| Publick House Restaurant | Chester, NJ | |
|
Chester is a nice area. The building and decor are also very nice.
The food and service is OK.

| Calaloo Cafe | Morristown, NJ | |
|
This place is great. The food and the decor both offer something
a little different, which I like a lot. There is a lot of energy,
and the staff is very friendly.

| Valentino's Italian Restaurant | Morristown, NJ | |
|
Price-y but delicious and well worth the trip. Your taste buds
will be dancing, and they'll beg for more when the meal is done.

| Kenilworth Diner-Restaurant | Kenilworth, NJ | |
|
A pretty nice diner. The food is good, and the service is fast.
Very comfortable.

| La Griglia | Kenilworth, NJ | |
|
The food is delicious and price-y, particularly the crab cakes
($18 for two) -- we always get them as an appetizer -- and the sea
bass (when they have it). Get there early because their specials
are so good that they usually run out by the end of the evening.
The expresso is wonderful.

| Chevy's Fresh Mex | Clifton, NJ | |
|
Conveniently located next to the new multi-plex theater and
open very late. The food is good, and although it is a chain, this
Chevy's is much better than others I have visited. Service is
always friendly, and the food again is very good. However, I'd
advise staying away from the chili; it's taste is nasty.

| Bangkok Garden | Hackensack, NJ | |
|
One of my favorite Thai restaurants in Jersey. It's family owned
and more personal than some places. The Thai iced tea is better
here, and I can't figure out why it is so much better tasting than
it is in other restaurants. Beware, though, if you're a spicy
food fan because their definition of "hot" is very different
from other cuisines' definition of "hot". Although I usually
have to send food back elsewhere for more heat, I order Thai food
at medium heat. However, don't be afraid if you don't like spicy
heat because Thai food can be made very mild as well.

| Clam Broth House Restaurant | Hoboken, NJ | |
|
For a place that's been around for ages, it's not that great. The
seafood used is mid- to low-quality, especially the clams. And
don't order the Sangria, which they make for some unknown reason
with 7-Up!!! The salads likewise are made with cheap iceberg
lettuce, and the alcoholic drinks are watered down.

||
| Old Bay Restaurant | New Brunswick, NJ | |
|
The food is delicious, and when they say that the drinks here are
strong, they mean it! The only disappointment was the alligator
sausage; they've mixed in so much pork and/or beef that it doesn't
taste like much. The soup and seafood are wonderful.

| Iberia Tavern & Restaurant | Newark, NJ | |
|
Do not believe the hype. This place is by far the worst Spanish/Portuguese
restaurant I have ever visited. The decor is dirty looking and
about as inviting as a cafeteria. The service is slow and rude
(hostess and wait staff). The shellfish still has sand in it.
The lobster is low quality. And the salad is cheap iceberg lettuce
with a slice of tomato and a sliver of cucumber. Disgusting! Go
to Forno's of Spain just down the street for a truly remarkable
dining experience!!!

| Don Pepe | Newark, NJ | |
|
Quantity and quality in one place. Come with a big appetite, and
still expect to take some home with you. The service is fast and
friendly.

| Forno's of Spain Restaurant | Newark, NJ | |
|
This is by far the BEST Spanish/Portuguese restaurant in Newark.
Very elegant atmosphere and decor, but you are welcome even in
jeans and a T-shirt. The food is top quality, from the salad of
sea salt-washed romained lettuce, olives tomatoes and onions
to the perfectly steamed lobster. My favorite dish is the shrimp
in champagne sauce, and I absolutely love the "chips" that they
serve with every meal. The service is fast and friendly -- even
at their busiest. After dinner, be sure to enjoy a Spanish, Mexican
or Jamaican coffee -- the smoothest and tastiest coffee ever
and served in a brandy snifter. No reservations taken, so get
there early on weekends especially. Even if you have to wait,
though, it is worth it -- and then some.

| Iberia Peninsula Restaurant | Newark, NJ | |
|
This place is just as bad as the other Iberia, perhaps worse since
we had uninvited guests on our table (i.e., cockroaches). Disgusting.
Go to Forno's of Spain down the street, and find out what Spanish/Portuguese
food is supposed to taste like. Also, it's cockroach-free dining.

| Casa Bella Restaurant | Denville, NJ | |
|
Very home-y and comfortable. The food is exquisitely prepared.
Pasta may even be freshly made, and the bread is beyond compare.
On our first visit, the staff made us feel as though we had been
regulars for years.

| Mikado Japanese Steak House | Whippany, NJ | |
|
Nothing special. Nothing to write home about. Basic Japanese
restaurant. If you seen one chef cook in front of you, you've seen
em all. Food is OK. Not good enough to justify the prices.

| Eagle Rock Diner & Restaurant | West Orange, NJ | |
|
If you like your food cheap, fast and greasy, this is the place
for you. My favorites are the fried chicken and the fried shrimp
baskets. Stay away from the desserts, though, because -- like
most diners -- you don't know how long they've been sitting there.
|
||
| Manor | West Orange, NJ | |
|
Very good food. The prices are a bit much, but you do get what you
pay for. Service is generally nice, could be a little friendlier.
I have heard about their awesome seafood brunch, but have never
tried it.

||
| Starlite Restaurant & Pizza | West Orange, NJ | |
|
For a restaurant/pizzeria, StarLite offers not only great pizza
but also delicious Italian meals that rival area restaurants.
I have tried almost every menu item and can personally vouch for
the taste and quality of all of them -- except for the veal dishes.
They do tend to overcook the veal so that it's chewy and not so tender.
However, everything -- and I mean everything -- else is wonderful.
Service can be impersonal at times, depending on the waitress,
but it is worth the trip. And their "pizza bread" is delicious;
be sure to ask for more when your basket is empty.

| Casa Nostra | West Orange, NJ | |
|
Based on food quality alone, this restaurant earns a rave review.
However, the quality of service and the attitude of this place
make the dining experience aggravating and unpleasant. This
site used to be a Ground Round and a Kenny Rogers chicken joint;
it is located between a McDonald's and a cheap buffet place and
across from an ice skating rink. However, Casa Nostra thinks
that it is a fine dining establishment in Short Hills. The host
was openly rude on our first visit, commenting on our appearance,
and the hostess acted as if we'd put her out by not making reservations
for dinner at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night. Despite the fact that
she claimed reservations are required since they are so busy,
the restaurant was still half empty when we left at 7 pm for a charity
reception. The waiters attempt a fake Italian accent which doesn't
fool anyone. And, most laughable, they have added valet parking;
you can walk the perimeter of the lot (including the restaurant
in the middle) in under 5 minutes. Go for the food if you dare. Or
get takeout. Or just laugh your way thru the meal at the ridiculous-ness
of it all.

| Original Hot Dog Shops | Pittsburgh, PA | |
|
Mounds of greasy fries. Hot dogs with everything on em. My idea
of heaven. It was one of my favorite places in college and during
law school, and coming back on a recent visit to the Burgh was like
seeing an old friend.
