| Coronas | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Our favorite non-formal restaurant. May we suggest the Marquita
Special with corn tortillas (not the chips, which are already
complimentary & put on your table with salsa when you are seated).
Beef tips or Pollo (Chicken) grilled w/ onions & mild peppers,
on a bed of lettuce & covered w/ sour cream, guacamole, & cheese,
it is served as a salad, but we prefer to make "soft tacos" w/ the
corn tortillas(you have to request the corn tortillas when you
order). One order is enough for both of us, and is the best-kept
secret on their menu.
Also, their salsa verde (tomatillo salsa) could easily win awards, and its the best we've ever tasted. Full of cilantro & green onions, this wonderful salsa is usually mild to medium in heat. If you are really daring, try the salsa diabla, one of the finest hot salsas I (Butch) have ever put in my mouth. Not for the faint of heart, this salsa is usually a medly of habanero, jalapeno, and dried chiles that will make your taste-buds dance the cha cha cha. All that said, the very best thing about this restaurant is not necessarily the food, although it is some of the best we've ever eaten. I'ts not the atmosphere, even though Corona is always clean & ample, with both a smoking & non-smoking room (we prefer the smoking area because it is a much more open environment, even though we don't smoke). That which separates this restaurant from the pack is the people. The people working there are glad to be there, and they are glad you are there as well... and it shows in the quick & exceptional service you will recieve. We have been eating at Coronas for many years now, & have never gotten bad service or a bad meal. To us, that speaks volumes! Butch & Harriet Rice |

| Red's Backwoods BBQ | Duncan, SC | |
|
YUCK! The only thing we enjoyed about the restaurant was the sauces.
They have 4 or 5 regional sauces that were delicious. The food
however, was mediocre & overpriced. My ribs were dry & overcooked!
The service was pathetic. Our only memories of this eatery are
bad ones, which is a shame... we live only 1 mile from there.

| Stefano's Restaurant | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Spartanburg's finest casual elegant dining. I'm glad to finally
agree with Charlie Shill on a restaurant. Do expect to spend some
time there, because while we've found the wait staff to be excellent,
the kitchen takes it's sweet time to prepare some of the finest
Italian Cuisine we've ever eaten.
Our favorite romantic environment in an eatery, we reserve our visits to Stefano's to "non-kid" outings. Butch & Harriet Rice |

| Beacon Drive In | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
The Carolina's answer to Atlanta's Varsity Restaurant, but
only better. This is the King of the Greasy Spoon!
Grab your Tums, and hurry down Reidville Road. You can't miss it. You may even smell the onion rings before you see the restaurant... which I heartily recommend. Be forewarned... the only impression you'll carry with you after you experience these greasy delicacies is the unbelievable heartburn if you forget your Tums. By the way, the last few times we ordered fish it wasn't good at all...extremely fishy & we couldn't eat it. Definitely not among our recommendations. |

| Le Baron Restaurant | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
We've always had a good time at LeBaron Steak House. The food is
great, and the decor is festive, with a large dance floor, a quaint
bar, and several wonderful meeting rooms. I'm not sure if reservations
are required, but they are suggested & appreciated by the staff

| Hops Bar and Grill | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
We usually eat lunch here, its a great lunch for about $5-$7. The
beers are well crafted, and as a homebrewer I really appreciate
well crafted beers. For the best crafted beers in town, however,
try R.J. Rockers, they always have 8-10 different varieties
of their own delicious crafted brews at all times.

| Chucky's Chicken Coop II | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
The food was great, however, the Coop II on Westgate Mall Drive
didn't make it... its been gone for several months. Poor location
killed it. The best macaroni pie I've ever eaten, and where else
can you get collard greens?

| La Finca Restaurnate Mexicano | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
This retaurant has been gone for over 1 year now, having been replaced
by several Thai restaurants which have also fallen by the wayside.
This is a terrible location for a restaurant.

| Blue Bay Seafood Restaurant | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
We've always had great service and a good meal here. It is great
fried fish. Expect to pay for this kind of eating, and come packing
a good antacid, because while the food is terrific, and a great
value, you may experience a little heartburn if you get carried
away.

| Peach Blossom Motel | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Great breakfast, and I have enjoyed the hamburger steak w/ fries
& cole slaw for 25 years now.

| Seven Sea's Seafood & Steaks | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Service is the only reason we don't rate them more highly. On busy
evenings the atmosphere is a little too much like a cattle roundup.
The fish is good, and the Prime Rib is the best in the area.

| King's Buffet | Spartanburg, SC | |

Isn't as good as it began. They do have sushi on the buffet. The
last time I ate there, the best thing I had was the Water!

| Boots' & Sonny's Drive-In | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Fast drive thru, and known for their Dogs. One of the few Fast Food
restaurants I return to. Good value, Great Dogs!

| China Buffet | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
A good buffet, not a great one! Food is fresher than at other buffets,
but variety is more limited. We prefer Sun King for the best variety
on any buffet in Spartanburg.

| Renato's Italian Restaurant | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Very small Bistro. Great food, but slightly overpriced for our
budget. So while we enjoyed the food, we found the value to be influenced
negatively by the price.

| Basil's Grill | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
We no longer eat at Basil's because we have had several very mediocre
experiences which will always affect our decision to return.
Good Greek-American Fare when they are on, and bad service & average
food when they are off.

| Hickonry Tavern | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Great bar-restaurant atmosphere, a little loud but elegant.
Great choices of draft beers, including Newcastle Brown Ale,
one of the finest beers in the world. Food is great, with all-you-can-eat
snow crab legs on Tuesday evenings.

| La Fogata Mexican Restaurant | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Average Mexican Fare. A much better Mexican Eatery has opened
a few miles down the road at Lake Bowen
|
||
| Corona Mexican Restaurant | Spartanburg, SC | |
|
Unbelieveable service, & the food is always wonderful. Best
kept secret on menu, Marquita Special. Ask for the salsa verde
for the finest in tomatilla salsa(mild to medium), or the salsa
diabla(Heat index as the name might indicate) if your tastebuds
& stomach are so accustomed. The friendly staff will gladly bring
you either or both salsas complimentary with your already complimentary
endless tortilla chips.
