| Claim Jumper | Carlsbad, CA | |
|
This is by far my favorite restaurant. However this is not truly
a place to impress. This is a place to EAT!!! Entrees range anywhere
from around $10 to $28 for dinner, $6 to $13 for lunch. However,
quite often just the appetizer will suit your needs. My wife and
I used to go and just get appetizers at the bar and call it a meal.
One entree will last three meals. My favorites are the Whiskey
Chicken (stuffed chicken breast with whiskey sauce), the Ore
Cart (two types of ribs and BBQ chicken), and of course the Prime
Rib. All the entrees are just as delicious though. You can't
go wrong at this place. Rustic, western themed. Great for gatherings
and familys. Waits can be long at times, but well worth it. Don't
forget the root beer barrels on the way out.

| Nieman's | Carlsbad, CA | |
|
Niemans trys to bill itself as an upscale restaurant. Don't
be fooled. It is in a great location in the Villiage, in a beautiful
old house with a somewhat romantic setting. However the restaurant
menu is limited, mostly the catch of the day. It is overpriced,
and service just plain sucked. The waiter was fairly rude and
the hostess not much better. We will never go back there again.

| Souplantation | Carlsbad, CA | |
|
Basically a big salad bar. Well kept up. Even though it is under
$10, it is still expensive for salad. The soups are good, but not
too much of a selection. The soups rotate daily. The muffins are
awesome though. Excellent if all you want is a salad bar.

| Mr Peabodys Steak & Ale | Carlsbad, CA | |
|
Best steaks and burgers in the Village. Casual atmosphere, good
for first dates. They have something for everyone. Friendly
staff, good food. This is always a fun place on the weekends.

| The Cheese Steak Shop | Concord, CA | |
|
If you want hot, messy, and overall fulfilling cheese steak,
then this is the place to go. A few other sandwiches on the menu,
but don't waste your time with them. GEt the cheese steak,
you won't be sorry.

| Honey's Bistro & Bakery | Encinitas, CA | |
|
Great place for brunch. Good atmosphere, but stuffy clientle.
Food is excellent, but leaves you wanting more. Portions average
size. Haven't tried the pastries yet, but they all look delicious.
Can get crowded on weekends.

| Skipolini's | Clayton, CA | |
|
Used to be in an out of the way place in Clayton, but now that the
town has grown, it is central and easy to get to. This is by far the
best pizza in Contra Costa. Always friendly and warm. Great selection
of toppings. They sold me on pineapple on pizza back in the eighties.
This place is practically a landmark. Their longevity is a tribute
to the great pizza they proudly serve.

| Ruth's Chris Steak House | San Diego, CA | |
|
This is by far the best, mouth watering steak house in the world.
Large portions. Gets very expensive by the time you are done ordering,
but worth the price if you want to spoil yourself. The Prime Rib
and Filet Mignon are the best bets. You will be awed by the size
of the cuts.

||
| Old Town Mexican Cafe San Diego Restaurant | San Diego, CA | |
|
Food is average Mexican fare. However you do not go here for the
food. The atmosphere can not be beat. Set in a spanish villa, with
period dress for the wait staff and roaming mariachi band. It
is in the tourist area known as Old Town, however this place tends
to get populated with many regulars and locals. It is a fun place
to meet your friends.
|
||
| Old Spaghetti Factory The | San Diego, CA | |
|
Food is good, but not exciting. Portions tend towards the small
side. Busy atmospere. If you want to take the family out for some
decent italian food at acceptable prices, then this is the place
to go.

||
| Chart House | La Jolla, CA | |
|
Make reservations early. Book a window seat around sunset. This
could be the most expensive restaurant with the worst food, and
you wouldn't be disappointed if you do this. you cannot get
any closer to the beach than this. However you don't have
to gamble, because the food is excellent. Seafood and steaks
mostly. Efficient and courteous wait staff. Romantic setting.
If you want to impress your date, this is how you do it.

||
| Hofs Hut Marina | Long Beach, CA | |
|
Southern California restaurant with a german flair. Good place
to bring the family. Food is average, prices decent. Not a date
rastaurant. This is a family place. Lunch is your best bet here.
The sandwiches are the best thing on their menu. Get dessert to
go.

| 94 Aero Squadron Restaurant | San Diego, CA | |
|
Great food and accomidating staff. Close the montgomery field.
GA pilots are regulars here. Good place for a date. Formal feeling
yet fun place to go. Place livens up on weekend nights. Great atmosphere
|
||
| Manhattan Giant Pizza | San Diego, CA | |
|
Huge 30" pizzas are more a novelty than a good meal. Best
bet is to just get a slice to go. Will satisfy your hunger, but not
your taste buds.
|
||
| Blarney Stone Pub | San Diego, CA | |
|
Great Irish atmoshpere. Excellent food. Pub feel, so menu is
somewhat limited, as to be expected. Place livens up at night.
Awesome beer selection, go for the Guiness draft. Fun place to
be.
|
||
| Seau's The Restaurant | San Diego, CA | |
|
The place to go before, during, and after the game. Owned by one
of the best linebackers in the game, he doesn't disappoint.
Food is good, but nothing too special. However it is tasty and
filling. This is a sports fan place to be. Be careful, can get rowdy,
especially when the Raiders are in town.
|
||
| Islands Fine Burgers and Drinks | San Diego, CA | |
|
Interesting place. Hawaiian feels. Unusual burgers on the menu,
but all so far have been excellent. Burgers are large and filling.
Some other items on the menu, but your best bet is a burger. A fun
place to meet friends.

||
| Deluca's Little Italy Restaurant | San Diego, CA | |
|
This is the best pizza I have ever tasted. Although the food quality
has declined since I first visited in 1988, it is still awesome.
Mouth-watering pizza will make you eat way too much. Pasta and
baked dishs are just as good. At first the portions look average,
but you soon realize you can't finish what is on your plate.
Although you will try to stuff it down anyway, because the taste
is heavenly. A must try.
|
||
| Mission Chinese Restaurant | Oceanside, CA | |
|
Great Orange Chicken and Mongolian Beef. These are our favorites.
No delivery, carryout/dine in only. Friendly staff. Good prices.
Full entrees range from around $6 to $13, include fried or sticky
rice. The best Chinese food in area. Give out 10% discount coupons
with every carry out order
|
||
| Ruby's Diner | Oceanside, CA | |
|
Average food. Typical Ruby's fare. Burgers, sandwichs,
nothing too exciting. Food is good, selection is limited. Few
come for the food. The location can't be beat. Located at
the end of the Oceanside Pier, over the water. Great sunsets and
romantic location. Great views. Oceanside has renovated the
area lately, and is getting better. Golf cart shuttle for lazy
people.
