| Executive Diner Restaurant | Hawthorne, NY | |
|
A slightly better than average diner, with a broad menu, good
portions, and reasonable prices. Located conveniently on Route
9A and open 24 hours. The restaurant seems to have the same management
as El Dorado on Rt 119 in Elmsford.

| Hardy's Bavaria | Sunnyvale, CA | |
|
There aren't a lot of German restaurants out there, especially
on the west coast, but this is one of the better ones I've been to.
The fare consists of huge portions of well-seasoned, expertly-cooked
meat. Not recommended for vegetarians. They also have a nice
selection of German beers. The decor is understated, and music
gives the place a nice ambience. The restaurant is a little hard
to find, because the sign has dark lettering on dark wood and hangs
above the door so you can't see it from the road.

| Eldorado Diner Corp | Elmsford, NY | |
|
A better-than-adequate diner, El Dorado has a larger menu selection
than most diners in the area, and pretty fast service. Open 24
hours.

||
| Oriental Diner | Hawthorne, NY | |
|
Very aptly named, Oriental Diner serves a very broad selection
of Chinese, Thai, and Japanese selections (including sushi).
The food is good, though not particularly authentic or distinctive.

| Highland Restaurant | Ossining, NY | |
|
A run of the mill diner with adequate food and atmosphere. Service
is pretty prompt. Open late (till 1AM on weekdays, 3PM on Fridays
and Saturdays). Seems to be quite the teen hangout.

| El Torero | Cape Girardeau, MO | |
|
El Torero charges very reasonable prices for large portions
of quite tasty Mexican food. Pretty authentic, although you
might not get the more exotic dishes (e.g. mole).
|
||
| Great Wall Chinese Restaurant | Cape Girardeau, MO | |
|
This restaurant seems to be a part of the recent "International
Buffet" trend, offering seafood and edible Chinese streetcart
food in bulk. Emphasis is decidedly on quantity, not quality.
Impressive in its own way.

| Lambert's Cafe | Sikeston, MO | |
|
This place is more of an experience than a restaurant. The entrees
are very good (though I think you can find better ribs) but most
people come for the atmosphere and experience. This is no Hard
Rock Cafe, though -- portions are very large, and you won't come
away feeling ripped off.

||
| Jim Bob's Steaks & Ribs | Joplin, MO | |
|
Some people swear by this place, but I haven't been particularly
impressed. The ribs seem more boiled than barbecued, and the
steaks are mediocre. The peanut shells on the floor are about
the only reason this place is memorable at all.

||
| Kitchen Pass | Joplin, MO | |
|
With an eclectic menu that can only be called "American", Kitchen
Pass serves pretty good meals and has a good selection of drinks.
|
||
| Wilder's Fine Foods | Joplin, MO | |
|
Although the name makes it sound more like a grocery store than
a restaurant, Wilder's has some good food and a fine bar. Service
can be slow (sometimes a problem during lunch).

| Old Miners Inn | Alba, MO | |
|
One of the most amazing restaurants I've ever seen, this place
is an aberration -- a five-star French restaurant in a tiny town
of a little over 400 people. The food is expensive, but very well
prepared, and unlike most French restaurants, portions are
large. Desserts are freshly made and a real delight. The place
has a very good wine selection, including apertif and dessert
wines and ports. The restaurant is decorated with a collection
of mining equipment from the old lead mining days in the area.
An experience not to be missed!!

| Frankie's Wings & Things | Cape Canaveral, FL | |
|
This place has great buffalo wings (you can specify how spicy
you want them) and a good selection of beer. The atmosphere (and
the service) is that of a bar. Close to the harbor and to several
other bars.

| Florida's Seafood Bar & Grill | Cocoa Beach, FL | |
|
Good seafood in large portions, along with reasonable prices,
makes this a very popular place in Cocoa beach. The place has been
crowded every time I've been there, understandably affecting
the service.

||
| Cocoa Beach Pier | Cocoa Beach, FL | |
|
Nice location -- I enjoyed watching developing dusk colors and
the moon rise over the water while waiting for my food. After a
meal that would be charitably described as mediocre, I got to
wondering whether I'd get a chance to see the sun rise before I
got my check.

| Pete's Saloon & Restaurant | Elmsford, NY | |
|
A nice place to unwind after work, Pete's has a broad selection
of beer and drinks. The food, principally steaks and burgers,
is certainly adequate. Live entertainment most nights.
|
||
| Beausejour French Cuisine | Sunnyvale, CA | |
|
Excellent French food for very reasonable prices. Seems like
everything on the menu is pretty good. Save room for dessert.
The service seems a bit haughty, but isn't that the way French
restaurants are supposed to be?

| Buca di Beppo | Palo Alto, CA | |
|
Good Italian food with great party atmosphere This restaurant
is really good for large groups: the portions are all family
size so you really can't come here by yourself. The menu is
eclectic, with most traditional Italian favorites. The service
is sometimes slow, and expect a long wait if you don't make
reservations.

| Kal's Bar B | Sunnyvale, CA | |
|
Good, extremely cheap lunch fare. It reminded me a lot of Clark's Burger, but the steaks and burgers are better.You get a good size steak for $8.25. The toppings bar didn'timpress me, though. Serves beer as well.
