| T G I Fridays | Cupertino, CA | |

The food is pretty good, with ribs and chicken dishes for a
reasonable price. But before you go, be aware that you will be
balancing decent food with really rotten service!

| Yiassoo Restaurant | Cupertino, CA | |

Nice, homey greek food "like grandmom makes". For me it's worth
the half-hour drive just for the pickled salad. (Don't expect
a sit-down place, though!)

Terrific for meeting after classes (down the street from Sac
State). The food isn't bad, but the beer is something wonderful!

| Johnies Pizza | San Jose, CA | |
|
First: Johnnie's is strictly takeout/delivery. Once you've
gotten past that, you're in for a treat. Second: Want a perfect,
generic pizza? Go somewhere else. At Johnnie's, the
pizzas are made fresh, from fresh ingredients. This means you
may get a little soggy or uneven crust sometimes, and every
pizza may not have EXACTLY 50 pieces of pepperoni, but I'd
rather have that than that cardboard stuff from a chain pizzeria.
Besides, for $5 for a medium two-topping, you just can't beat it. |

Best hot wings I've had in... ever! Ordered a burger medium-rare,
and it was cooked perfectly. The service is terrific,
and the atmosphere is comfortable and nostalgic.

Mouthwatering BBQ selections, but the sides are so-so.
Overall, definitely not a bad casual dining experience.

The food is terrific! Try the nightly specials; they're always
great. The service is exceptionally good. Atmosphere is very
family-friendly.

| Cluck U | Santa Clara, CA | |

An OK place to "get a feel for the old college days", but don't
expect much food wise. Like the name suggest, this place does
mostly chicken. Not a great brew selection, either, but it can
be a neat place to get away and watch a football game. Overall,
it's decent for the prices.

| Su's Mongolian B B | Santa Clara, CA | |
|
Food is self-service here, so how it tastes is up to you, but
they always provide very fresh ingredients. This is a really
good place for a tasty, nutritious lunch when you're really
hungry. Pricewise, it's cheaper than some other mongolian
bbq's. A must-try place for local students.

| Bella Mia | San Jose, CA | |
|
This is a popular spot to be "seen" at, but I can't recommend eating there. The
barbecue sauce used on the steak and ribs was nothing special, a little like the
bottled stuff from the grocer's, and it completely masked the flavors of the
meats. The seafood pasta was served with a sauce I can only recommend for
removing house paint. Everything just seemed very, very heavily spiced.
Tables are crammed so close together that the waiter's backside was up against
one table when he edged in to take an order at another. With so many people in
such a small space, it's no wonder people complain about the service.
There are worse places to eat, but there are also many that are much better!

| Cafe De Matisse | San Jose, CA | |
|
This is a classic coffeehouse, with big, loungy couches
and tables made for playing chess. On various nights,
you can catch live acoustic music or poetry.
Service is friendly and casual; there is a very
"mellow" atmosphere overall. The menu -- which
primarily features a few dozen coffees, teas and other
drinks -- is written on a chalkboard over the coffee
bar.
Food is simple -- stuff like sandwiches or pasta. And if you like vegetarian, you'll find some decent stuff. The desserts are definitely worth trying (the tiramisu is particularly nice, and rich enough to share). The focus is on the extensive beverage menu. If you're downtown for the evening, and would like a cozy spot for coffee and a bite to eat, this is the place to go. |
