evening I was there,
we decided to eat inside. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here
again.

| Pana Family Restaurant | Pana, IL | |
|
My wife and I stopped here for lunch last Saturday. It is a typical small
town cafe. The building it is in appears to be quite old but it is in good
condition and the interior, though nothing fancy, is pleasant.
The menu was rather extensive. Our food was quite tasty. And the prices....the
prices....extremely reasaonable.

| J P's Sandwich Shop | Mattoon, IL | |
|
JP's Sandwich Shop is no longer in business. However, there is
a new place at the same location called "Mom's Food".
I have not tried it yet so I can't comment further.

| Villa Pizza | Mattoon, IL | |
|
I don't know why this restaurant wasn't already on the list
- It has been around for quite a while. Many people insist that theirs
is the best pizza in town. They feature a nice buffet also, pizza, pasta
dishes, salad, desserts, ice cream and other items (breakfast items
on Sunday morning).
I have a profound weakness for their blackberry cobler (served up hot!)
topped with ice cream.
They recently expanded and now have more, much needed, seating.

| Monical's Pizza | Mattoon, IL | |
|
This is one of 50-some restaurants in this chain - nearly all of then,
I believe, are located in Illinois. I have visited the one in Mattoon
many, many times over the past 20+ years. They are tied, in my opinion,
with one other Mattoon restaurant for the best pizza I have ever eaten.
I prefer thin crust pizza and theirs is excellent.

| Gill's Restaurant | Mattoon, IL | |
|
This place has a real nostalgic feel to it. It has been around for 55 years
now. It used to have car-hops on roller skates like many similar places
did back in the 1950s.
The place reminds me of the Steak & Shake in my home town during the
50s & 60s. While I don't eat here very regularly, I do recommend
their chili mac.

||
| Common Grounds | Mattoon, IL | |
|
The place looks and feels like a contemporary coffee house with a real
"homey" atmosphere. I like it that they now offer outside
seating for when the weather is nice. The place smells so nice! (I don't
know why I like the smell of coffee so much as I don't care for the
taste of it.) But they do have hot chocolate, good sandwiches and other
tidbits to go along with the coffee.

| Henhouse Family Restaurant | Arcola, IL | |
|
I ate at a Hen House Restaurant the first time in 1982. That experience
was bad enough that I never went back - until a couple weeks ago. My wife
and I stopped in Arcola for dinner at this Hen House. While I agreed to
stop here, I was not expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised.
The experience was fine this time. The food was good, the staff friendly
and efficient and the prices are reasonable. No, it is not "fine
dining" but rather good small town cafe "good eats".
I don't know about any other Hen Houses, but I won't be afraid
to come back to this one.

| Alongi's Italian Restaurant | Du Quoin, IL | |
|
First of all, the price I selected for average entree is indicative
of how long it has been since I have eaten here. Many years ago I lived
in Southern Illinois and this place was a nice place to go to "out
of town". I believe it has been around for 70 years or so. They must
be doing it right. I know my wife and I and the friends we used to go with
to Aongi's certainly enjoyed it.

| Weber's Family Restaurant | Rockville, IN | |
|
My wife and I had lunch here yesterday while visiting the Covered Bridge
Festival. On the plus side: The food was good, the service was friendly
and efficient, the atmosphere was that of a friendly place to be and
the prices are reasonable.
On the negative side: the stall in the men's restroom was so tiny
that, after standing up, I hit my head on the door just by looking down.

||
| Wildhorse Saloon | Nashville, TN | |
|
My opinion is similar to several of the others. It is first and foremost
a bar / nightclub. The noise level is not conducive to eating dinner.
The food my wife and I ordered was fine, but certainly nothing to write
home about.

||
| Mike's Ice Cream Fountain | Nashville, TN | |
|
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! What's not to
like? It is a nice place, serving great ice cream and located in "tourists
central" part of Nashville.
|
||
| Camino Real | Winchester, TN | |
|
My wife and I stopped here for lunch while on vacation. The food was good,
served up by friendly waitstaff and the prices were reasonable and
the place was plain but pleasant - Not unlike many Mexican restaurants
we have visited. Even though our meal there was four years ago now, the
thing that is most memorable are the soft drinks. They came in tumblers
so huge it took both hands to lift it!
|
||
| Leonard's Pit Barbecue | Memphis, TN | |
|
My wife and I had lunch there this past Sunday. And, yes, you can certainly
add our names to the long list of satisfied diners! The food was excellent
and everyone there was very friendly!

||
| El Tapatio | Sikeston, MO | |
|
We stopped for lunch here last Monday on our way through town. The number
of cars in the parking lot suggested that this was a candidate for good
food. We were not disappointed.
The food was good, delivered quick and hot by friendly staff. While
not unlike many, many Mexican restaurants, it provided us a good lunch
at a reasonable price.
|
||
| Tribeca | Paducah, KY | |
|
Unlike the two previous reviewers, I don't know anything about
the sexual preferences of anyone associated with this restaurant.
However, my wife and I had a very nice meal here last Friday evening.
The ambience is nice and the food was very good. Clearly better than
most Mexican food we have eaten.
|
||
| Depot of Vendalia | Vandalia, IL | |
|
I have eaten here only once. It was my wife and I plus our son and his family.
We enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. It was quiet the night we were
there - perhaps we were early.
