Chez Panisse Berkeley, CA
i'm in the food world so often asked by clients, friends "is it worth it" I always try to reply saying it isn't "fancy" if you can be happy with a perfect roast chicken--and you can appreciate perfect vegetables etc. then you will find it a perfecct experience--if you want a place to wear your new designer clothes and be served elegant food in an elegant setting this isn't for you--alice won't miss you. the cafe is expensive too but more accessible and you'll note from compariing lthe menus the restaurant and cafe use the same seasonal ingredients. we enjoy the cafe once or twice a month while the restaurant is for special occasions
Alice's restaurant Vallejo, CA
alice's is just a roadside chinese restaurant but it is by far best in vallejo--food is very cheap but excellent--garlic eggplant $2.25 for example--lunches are very ample and 3.95 to $4.50 and yes quality is high. not Tommy Toy but if you are driving byl on highway 80 take the georgia street exit and enjoy a simple tasty meal
The Breakfast Break Vallejo, CA
we've tried the monthly special dinner three times. charming place run by helpful charming people. five courses for $20! last one we had polenta with muchrooms, mixed green and beet salad, rockfish and shellfish with rice and red pepper and spinch timbales wilth a great orange pound cake oh i forgot the nectarine sorbet in the middle. call 707 644 6421 for info and to make reservations for monthly dinner--necessary. i assume other meals are of the same high quality. vegetarian choices are an option on the dinner
