| Thai Pavilion | Dekalb, IL | |

If you find yourself in DeKalb, this a terrific
Thairestaurant--much better than ones I've found in cities
such as Minneapolis, Washington DC, etc. The curries
are incredible, the spicy crazy noodles are devine,
and there are many other delights. A few are only so-so
and, like many Thai restaurants, the service can be
spotty. If you like Thai food and you're traveling
through northern Illinois on either I90 or I88, this
is well worth a plunge off the interstate and through
the cornfields to sample.

| Everest | Chicago, IL | |
|
This was my first visit to Everest, and perhaps I was expecting
too much. I expected one of my finest dining experiences ever,
but it was far from that. My wife and I shared three appetizers.
A smoked sturgeon soup and the salmon souffle were indeed
delightful, but an interesting-sounding lobster salad was
very drab and pedestrian. The biggest disappointment was the entree.
We both love sea bass and it is supposedly one of Everest's
"signature" dishes, so we both ordered it. "Dreadful" is the
only word to describe it--"disappointing" would be too kind. One
might partially excuse it if it were the quality of the fish
itself, but besides being relatively flavorless, it was grossly
overcooked. It is very hard to dry out sea bass, but Everest
succeeded! For dessert we had cappuccino and a chocolate medley.
The chocolate plate was mediocre and the cappuccinos were
terrible. Finally, the wine prices are unseemly even for an
expensive restaurant. $15 wines for $70-90 seems a bit much.
Most people seem to like the place though...but personally,
if you're going to eat in the loop, I'd walk over to Printer's Row
or Vivere.

This is a very good restaurant. Appetizers are outstanding,
butthe entrees, generally, lag behind. I would die for their
cranberry and ginger sorbet.

| Vivere | Chicago, IL | |

I have eaten here many times. Vivere consistently
puts forward very good food. Wine list is phenomenal.
Service is consistently outstanding.

| Tuscany Restaurant | Chicago, IL | |

I have eaten at Tuscany several times but only
at Oak Brook. It is acceptable, but not
outstanding Italian food. Many must think
otherwise, because it is crowded on weekends.
Expect a wait for your table even with reservations.

Appetizers and entrees were good, though not particularly
distinctive. Avoid beverages. Wine selection,
particularly by the glass, is deplorable. Coffee
tasted like warm water with brown food coloring.
The best thing going for it is that you can walk
to the Civic Opera House from there!

I have only eaten here once, but it wasn't nearly
as good as I was expecting. Not nearly as good
as Vivere, for example. Perhaps it was an off
night, because the reviews above are consistently
very positive.

Servicable food and convenient to the opera.
Very unattractive and bland setting.

This is an outstanding restaurant. The entrees used to take
a back seat to the appetizers which are as delightful as you will
find anywhere. However, in the last couple of years the entrees
have consistently reached the same dizzying heights as the
appetizers. The dessert selection has to be seen and tried to
be believed! The wine selection, focused on California, is
outstanding. Nowhere will you find a more exquisite selection of
wines by the glass. The atmosphere is sophisticated and
romantic. It is better than Tall Grass and Montparnasse outside
the city and Gordon in the city.
