Jow's Garden Philadelphia, PA
An unusual combination - Thai and Italian. Very nice decor, good service. They also have a food truck on Penn's campus.
Abner's of University City Philadelphia, PA
Best Philly cheesesteaks west of the Schuylkill. The atmosphere isn't great - it's a college hangout mostly - but steaks are always delicious.
City Garden Chinese Restaurant Philadelphia, PA
Better than average chinese food in a convenient location downtown. A good place to meet friends for lunch or dinner.
Philadelphia Inn Philadelphia, PA
Worth it just to sit in the back garden in the spring or summertime. Good selection and service, very nice atmosphere.
Stix Philadelphia, PA
I believe Stix was closed by its owner who opened a new Dmitri's on its location. The same thing happened to Pamploma. There are now three Dmitri's.
Keyflower Dining Room Philadelphia, PA
Keyflower is run by the Father Divine people and is inside the Divine Tracy hotel. People around here love to go there for the healthy food and low price. You have to follow some rules, though. I believe women can't wear pants and you have to greet the staff by saying "Peace."
Palladium Restaurant & Bar Philadelphia, PA
The outside area was always the spot for the "beautiful people" ate Penn to be seen. Inside is an elegant bar and restaurant with very good food - dark wood paneling, oriental rugs.
Caribou Cafe Philadelphia, PA
A gathering for Philadelphia's French community. Great food and atmosphere - warm and friendly.
Le Bus Philadelphia, PA
Started out in a bus on Penn's campus, Le Bus grew into a popular buffet style restaurant selling natural foods. Although Penn's Le Bus closed a few years ago the one in Manayunk is even larger and offers a variety of homemade breads and a full selection of interesting, healthy foods.
North Star Bar Philadelphia, PA
Great food but not for those looking for quiet - there are regular band performances here that can be pretty loud. But worth a trip if want to eat great food and listen to music.
Thai Singha House Philadelphia, PA
Elegantly decorated delicious thai restaurant near the University of Pennsylvania's campus. Food is both tasty and well presented. Desserts are especially good, although more western than thai.
Dahlak Philadelphia, PA
My favorite restaurant in the world! If you haven't tried Ethiopian food try Dahlak first!
Louie's Charcoal Pit Teaneck, NJ
This was our high school hangout and probably still is for current Teaneck High School students. Always great for burgers or more substantial meals and they made good milkshakes.
Astral Plane Philadelphia, PA
Always a favorite place to take out of town guests -great food and atmosphere is more than charming. I've never seen anything like it. More Victorian than 60s as the above reviewer notes.
Tequila's Philadelphia, PA
My friend from Mexico City says that this is the only place to have authentic Mexican food in Philadelphia and maybe in the region. Hasn't changed over the years -still always excellent.
White Dog Cafe Philadelphia, PA
Unique -a restaurant but also very socially conscious - have many speakers, classes, trips. Worth a visit. Also see the Black Cat store adjoining.
Pamplona Restaurant Philadelphia, PA
Unfortunately this restaurant closed -there is a new Dmitri's in its place which is also very good.
Zocalo Philadelphia, PA
Unusual, tasty flavor combinations, always delicious. Nice comfortable atmosphere and friendly servers.
Painted Parrot Cafe Philadelphia, PA
A great place to stop after a movie for unusual and attractive desserts. They are now serving meals as well.
Entree Express Restaurant Philadelphia, PA
They are a food delivery service -they deliver food from many restaurants. I used to really enjoy their service until they changed their policy and excluded my zip code from their service. Not sure why they did this.
