| Mama's Mexican Kitchen | Seattle, WA | |
|
I have worked in the restaurant industry. I ask that my food is tasty,
my service adequate, and that the food is priced based on its quality
and portion size. I have no problem eating at a truck stop. Nor do I mind
paying extra for higher quality food or larger portions.
Service: We were seated in the Elvis Room, but were asked to move because
of a forgotten reservation. When we placed our orders my husband mentioned
we would prefer to split the check. Service was slow. My friend asked
for salsa multiple times. Drink refills were a wait. Coffee was never
refilled. The check was not split up and added 18% gratuity for a group
of 6 (most restaurants parties of 8+), and she'd MISCALCULATED
our total, EXTRA $10 to her gratuity! She returned with a pen and paper
so we could split the check ourselves! Handwriting was tough to read
and she'd scribbled the order all over the ticket. She had the nerve
to mention she had given us the happy hour prices on our drinks (even
though she wasn't sure about the time). What!?! We got there at
5:30pm and happy hour ends at 6:30pm. Our drinks were ordered in time.
We were still there because of slow service, not order time!
Value: I paid $6 for a small weak strawberry margarita, 1 enchilada
with beans and rice was almost $10, tiny portion and looked like a kid
meal. I would have gotten 2 quality enchiladas for the same at Azteca.
Salsa is extra. The menu on their website is NOT up to date. Prices were
higher.
Food: The quality was low. My beans had chunks of burned cheese. Made
me wonder if they reused cookware without washing thoroughly because
the cheese on my enchilada was not burned at all. The beef in the enchilada
was alright, but not much flavor. Stale chips.
Location: Little parking. We noticed a disproportionate number of
creepy homeless guys. Area seemed sketchier than I remembered. While
we ate we watched three squad cars responding to an incident across
the street and a police officer pulling contraband from a man's
pockets. There was a homeless guy shouting unintelligibly in front
of the restaurant's entrance when we walked in, not a place to walk
alone.
Conclusion: I must assume that this was once a better restaurant. They
have many positive reviews and have apparently won local awards. That
said, it is currently a mismanaged establishment lacking in service
and food quality, charging a higher price than other Mexican restaurants
in the area.

| Silvercity Brewery | Silverdale, WA | |
|
I want to give an updated review for Silver City not that I've tasted
a greater number of the items on their menu. I still must say that they
are generally overpriced. However, their pizza is very tasty and is
included in their happy hour most nights. I have also grown to enjoy
their ginger ale and root beer which is made at Silver City.

| Famous Dave's | Tacoma, WA | |
|
Terrible service! They simply seemed understaffed every time I've
been here. The food was alright, but not great. I had a BBQ pork sandwich
the last time I was in which was a little tough. It looked cool inside,
but I was unimpressed otherwise. Walk over to Popeye's in the same
parking lot and get yourself Cajun spiced chicken with a large side
of red beans and rice instead. Famous Dave's is overrated.

| Olive Garden | Tacoma, WA | |
|
The food is very good, but expensive. The wait times are unbelievable.
It is best to come in at odd times of the day to avoid frustration! Olive
Garden has a never-ending pasta bowl offer that starts sometime in
September every year. I tend to visit a lot while its going on because
their prices are too high otherwise. Instead of salad with your meal,
get the pasta y fagioli soup. Its included with your meal as an alternative
to the salad.

| Happy Teriyaki #7 | Tacoma, WA | |
|
This is the best Happy Teriyaki I have been to and they are open on Sundays!
Try the teriyaki pork and always ask for an extra side of teriyaki sauce.
The sauce is tasty and you will want more!

| The Rock Wood Fired Pizza | Lacey, WA | |
|
Good food. I like to order pepperoni and fresh basil on my pizza and their
ingredients are very fresh. Although they are best known for their
pizzas, their hamburgers are also incredible.
I do have one major complaint about their restaurant. Their buffet
always has too many super-gourmet pizzas! On one particular occasion
I waited 30 minutes just for a pizza to come out that I would eat. When
a pepperoni pizza finally hit the line, it was gone within a minute or
two. It was obvious that many of us were waiting for a "normal"
pizza to come out. They like to serve a bunch of funky pizzas with gourmet
sauces and toppings in the lunch buffet. They also tend to be overpriced
and the parking can be limited because it is located next door to a movie
theater.

| The Point Tavern | Tumwater, WA | |
|
Amazingly friendly bar with very good food and drinks. The staff if
fun and professional. All of their food is good. They are best known
for their wings, but I like to order the seasoned fries off their late
night menu for a tasty snack of generous portions. It looks like any
other shady bar on the outside, but it is very welcoming inside. Go on
a Friday or Saturday night for the karaoke. It isn't for professionals,
just fun. They also have outside seating for those who wish to smoke.

| Rib Eye Restaurant - Olympia | Olympia, WA | |
|
Most people go to Rib Eye because of its hours, but it is pretty good.
Its like every other ma and pa breakfast restaurant. Its small, but
the food is pretty good.

| Shari's Restaurant | Puyallup, WA | |
|
Friendly with good breakfast food. MUCH better service than other
Sheri's I have been to. The shift leader, manager-type-guy, whatever
his position was, chatted with us and had very good customer service
skills. Try the seasoned fries.

| Red Robin Gourmet Burgers | Puyallup, WA | |
|
Not the best service. The Tacoma Red Robin is much better. This Red Robin
has a friendlier location, but the service is not up to par. Avoid Red
Robin during the fair, it is just too busy. Their prices have all gone
up and happy hour no longer exists. The burgers are good though. Clucks
and Fries are also tasty. I always ask for a side of teriyaki sauce to
dip them in.

| Billy Mc Hales's Restaurant | Bellingham, WA | |
|
Good BBQ, fun atmosphere. Desserts are very reasonable too! I really
enjoyed this restaurant.

| Mulate's | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
I went with a fairly large group, nine people, and we had called ahead
to warn them we were coming. They gave us an abbreviated menu full of
expensive meals because we were a large group. The meals on the menu
they gave us were far too large for my level of hunger at the moment. I
just wanted a small lunch. I asked the waitress if I could just order
from their normal menu instead. She seemed annoyed, but gave me the
real menu anyway. I had the gator appetizer and it was good. I was not
impressed with the staff or the lazy way they deal with large groups.
For the record, the place was just about empty at the time of day we were
there. They did not need to give us those ridiculous abbreviated menus.
I was unimpressed, but perhaps my experience would have been better
if I had gone in a smaller group.

| Antoine's Restaurant | New Orleans, LA | |
|
Overrated. Go for the history, not for the food, and not for the prices.
Its another one of those places where your meal comes with a set list
of other foods you may or may not actually want. Mine came with shrimp,
which I don't like, but paid for all the same. Its a neat old restaurant,
but I'd rather eat at Mother's.
|
||
| Mother's Restaurant | New Orleans, LA | |
|
Mother's was recommended to us by a local while we were visiting
New Orleans. Simple southern cooking, reasonable prices, and hearty
portions. I particularly enjoyed the red beans and rice.
|
||
| Cafe Du Monde | New Orleans, LA | |
|
Everyone must stop here for cheap cafe au lait and beignets. Its on the
water in the French Quarter where all the tourists end up, right across
from Jackson Square. Amazing food and the coffee is real good too!
|
||
| Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville | New Orleans, LA | |
|
Have a License to Chill while eating a BBQ pulled pork sandwich. That's
the best. Fun place to be with tire swings for bar stools.
|
||
| The Rainforest Cafe | Renton, WA | |
|
The Rainforest Cafe is a lot of fun! The food and drinks are great, but
the atmosphere is what makes this place. The lights flicker when the
"rainforest" is experiencing a "thunder storm."
Good stuff!

| Kristall's | Leavenworth, WA | |
|
Good breakfast with down home staff. Good coffee too which is oddly
quite difficult to find in Leavenworth. Their bacon was particularly
thick and juicy. I go here every time I am in Leavenworth. The prices
are low unlike money grubbing tourist traps such as Gustav's.

||
| Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar | Lacey, WA | |
|
I always enjoy Applebee's. I prefer their Teriyaki Steak Skewers
off the Weight Watchers menu. I always have them substitute the pilaf
and veggies with fries though. :) Their strawberry margaritas are
yummy too. The drinks tend not to be very strong, but they are tasty.

||
| Chinese Buffet | Lacey, WA | |
|
Not the best food I've had. I actually ran to the bathroom to spit
out my fried squid, something I usually enjoy. For a good Chinese buffet
in the area, go to Best Buffet in Tumwater on Littlerock Road across
from Costco. Its much better.
