| Cathys Wok | Plano, TX | |
|
A good, if not great, alternative to most Chinese "fast-food"
type restaurants. Cathy's does at least print valuable health
information for each item on the menu. Not much new here, but Cathy's
will do in a bind. The location on Royal Lane had better food but
it no longer exists.

| Bagel Place | Amarillo, TX | |
|
Every type of bagel (and cream cheese) under the sun is available
at the Bagel Place. The real stadnouts to me are the breakfast
bagerls with eggs and sausage. Friendly staff and an almost always
busy store make for a great place to be seen in your pajamas on a
Saturday morning.

| Plaza Restaurant | Amarillo, TX | |
|
Oh do I miss this place since I left Amarillo. The food is solid
and the prices reasonable. Go for the big burrito!

| Kabuki | Amarillo, TX | |
|
The best lunch in Amarillo and by far the best Japanese restaurant.
The food is nothing less than great and considering the choices
in Amarillo, outstanding. Lunch specials are always reasonably
priced and while the food and menu do not change that much from
visit to visit, the experience is wonderful. Nice ambience for
a West Texas restaurant and considering that it is surrounded
by a terrible Red Lobster and Benningans, it is the best that I-40
has to offer.

| Abuelo's | Plano, TX | |
|
By all accounts the fare at this restaurant is basically trumped
up frozen Mexican dinners at four times the price. Bland enchiladas
with dry tortillas, cold and stale tamales covered the $15 special.
Efforts to spice up the traditional Mexican side dishes with
including flaked mashed potatoes instead of the traditional
Spanish rice fell flat as well. Considering the place is always
packed, the liquor must flow freely for the food left much to be
desired. Other notables, were sparce chips and salsa dishes
and laskluster service. For the price, you are better off with
Taco Bell.

| Romanos Macroni Grill | Plano, TX | |
|
By far the best and most inventive Itallian "chain" restaurant.
The dishes are all excellent and the bread and olive oil make a
great appetizer (as does the calimari). Personal faves are the
pork chops and the chicken parmesean. The restaurants are usually
crowded on the weekends, however seating moves quickly. The
only annoyance is the usual house "singer" that you have to awkwardly
not make eye contact with. The house wines are surprisingly good.
Would choose this over the terrible Olive Garden any day of the
week.

| Red Hot & Blue | Plano, TX | |
|
Better than average barbecue which is usually hit or miss. Try
the dry ribs for a variation on the typical. The lunch menu is reasonably
priced and the sandwhiches are sure to fill the biggest appetite.
The standout is the sausage. RHandB uses Earl Campbell's sausage
and it is by far the best tasting pork product you will ever put
into your mouth. The Nanner (banana) pudding and black berry
cobbler with ice cream are the dessert faves. Also this restaurant
has gigantic ice tea glasses which are a huge plus!

| Bennigans | Mesquite, TX | |
|
Back in the late Eighties, Bennigans used to be one of the better
restaurants around, however all of that changes when they tried
to move to more of a sports bar setting. The menu and food quality
declined rapidly as did the service. Several of the Dallas locations
have closed in the past year and there is no wonder as to why. When
you can get better food at TGI Fridays, you know your restaurant
is in trouble. Avoid this place at all costs, unless of course
you like terrible food at high prices or you really want your name
on the wall for drinking the 200 beers around the world.

| P.F. Chang's China Bistro | Dallas, TX | |
|
By far the best Chinese fare in Dallas, PF Changs offers an incredible
array of favorites. No visit would be complete without starting
out with the lettuce wraps (and possible some Won-Ton soup).
The Mongolian Beef is not to be missed and the spicy chicken with
eggplant is excellent. Brown and white rice are available. Great
atmosphere and reasonable prices make this one of our favorite
places. Get there early or eat there for lunch as the wait can sometimes
be long.
A PF Changs is opening in the Aladdin Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. |

| Happy Wok | Dallas, TX | |
|
An excellent place for Chinese in the village. Cheap, fast, and
a ton of food, makes this little hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant
(located right next door to Condoms-to-Go) a personal favorite.
Steamed or fried rice available with all entrees and huge drink
glasses are both pluses. A wide selection is available however
I usually stick with the Sesame Chicken. Delivery is prompt,
however the place usually has a football game on its giant 19 inch
TV. Friendly service make up for the lack of atmosphere.

| Szechwan Pavilion Chinese Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Particularly below average Chinese buffet. The menu never changes
and is particularly bland. Szechwan Pavilion is good for a lunch
pinch, however keep your expectations low. The fish in the front
have some disturbing tumors. You might want to go to El Arroyo
(which is right next door) instead.

| Uncle Julio's Fine Mexican Food | Dallas, TX | |
|
Uncle Julio's can lay claim to the absolute best fajitas in town.
One of the best mexican food places in town offers plentiful baskets
of chips, an unusual salsa, and an abundant menu of tasty, filling
dishes. The lunch menu items have recently been added to the main
menu, which offers plates below the $10 threshold (which is nice).
Service is hit or miss but usually pretty good. The wait can be
long on the weekends. Try the Sunday brunch at 11:30, it is truly
a great way to start the day.

Service is usually poor at the Lemon avenue location and parking
is terrible. The wait can be long on the weekends. Try the Sunday

| Mariano's Mexican Cuisine | Dallas, TX | |
|
Boasting as the home of the margarita, Mariano's is OK at best.
The food is always good, the best item is the fajitas in my opinion,
however slightly overpriced. The atmosphere is nice, although
the place is somewhat hard to find. The price is the main drawback
to a nice restaurant. Uncle Julio's offers better fare at competitive
prices and is just down the street.

| Taco Cabana | Dallas, TX | |
|
If you are drunk and hungry, this is the best place to go for Mexican
food. The Super Nachos will cure any hangover. Excellent for
breakfast after a hard night of drinking as well. And to keep with
the drinking theme, Cabana offers the best (and cheapest) margaritas
in town. Nothing compares the TCs of San Antone though, those
are truly amazing. Try a dozen tortillas and a side of queso or
refried beans as a snack.

||
| Taco Diner | Dallas, TX | |
|
Taco Diner used to be much better when it first opened. The tacos
were ordered individually and the atmosphere was open for sharing.
Since the menu has changed, the quality of the restaurant has
deteriorated as well and while the food is still good better can
be had for the price. Taco Diner is not too different than the Mi
Cocina's that can be found scattered about. The interior is a
little more modern but the food is basically nothing to shout
about.

| Mama's Pizza | Dallas, TX | |
|
The best pizza in Dallas (or a close tie with Lover's Pizza). The
cheese is piled on in abundance and the toppings are top notch.
The restaurant itself leave much to be desired. It is usually
crowded and the location is small but the pizza is top notch. You
will not be disappointed.

||
| Double Dave's Pizzaworks | Dallas, TX | |
|
The best pizza buffet in town for one reason and one reason only
. . . the pepperoni rolls. The salad bar is usually bare and the
pizza itself is mainly middle of the road but the pepperoni rolls
are to die for. Be prepared to fight however as there are rarely
enough made for the buffet and they go quick. I have seen more than
my share of scuffles over the last roll. Also the apple treats
standout as a good cleanser for the palette.

| Pizza Patron | Dallas, TX | |
|
For cheap, fast pizza, Pizza Patron is by far the best location
in town. Can easily feed a starving family on a low budget. Pizza's
average cost is about 6 dollars a piece and the quality is exceptionally
high. Great topping selection and an excellent thin crust that
fits into any budget.
