| Prima Taste Usa | San Jose, CA | |
|
What an amazing restaurant. First off, the decor is modern, colorful
and beautiful, with interesting art and a hanging water feature on
the wall. The service is quick, and the food-- amazing. Try the chicken
wing appetizer, which is cheap, as well as tastier than ANY chicken
wing dish I've EVER had. Worth the messy fingers! Then move on to
the rest of the menu, and don't be afraid to order something unfamiliar,
because that might cover most of what is left--and that's part
of the pleasure in trying a new cuisine. If you HAVE tried Singaporean
or Malaysian cuisine before at one of the many such restaurants in the
Bay Area, know this: Prima Taste is better than most of them. Plus, it's
conveniently accesible from both 880 and 101, off the Brokaw exits.
GO!!!

| Shiok! (Singapore Kitchen) | San Carlos, CA | |
|
From the restaurant's website, http://www.shiokkitchen.com/
:
"Food is the national passion of Singapore and "Shiok!"
is the phrase most often heard uttered by a Singaporean when he or she
has enjoyed a meal."
I was definitely saying "Shiok!" after my meal, and for
days afterward! This restaurant, in a beautiful, softly-lit, art
filled setting, offers great service, a wide menu selection, and the
most amazing, delicious food. It's hard not to order just about
everything & stuff yourself--I'm afraid we did! Order a few
different things and share. They have a dish called an oyster omelet
which bears NO resemblance to something you'll find down at the
Nasty Breakfast Nook. Afraid to try it? I used to be, too. Shiok!
Pricey (some entrees can be 15-20+, but appetizer dishes are plentiful
& much lower in price), but very special. GO... try it.

| Udupi Palace | Livermore, CA | |
|
I see the original info listed the wrong street, so I looked up
the info:
945 Bluebell Dr., Livermore
Phone (925) 960-1942
They also list locations in Newark, Berkeley, & Sunnyvale
(I've been to the Newark as well as the Livermore location.
Nothing going on here atmosphere-wise, just a big, clean, white
and window-lined room. The service is friendly though, and there
is always a good selection of daily specials. I recommend the
thali, which offers a little of everything for one very reasonable
price. They also sometimes offer a buffet, and their dosas (it's
rolled, it's filled, it's hard to explain), hang over
each side of your plate.
Go try it!

| Sansar | Livermore, CA | |
|
One of Livermore's best restaurants, Sansar as a location
in downtown Pleasanton as well, which is also very good. The service
is friendly and usually very attentive, and the food is rich and
delicious.
Sansar is pretty pricey, however, and they don't offer the
thali, a common menu item at Indian restaurants which allows
you to try a wide array of items for one price. Ordering the various
sides here really adds up quickly, but it is definitely one very
delicious splurge. One good option is to try the weekday lunch
buffet, though nothing beats food cooked fresh to order.

| Georgio's | Milpitas, CA | |
|
Oh, man, what a great meal! The menu was so extensive, we had a VERY
difficult time making a choice. The pasta was cooked just right--not
too soft--and all of the sauces we tried were delicious. The salads
were nice & fresh too, and made to order. Our server was friendly
& patient, and our glasses were never empty. In the future
we'll have to try something off of the great-looking pizza
menu (they offer one of my favorites, the pizza margherita),
and maybe at some point off the dessert menu, too.
(I see the listing doesn't include the address-- it's
643 E Calaveras Blvd, in the Town Center shopping center near
Mervyn's. Phone is listed as 408-942-1292).

| La Casita | Fremont, CA | |
|
Just went this month for the first time in years, and had a very
good experience. The food was hot & tasty, and the service
was excellent--our chips & drinks were kept full, and the
server was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. Worth
a trip back.

||
| El Patio Restaurant | Fremont, CA | |
|
The service is just not good enough here, and I don't think
the food rates overlooking that fact. On our most recent trip,
the boss was giving people brusque greetings & ordering
them to sit down in the lobby. He'd end up pointing at people
& ordering them to follow him, and then he'd throw the
menus down at a table and walk on without looking back. The service
itself was equally inattentive & lacking in finesse &
concern. The Bay Area offers a LOT of restaurants with good Mexican
food and good service. El Patio is not a BAD restaurant, but it
used to be so much better. There are better options almost everywhere
you look.

| Lu Lai Garden | Milpitas, CA | |
|
FANTASTIC vegetarian Chinese food, and one of my favorite overall
restaurants. The menu offers a huge selection (over 200 items),
and I've enjoyed most everything I've ordered. Fresh
veggies and tasty faux meats (I've witnessed vegans get
snooty over the fakes, but there are plenty of selections without
any pretenders, as well), and the food is served promptly. Usually
a busy place, and for a good reason.

| Uncle Chong Chinese Restuarant | Fremont, CA | |
|
I've never had a bad experience here: the food is good, the
service is friendly and attentive, and the servers are very helpful
if you're looking for specific suggestions. Having grown
up in the 1970's, All three generations of my family enjoy
their choices at Uncle Chong.

| Thai 71 | Newark, CA | |
|
WOW, did we love the food here. Very good Thai food, and enough
of a selection that making our choices was difficult. Attentive,
friendly service and a nice calm atmosphere topped it all off.
|
||
| Madras Indian | San Ramon, CA | |
|
I'm sad for San Ramon that they only have one Indian restaurant,
but at least it's a really GOOD one! Sure, a couple of the servers
could use lessons in smiling and overall attentiveness, but--the
FOOD! Very good, both on the lunch buffet and off the menu at dinnertime.
Try the spinach pakoras off the appetizer menu--even if you hate
spinach. Madras is worth visiting frequently.

||
| Sangam Indian Cuisine | Dublin, CA | |
|
I wouldn't call Dublin a town known for good restaurants
(in my experience, it's mostly Chain Restaurant H-ll),
so it's nice to find a real--and GOOD--restaurant. The service
was prompt and friendly, and yes, the food was good--but not GREAT.
It was also considerably pricey in comparison to many GREAT Indian
restaurants I enjoy. Sure did love the naan, though--yum!

| El Burro | Campbell, CA | |
|
As with its sister location in Newark, a big, beautiful restaurant
with boring food and poor service. In an area of the country so
rich with excellent restaurants, I'm not sure how the places
like El Burro stay open. "Location, location, location?"
Or perhaps the diners have poor self esteem? I just don't
get it. I didn't get a take-home box either.

||
| Indian Palace Restaurant | Newark, CA | |
|
Friendly service, and a nice buffet on weekends. I prefer the
nearby Bombay Garden, on Mowry in Newark, but this restaurant
also has good food and is worth the trip. As the first reviewer
said, the staff are helpful at answering questions & offering
advice about food.
|
||
| Vegetarian House | San Jose, CA | |
|
I liked the food here a whole lot. The place is unassuming--almost
invisible from the outside, thus the reason it took me so many
years to find it. But I'm so glad it's there! Great selection,
friendly service, and like I said: good food. My non-veg friend
enjoyed it as well.
To acknowledge comments in other reviews: There was some kind
of video & info kiosk toward the back of the restaurant, but
as I was facing the front, it had no effect, and the staff concentrated
soley on good service.

| Madonna Inn | San Luis Obispo, CA | |
|
It's worth a 5-minute trip to gawk at the expensive, trashy
decor, but the food? No. The service, when we finally got it, was
awful. Our food was prepared incorrectly, and the waitstaff
resented the fact we mentioned there was a problem. SLO has plenty
of good restaurants; this just doesn't happen to be one of
them.
|
||
| Tillie Gort's | Pacific Grove, CA | |
|
Not the best-ever atmosphere, but a wide variety, and some good
food to be had. On our last visit, it was hard to make a choice from
the large selection of dishes. One of our orders we loved, the
other we will avoid in the future. But we'll definitely go
back at some point.
|
||
| Taco Bravo | Fremont, CA | |
|
To be avoided. We went due to a great experience at the Santa Clara/San
Jose Taco Bravo location, but what a difference! The employee
here had his buddies running in & out using all kinds of language,
which is nothing compared to him going directly from cash handling
to food handling with no washing or gloves. The beans were dry,
crusty & bad, and the atmosphere was-- well, old, dirty &
broken, to be brief about it.
|
||
| Taco Bravo Of Campbell | Campbell, CA | |
|
Wow. Just went for the first time this month, & we'll
be returning regularly! Delicious food, generous portions,
cheap and served quickly!
Warning: This review applies only to the Campbell location,
not the awful Fremont branch, which is to be avoided. Don't
confuse them with one another!

| El-Burro Restaurants Inc | Newark, CA | |
|
Can't reccommend it at all. Slow service, blah food. Not
a fun experience. Bottom line: we wouldn't go back.
