| Backstreet's Restaurant | Blacksburg, VA | |
|
A good "local" restaurant. Primarily a pizza place. Their pizza
lunch buffet is rather good and the other menu items are decent.
A nice place to meet with a group of friends, but the place tends
to get rather crowded at certain times of the day (but that's Blacksburg
for ya.)
I would recommend that you try it for yourself. Nothing spectacular, but an all-around good place to eat. |

| Jade Buffet | Newport News, VA | |
|
Quite excellent Chinese buffet. Serves lunch and dinner with
very little waiting time. Wide variety of foods including sushi
(dinner). Resonable prices. There is always a good crowd there,
so you know that it must be a popular establishment. I especially
like the grill bar where they serve up freshly cooked chicken
and squid.

| El Mariachi Mexican Restaurant | Newport News, VA | |
|
Very good food. I am not from Mexico nor am I of Mexican decent,
so I can't say that the food is authentic. But the food was just
plain good!
Very large portions for dinner entres! Wide selection of dishes and combo platters. Not much ambience to speak of, but the crowd was mainly families and friendly looking people. Wait staff took a while to get to us, but it was pretty crowded that evening. Waiter thought I said "coke" when I asked for a "fork". |

| Carmela's Home Style Italian | Newport News, VA | |
|
Nothing spectacular, but there were some unique menu items.
Kind of on the pricey side, though (but I had a coupon.)
Dinner entres are quite large, so be prepared to take home a doggie bag. Entres are quite "heavy" (filling), too. Atmosphere is not much to speak of. Not much privacy between tables, so don't go if you want a "romantic" evening. All in all a decent place, but nothing fancy. |

| Joe & Mimma's Italian Pizza | Newport News, VA | |
|
Family-type restaurant. Decent selection of items on the menu:
pizzas, subs, salads, pasta. Subs are huge! Salads are also quite
big. I usually end up taking half my meal back home with me in a doggie
back.
Not a fancy place, but this keeps the prices down to reasonable levels. Waitstaff is inconsistent: sometimes you get a really good waitress, sometimes you don't. |

| Baker Street | Virginia Beach, VA | |
|
I suggest going here before the evening crowd gets in. Brunch
and lunch time is the best time to go to avoid getting "smoked out"
by the bar crowd. Very relaxing and friendly environment at this
time.
Family atmosphere. A typical Kempsville-VB restaurant. Wait staff is very good. Excellent selection of menu items and side dishes (they have sweet potatoes!) Basically American-style food: burgers, salads, chicken, steak, omlettes, waffles, french toast. Something for everyone. |

| Crocs | Virginia Beach, VA | |
|
Typical beach bar, although it isn't right on the strip. Standing-room-only
at night and don't even think about trying to have a conversation
with your buds....too loud in there.
Very snotty proprietors run this place. If your name isn't Bruce Smith or Sweetpea Whitaker, you might not be allowed in. No kidding. One time I tried to get in and the bouncer told me I had to have a Croc's MVP card to get in. WHATEVER! Plus the owner parks his Dodge Viper right out front so you can feel bad that you ain't him. I know someone who was a waitress there and she can back up everything that I am saying. But go and see for yourself. Lots of people really like this place, but not me. |
