| Sweiss Gyros & Pita | Emeryville, CA | |
|
nothing to sing about here: i don't remember buying a more pitiful
falafel & pita in the past, the portions proved quite small, &
a warning to people who practice a vegan diet: avoid the rice,
which gets prepared with butter. on the plus side, this place
offers one of the least expensive meal choices in the public market.
still, i left feeling unsatisfied. i agree with the previous
reviewer regarding the mall-like quality. only two stars.

| Pamir Afghan Cuisine | Emeryville, CA | |
|
while i don't really care much for the public market, this little
stand sells some delicious food at pretty reasonable prices.
the counter staff proved quite helpful in helping me to make a
selection. a good point for the market, which in my opinion, seems
generally the exception.

| Cactus Taqueria | Oakland, CA | |
|
i really enjoy the burritos here. you can choose from three different
wraps (spinach, tomato, and regular flour), as well as a plethora
of fillings. definitely the best in the area. i like the salsa
& fresh sliced jalapeno condiment table for doctoring your order
to any specific taste. a very colorful restaurant with a relaxed
atmosphere and great food. a big plus for rockridge!

| Mon Lisa | New Orleans, LA | |
|
a moderately priced traditional italian menu served in a casual,
dimly lit, hipster atmosphere. this restaurant exists as something
of an anomaly in the french quarter, as they serve no alcohol,
so bring your own wine if you want to drink. the food tastes good,
and while the service varies, one can generally expect reasonable
attention from the waitstaff. they will accomodate vegan diets.

| Eat A Pita | Berkeley, CA | |
|
a pretty good mediterranean restaurant with a cafeteria sort
of setting. great selection of foods at reasonable prices, although
bongo burger down the street sells falafels at a slightly lower
rate, eat a pita has a more dedicated mediterranean menu, as well
as as better selection of condiments.

| Cafe Neutron Bakery | Berkeley, CA | |
|
while i agree with the previous reviewer, neutron donuts has
reverted to a more standard schedule in the past couple of years.
what once served as the only real all night portal in berkeley
has finally gone the way of pretty much every other thing in berkeley,
making it little more then a regular donut shop. definately a
loss.

| Cafe Espresso Experience | Berkeley, CA | |
|
this place sells some great tasting smoothies! i especially
enjoy the mango sunrise flavor, and so does my son. make sure you
get two if you order with someone else, or you may not get much!
seriously, they taste excellent.

| Siam Cafe | New Orleans, LA | |
|
when in new orleans, one should not miss this little thai restaurant/venue
at the edge of the french quarter. also called the dragons den,
siam has one of the most relaxed atmospheres of any restaurant
i've ever eaten in with the exception of the howling frog (r.i.p.)
in portland, or. the food tastes great, & if you practice a vegan
or vegetarian diet, this place (among a very select few in the
area) offers more than one selection. you can choose to eat in
the restaurant or outside. inside, you can listen to whatever
band plays that night, while outside often you will find diversions
for individuals with 'more discriminating tastes'. two for
one sake night on mondays always packs them in. a very festive
& laid back atmosphere. worth checking out!

| Viceroy Indian Cuisine | Berkeley, CA | |
|
the food here tastes very good, the waitstaff: courteous and
attentive, yet the sevice takes forever. when the food finally
arrived i don't know how much the flavor mattered, as i probably
would have eaten nearly anything at that point. perhaps the kitchen
needed more help when i ate there. anyhoo, i could eat the vegetable
samosas all day. overall, a good indian restaurant.

| Long Life Vegi House | Berkeley, CA | |
|
i'd heard many good reviews from friends about this place, yet
found the experience
quite dissatisfying. very greasy food, claustrophobic atmosphere.
i guess i expected more...

||
| Smart Alec's | Berkeley, CA | |
|
not a bad place. i practice a vegan diet, & occasionally purchase
smoothies here...very centrally located!
|
||
| The Blue Nile | Berkeley, CA | |
|
i enjoy the atmosphere of this establishment, & while the wait
staff often seems in a different world, the hostess proves very
attentive. i like the food, but i think they should serve larger
portions. also, i wish they would add more spices to their mesobs
& forego the rice. still, i keep coming back. ;)

| Plearn-Thai Cuisine | Berkeley, CA | |
|
very good thai restaurant in berkeley. i eat here every so often,
and each time, i leave feeling pretty satisfied. i prefer a more
relaxed atmosphere (siam on st. peter & esplenade in new orleans,
for instance), but the food has few equals in the realm of quality!
good vegan selections, by the way, but you should look before
you leap if you care about such things, as i do.
|
||
| Satay House | Berkeley, CA | |
|
when i lived on the streets of berkeley, i would raise enough money
to eat at satay house about every other day. now, i tend to go there
every so often. i really love the food (they have an extensive
vegan menu) & i enjoy the durant square atmosphere. anyway, i've
eaten here many times, & love this restaurant!
|
||
| Cactus Taqueria | Berkeley, CA | |
|
i love this restaurant. great burritos that rival the mission,
in my opinion. although i've eaten at the solano store, i usually
go to the one on college. pretty relaxed atmosphere.
|
||
| Cafe Intermezzo | Berkeley, CA | |
|
i used to eat here all the time. they make very big salads but bring
your own onions, you won't find any here. pretty relaxed atmosphere,
& great table scores! they will give you heel slices of bread for
free!
|
||
| Caffe Giovanni | Berkeley, CA | |
|
i liked this restaurant, but i prefer milanos in emeryville (my
personal favorite) or uncle vito's in sf. giovannis has a relaxed,
casually elegant atmosphere, good service, and preety decent
food.
|
||
| Bongo Burger | Berkeley, CA | |
|
great food ( i often get the falafel & hummus) & great prices. very
relaxed. a side note though, the bongo burger shown actually
resides on bancroft as berkeley locals know...the one on dwight
doesn't have the rounded entrance. ;)
|
||
| Milano | Emeryville, CA | |
|
for a pasta afficionado, like myself, this restaurant rules!
excellent food, copious portions, & great wine! highly attentive
waitstaff, and a very friendly atmosphere. worth the price!
|
||
| Herbivore | San Francisco, CA | |
|
excellent restaurant with an entirely vegan menu. pretty young
atmosphere, great service, wonderful entrees. whenever i get
out to the city, i try to end up eating here. highly recommended!
