Out of business for over a year..now a gym.

| Dad's Restaurant of Niantic | Niantic, CT | |
|
I agree with all the positive comments about this restaurant. It is
an "order at the window and wait for your number kind of place"
. Sit at picnic tables inside or out on the deck across the street and
railroad tracks from Niantic Bay.
Very good lobster rolls (hot w/butter) though not huge, neither is
the price at $11.95. Only problem with them is that the rolls are not
grilled on both sides.
Onion rings were only fair..tasted fishy (old oil).

We found this place to be less than desirable. Their signature French
Stew is awful...dishwater with pork strips and peas..totally tasteless.

| Captain's Galley | West Haven, CT | |
|
Six years after my last meal here, I tried this place for lunch recently.
It hasn't improved and I'd have to use the term dirty to describe
the rest room and the restaurant in general. Tartar sauce cups were
skimmed over and yellow on top indicating a long wait in the refrigerator
I hope) which should never be the case in a busy? seafood restaurant.
Service lackadaisical and amateurish.

| Sans-Souci Restaurant | Meriden, CT | |
|
Dependably good restaurant with large varied menu of American and
Italian dishes. Reservations recommended for popular dining times..very
busy. They do a lot of private parties in rear rooms but these do not detract
from the regular dining room business. Reasonable prices, good food,
good drinks.

Overpriced, mediocre fried seafood, dogs, burgers etc. Long
waits for the food and not worth it. Much better options in the
area.

I am apparently in the minority but this place is nothing extra
at all in my opinion. The salads are watery with too little of the
mediocre dressings. We had prime rib which was pretty good but
the creamed spinach left a lot to be desired as did the baked potatos
which didn't come with butter and took ten minutes for the
wiseass "waiter" to bring any once he decided to return
to the table to see if everything was "good..right".
Loud obnoxious teenage music made conversation impossible.
The place looks a lot better on the outside than the inside. It's
a noisy mess hall.

Great location directly on the water. Good food but not huge amounts
of it. Friendly but somewhat amateurish service. Very good drinks
and the view make it definitely worth going back to.

Barely adequate value for the price charged. Very little ambiance
and the food is OK but nothing better. You can do much better in
St Augustine

Second time here within two months. Excellent ambiance, food,
drink and very good service. Will be back again any time we are
in town.

| The Shell House | Savannah, GA | |
|
Good, not great, crab dinners and numerous other primarily seafood
entrees. All meal debris is disposed of in a hole in the center
of the table which empties into a garbage can which some may find
a little too informal. Service was good and friendly but prices
are a little steep considering that all dinnerware etc. are disposable.

We had a very enjoyable experience here although it was in the
off season. Surroundings were pleasant and the service was good.
Food servings were large and well prepared.

| Roadhouse Cafe | Hyannis, MA | |
|
I've been to this place numerous times over the years and
always enjoyed good meals. Their success has gone to their heads
however and now the prices are really up there for good, but not
great, food. Service was somewhat arrogant and definitely not
justified by performance.
Won't be rushing back. Obvious tourist rip.

| Captain Scott's Lobster Dock | New London, CT | |
|
Extremely difficult to find but worth it for the huge lobster
rolls (hot, of course, w/butter) although they also serve a cold
lobster salad roll according to the menu board. Observed fried
clams being served which looked great also. The onion rings (the
large type) were very good with a really good batter which I assume
is the same used on the fried seafood. A disappointment was the
Rhode Island clam chowder which consisted of red skin potatoes,
juice and not much else. Oddly devoid of taste and much of the potato
was mush which makes one wonder how much was left over from a previous
days batch. I wouldn't order it again but the HOT lobster
rolls made it all worthwhile.

| Dakota Restaurant | Milford, CT | |
|
As an update from my 2000 review, I am sorry to say that this restaurant
has seriously slipped downward. On a recent Saturday night at
prime dinner hour there was no line and plenty of tables available,
a real departure from previous visits. The table we were seated
at was not clean i.e sticky, no server showed up for an extended
period of time, and the drinks took a long time to arrive.
The salad bar was average but I have to question the cleanliness
as there were a number of unsupervised small children helping
themselves by hand. Granted, this is not the fault of the restaurant
but rather of ignorant parents, but it gives an indication of
the element that finds the place attractive.
One of our party ordered a steak that was not remotely cooked as
ordered but no one returned to our table to inquire if things were
alright for an extremely long time. After it was finally sent
back, it did not return until after everyone else was done eating.
A manager arrived at that point with profuse apologies and took
the meal off the check. Not a pleasant dining experience overall.
The slow service was evident in another meal where it was obvious
there was a little too much time under the heat lamp prior to being
served.
I hope they clean up their act, I used to enjoy this restaurant
a lot.

| Clam Castle | Madison, CT | |
|
After one time too many of going to Lenny and Joe's and being
assaulted by the waiting crowd and not enough help, we decided
to try the Clam Castle. It doesn't look like much and ambiance-wise
it isn't, but the fried food is much superior to the greasy
offerings across the street both in quality and size of servings.
The cole slaw is also much better than what you normally get at
L & J's.
The fried clams were outstanding and as good or better as any I
have had in this area. Definitely worth giving a try to the Clam
Castle when the area.

| Divine Fish House | Murrells Inlet, SC | |
|
This restaurant does a great job on the fish not surprisingly,
and has a duck offering that was the best I ever had. The surroundings
are very pleasant and the only criticism I would have is the lack
of handicap accessibility to the upper level.
Prices seem to be a little steep as most of the more desirable items
are between $20 and $30, but then again, the food is definitely
a cut above average.
Worth a trip. Leave the sloppy clothes and the children home.

| Captain Eddie's Seafood Bar | Nokomis, FL | |
|
Very informal, all they have is picnic tables which patrons are
expected to share. Also surprisingly small so when you see a large
crowd outside during snowbird season, there will be a wait.
On the upside, the fish is really fresh and the batter on fried
items is light and tasty. Many items are also offered broiled
and dinners range from under $10. to 14. and lunch baskets and
sandwiches range from under $5. to $6.75. Lunch portions were
not very large but then again, neither was the price.
Pleasant, clean place serving beer and wine and soft drinks only.

| Rotten Ralphs | Anna Maria, FL | |
|
I have to say that although this place was recommended to us, I
am not enthusiastic about endorsing it. The food is mediocre,
the menu totally uninspired, the service indifferent and very
amateurish and the rest rooms as well as the restaurant in general
are not clean. It was surprising to see this, as it is in a pricey
marina where I would have expected better.
The plus side consists solely of the "on the water"
location but this alone is not enough to make this place worth
a visit. Too much good competition in the area. Don't bother
folks.

| Sunset Grill-Pop's & Urbanek's | Venice, FL | |

For all his criticism, you'd think Dbinc would at least place
the restaurant in the right town. It's in Nokomis, not Naples.
