| Billy Boy Bar-B-Que | Shawnee, OK | |
|
The barbeque at billy boy's is well known across Shawnee. However,
it's the little things that make the restaurant great, from the
miniature ice cubes to the excellent fried okra. The employees
are friendly, and the atmosphere is nice. It's a perfect place
for a family dinner or a lunch date.

| Van's Pig Stand | Shawnee, OK | |
|
Van's Pig Stand, the upstairs restaurant, serves as a wonderful
place to get scrumpteous homestyle burgers and cut-potato fries.
The tables and walls are wooden, complete with the carvings of
previous customers. Van's Charcoal Room, the downstairs restaurant
is definately the best place in town to get savory steaks or ribs.
The entire meal, from the salads to the potatoes to the filet mignons,
are fresh and delicious. Van's is definately a treat.

| Abuelita's Mexican Restaurant | Shawnee, OK | |
|
The food was good and authentically mexican. The service was
good as well. The atmosphere is a little lacking, as it is in a strip
mall. Overall, however, I personally would prefer takeout.

| Delta Cafe | Shawnee, OK | |
|
The restaurant has the entrees of a typical diner, as well as typically
Southern entrees. Both are well prepared, though the side items
are somewhat lacking in comparison.

| Jay's Classic Steakhouse | Shawnee, OK | |
|
The food is good, but not exceptional. I would recommend customers
desiring steak to eat at Van's Charcoal Room in Shawnee instead.

| La Roca Mexican Restaurant | Shawnee, OK | |
|
The service wasn't fast or reliable, and I was disappointed in
the food. I'd been eating authentic mexican food, I'd forgotten
how bland americanized mexican food was by comparison. I'd recommend
Abuelita's in Shawnee instead.

| T J's Charcoaler | Shawnee, OK | |
|
With half price burgers on Tuesdays and grated cheese on their
homestyle burgers, TJs makes a great place to grab some lunch
or a quick dinner. The atmosphere is nice and quiet. The decor
revolves around Brad Pitt, the owners' nephew and a former resident
of Shawnee.

| Abner's Restaurant | Oxford, MS | |
|
This is a wonderful fast restaurant that serves chicken strips,
mainly fried or grilled with a special house sauce. The house
sauce is devine, the chicken moist. Of course, they also have
great sweet tea and scrumptious cheese cake. My only complaint
is they don't cut the chicken ligament off the grilled chicken
strips. But the food is definately delicious.

| Ajax Diner | Oxford, MS | |
|
Ajax offers various Southern entrees. While they are all good,
considering the location of the restaurant, the just aren't
exceptional. However, it is the only southern-style restaurant
in Oxford.

| Buster Roodie's Eatery | Oxford, MS | |
|
Buster Roodies moved to University instead of it's former location
on Jackson. It serves wonderfully moist fried catfish, fried
chicken strips, various sandwiches and spuds. My personal favorite
is the Pig In A Spud, which has pulled pork, cheese, and various
other ingredients on top of a huge potato, surrounded by a garden
salad. Simply incredible. The catfish is great too.

| Coop Deville | Oxford, MS | |
|
Depending on what you get, this could be a cheap or expensive meal.
The entire restaurant is delivery only, the cost of which is factored
into the prices of the food. They are know for their 20+ flavors
of buffallo wings. They also have great chicken strip sandwiches.
I, however, love their huge salads. The best delivery I've ever
eaten, though fattening...

| El Charro Mexican Restaurant | Oxford, MS | |
|
The local college students go for the monster margaritas - 64
ounces of tequila bliss at only $8.99, available in strawberry
or lime. If you're nice, they'll fill the same sized glass with
strawberry daquarri or pina colada. Their specialties are these
frozen drinks and imported mexican beer. They do not know how
to make mixed drinks, though they do offer them.
El Charro's is also known for its hot chips and fresh salsa, both free to all customers. For a few extra dollars, you can try their delicious "queso, " which is always fresh white cheese sauce. After drinking there every week for a year, I finally decided to try the food. Now it's hard to decide which to do. The food is completely divine. You can eat a complete meal at this restaurant for under $5. That's AUTHENTIC mexican food. Simply incredible. You can order individual items - tacos, tamales, etc - for about $1.50 each. Don't expect to hold too much conversations with the waitstaff, though. They are all mexicans struggling with their english. The owner, Hoolio, is completely courteous, though also not completely fluent. The people are all nice, just sometimes a little challenged at taking your orders. The food, however, makes up for it. |

| Joe's Crab Shack | Memphis, TN | |
|
The variety of seafood dishes to choose from is incredible. I
however always choose one of the platters, so that I get a variety.
I have never been disappointed with their food. The waitstaff
singing and dancing to various songs just makes it that much more
worth the trip.

Reading the above comments, I can't believe people would compare Joe's to a place like Red Lobster. While Red Lobster basically caters to the uncultured crowd who simply desire a taste of seafood one night, Joe's caters to the customers with more sophisticated palates, who desire scrumptious entrees that happen to have seafood in them. Joe's also traditionally prepares Southern-style entrees, such as gumbo and ettouffee. My cajun parents refuse to eat at Red Lobsters, calling it "fake seafood." Though I believe this to be a slight exageration, the food at Joe's far exceeds the level of appreciation of a typical Red Lobster customer. |

| Rendezvous | Memphis, TN | |
|
OVERRATED????????????? DEFINATELY NOT. The ribs, with their
unique dry-barbeque seasoning, are completely divine. The
sausage and cheese plate is a MUST for an appetizer. The atmosphere
is also incredible. The jukebox allows you to play music of your
choice - so long as it's oldies or great southern blues. The newer
r&b/hip-hop selections will cause the waitstaff to walk around
singing. Such a treat. Definately worth a wait, even on those
long weekend nights.

| Corky's Bar-B-Q | Memphis, TN | |
|
Well prepared barbeque at a great price in a unique (musical history)
atmosphere with good service? What more could you ask for...unless
you simply don't like barbeque. It's wonderful. Try the tamales
for a change...they're also very good.
