| Bistro Vino | Houston, TX | |

I really enjoyed this restaurant. The menu was long and interesting.
There were so many entrees that looked appealing. The service
was very attentive and the meal was served with perfect timing.
The price was right for the quality of food and the ambience was
quiet and elegant.
Absolutely no complaints. Three people dined and everyone loved their choice. |

| Saltgrass Steakhouse | Conroe, TX | |
|
This is a chain restaurant with many locations in the Houston
area and probably elsewhere. Although the address is Conroe,
its located in the Woodlands area.
I've never been to a Saltgrass before and wasn't sure what I should
expect. I found the menu a bit expensive for what appeared to be
a typical well decorated noisy bustling restaurant (at least
on the Sunday evening I attended). The top sirloin steak I had
was cooked as per my order and was quite good although certainly
not the best I've tasted. The baked potato was first rate though.
The salad was fresh and the honey mustard dressing was tasty but
not overpowering. All in all the food was of slightly better than
average quality. I had one glass of Merlot which I enjoyed. Having
chosen pretty much the cheapest steak on the menu, the bill came
out to $22 or so.
This isn't a restaurant for ambiance. I was stuck in a middle table and the waiters were constantly setting up serving tables around me, the noise level was boisterous, and the tables were generally close together. My main problem with the place though was the wait staff. My waiter forgot - in the two minutes it took him - my instruction to not put tomatoes on my salad. My wine order was also upgraded, but not by my request. I pointed to the wine on the menu I wanted and was brought something else, more expensive of course. Sorry but I'm too cheap to find a $6.25 glass of wine a good deal, even though it was a nice wine. Overall the service felt like I was at a Denny's. For $25 - $30 a head, I expect better service than I was given. There wasn't anything terribly wrong with it (other than the above) but there wasn't anything right either. Try a Steak and Ale as a (better in my humble opinion) alternative. |

| Olive Garden Italian Restaurant | Houston, TX | |
|
Hey, its an Olive Garden so you know pretty much what you're in
for. I'm not a huge fan of the communal salad bowl but the taste
is pretty good. Breadsticks fine. We had a plate of stuffed mushrooms,
fried mozza and calamari. All made the grade. The mozza pizza
went over well with the kids and my chicken scampi was actually
pretty decent.
Our waitress was adequate but I would normally expect better
based on Olive Gardens in other states and countries.
5 people - $54 bucks, tip included. I don't think you can complain
too much at that price.

| C & C Restaurant | Spring, TX | |
|
Located between 2920 and the Woodlands where you don't really
expect a restaurant, I happened by C&C's by chance. The food is
an eclectic mix but the back half of the menu is Chinese food. I
had the Sweet and Sour chicken. The place doesn't look all that
exciting and I wasn't expecting much, but the food was actually
reasonable. Its just your local restaurant, but you could do
worse.
Try the other half of the menu and see what you think. |

| Damian's Cucina Italiana | Houston, TX | |
|
I found everything about this place excellent except for the
need to valet park because of the construction going on outside.
The bread was wonderful and the cheesecake for dessert outstanding.
The cappuccino at the end of the meal hit the spot.
This won't be the cheapest place you've gone to. Basic pasta starts out at $12-13 and entrees are over $20.00...but everything seems better than average. I had the spaghetti carbonera which had a perfect cream sauce and just the right amount of spices and additions. The service was attentive but not overbearing and the atmosphere was moderately quiet. A perfect 'can't make a mistake with this one' Italian restaurant to take a client to, or for a casual but upscale date. |

| Pappas | Houston, TX | |
|
This place is good and everyone knows it, so make sure you get here
early for lunch, because every time I've seen the place at noon,
there's at least 10 people lined up to place orders. The sauce
is good, the meat is good, the sides are good. This is the way BBQ
is meant to be.

| China Border | Houston, TX | |
|
Line up with the other pigs at the trough 'cause this isn't Chinese
food....it barely qualifies as food at all. Actually, I'm being
a bit harsh. The almond cookies and rice krispie squares were
OK.
Save your money and go back to McDonald's. |

| Billy Blues Barbeque, Bar & Grill | Houston, TX | |
|
This is my idea of heaven. Great BBQ and great tunes at the same
time. There is also a general bar area if you don't want to pay the
typical $10 weekend cover charge for the music, but you definitely
DO want to experience the music. The ribs and brisket were better
than average with just the right amount of zing. A large portion
was provided, with good cole slaw and very good onion rings. Draft
was only $2.50. The decor is nothing to get excited about, but
this place you come to for the atmosphere, and that, the place
is oozing with.
Blues, food. Either way Billy Blues is worth coming to. |

| Sghettie's Pasta Kitchen | Conroe, TX | |
|
I've been to this place for both lunch and dinner. In both cases
the food was above average and the service good. I'm definitely
more enthusiatic about it than the other reviewers. Frankly,
its hard for me to get too excited about a spaghettini dish, but
the Shrimp Amato was well executed. There was lots of authentic
Italian sausage and shrimp and a decent tomato sauce. The house
Merlot stood up to the spicy meat flavours. The house salad was
typical; the italian dressing better than average with a nice
light balanced flavour. The buns were warm and appetizing. I
haven't tried enough other Italian places in the area to judge
the relative quality of the restaurant, but based on experiences
in other cities, this is definitely better than average.
Only negative....more strung industrial bare bulb strings to provide the lighting. Boxed supplies form part of the decor as well....its been done before and done better. Lots of live plants though to balance the above. |

| Bluebonnet Cafe | Spring, TX | |
|
What an oasis! Right in the heart of Old Town Spring, stop in when
you just can't look at another piece of dust-collecting paraphernalia
that your spouse just has to get for the mantle piece. Soothing
music, cheery surroundings and quiet cool. There's enough space
between the tables so you won't be constantly jostled, oh and
the food....
The signature dish is a chicken salad and with good reason. This was a premium salad. Excellent taste and every piece of chicken was great white meat - no chicken in a blender style for this cafe. I had mine with a cheese & vegetable chowder. It was served with some mini herb muffins, hot from the oven. I was actually looking for a cappuccino which I ordered. To each his/her own but I thought it was great. Very dark coffee, with grounds left in the mug but not bitter. Definitely NOT Starbucks (that's a good thing). The desserts looked wonderful too but I had to decline because the soup and salad were quite filling. If you're ever out on a drive, stop by just for the coffee and dessert. The fact that its in Old Town Spring is just an added bonus. |

| Gateway of India | Spring, TX | |
|
Let's start with WHERE it is, since nothing on this road has street
numbers. It's in the first mall to the south as you head west from
I-45, in the back row of buildings.
I stopped in at lunch, 1:30 actually, so I had no expectations that the buffet would be well stocked and fresh but it was. The food was spicy but not outrageously hot. A full plate of nan (bread) accompanys your meal. There were numerous veggie dishes and 3 or 4 meat dishes as well as some rice pudding and another item to top it all off for dessert. All were good. For $8.50 including a Coke I thought this was an excellent value, even without the friendly assistance of the hostess and good service. |

| China Garden & Restaurant | Houston, TX | |
|
This place is on the edge of downtown which is probably why there
was no wait for lunch. The decore is pleasant and the waitstaff
was prompt. I ordered Hunan Chicken and it came with the usual
rice and an eggroll. The eggroll was much better than average,
hot and home-made. The sweet sauce was very good too. The chicken
was good but not excellent. There is an extensive 5-6 dollar menu
for lunch to pick from. What do you want for a quick cheap lunch.
It was a good value, good food, quick experience. It's probably
worth 5 stars, but I'll wait 'til I've tried it a few more times.

| Read's Barbeque | Spring, TX | |
|
This really is a good BBQ place but I think there are some better
in the area. As per Shannon's revue, the portions are good for
the price. I had a BBQ 2 meat plate with pork ribs and beef with coleslaw
and potato salad. On the plus side the meat was very tender, with
3 ribs and 4 or 5 thick beef strips served. The coleslaw, I thought,
was quite good. The potato salad was mushy and sticky though and
I prefer a creamier style. They serve you at your table, another
big plus to me. On the negative side the BBQ sauce was average and
I was given one napkin and no toothpicks. Gotta have toothpicks
and lots of napkins when you're planning on getting as messy as
I do eating ribs.
The place has enough tacky memorabilia to make it look like a BBQ place. It's clean and bright. The locals swear by this place, so I don't think you can go too far wrong here. |

| Willie G's Seafood & Steak House | Galveston, TX | |
|
Willie G's had just the right balance of atmosphere, pleasant
decor, and good food to make this an above average experience.
The wait staff were competent, knowledgeable and courteous
without being pretentious. The food was a good value for the money.
I had the stuffed fried shrimp (4 on the plate) which was average
to good and my companion had the blackened redfish which was above
average. The prices and quantities were both reasonable. All
in all a very pleasant experience.

| Wunsche Brothers Cafe & Saloon | Spring, TX | |
|
I've eaten here a couple of times. I guess you have to be a Southerner
to appreciate Chicken Fried Steak so I won't pass judgement on
the place based on that particular dish. Needless to say I didn't
find it appealing. However, as stated in the other reviews the
burgers are fabulous. Great honkin' big burgers and really tasty
at that. A helping of spicy fries (much better than average) is
the choice rather than the onion rings, which are home-made but
with a rather tasteless batter.
