| Fung's Kitchen Seafood Restaurant | Houston, TX | |
|
A very traditional Chinese food restaurant that specializes in Dim
Sum for lunch. Based on our table of 10 persons, the food was pleasing
to all. The bill was expensive for lunch, but the food quality was good
and the service was usually attentive. I wouldn't put this on my
list of favourites, but if you want real authentic Chinese, this is
one of the few places in Houston (I'm told) to go.

| House of Blues | Houston, TX | |

I've had lunch here a couple of times, and was quite impressed with
the food. The menu has some interesting selections, and the prices
were OK although this isn't the typical cheap downtown lunch spot.
A pretty good value

This place is gone. Now in the same location - Gugliani's Italian

Nice ambience. We just ate appetizers so I can't comment on the
overall selection of food, but certainly what we had was nice.

| Brennan's of Houston | Houston, TX | |
|
Consistently fabulous. The praline's at the front door are worth
the trip alone. We go here for the standard business function (retirements/departures)
and the staff always handles things well. Only downside is the lack
of parking. Valet is available.

| Cannery Seafood Restaurant Ltd | Vancouver, BC | |

We ate here with a group of about 10 people and everyone seemed satisfied.
One of the group was so impressed with the restaurant that this was his
third time back. Personally, I found it OK, but nothing that I would
write home about. The service and the atmosphere were both good though
and the food seemed well prepared. I ate a shrimp pasta off the menu and
the chef was generous with the shrimp. I think you probably will be satisfied.
The fish selections were deemed fresh and tasty by those that ate them.

| Bellajjio Cafe | Vancouver, BC | |
|
Well, first of all, the spelling of the restaurant name is wrong - it
is Bellaggio Cafe with 'g's rather than 'j's. Four of us went for lunch here, and all of us left happy. I had a chicken
wrap that was uniquely and wonderfully flavoured. The margaritas
weren't as good as Texas, but you couldn't complain at $4.99.
The servers were pleasant and prompt and the atmosphere was delightful.
All in all a pleasing experience.

| Steamworks Brewing Company | Vancouver, BC | |

I had some corn and clam chowder which sounded very appetizing but turned
out to be fairly average. The same went for the pasta - nothing offensive
- it just lacked any zing. And lastly the beer. For a brew-pub, this bear
was just not that special. Great service, average libations.

| Pink Pearl Chinese Restaurant | Calgary, AB | |
|
I'm not sure that anything makes this place in Banker's Hall
stand out, but the food and service were certainly adequate. Spring
rolls, ginger beef and the other dishes we ordered all seemed somewhat
better than average. If you are looking for Chinese in this part of town,
you won't have any complaints.

| Limerick's Traditional Public | Calgary, AB | |
|
I'm not sure why, but the place was completely packed on a weekday
night. Food, atmosphere and drinks were just great as was the service
by the wait-staff.
A great local bar and casual restaurant.

| Cheesecake Cafe | Calgary, AB | |
|
I never used to go to this restaurant when I lived just a block away because
there was always a line-up. Now that I'm just a visitor to Calgary,
I dropped by at 9:00 p.m. on a Friday. The food was good enough. The cheesecake
(which I had room for because I only had an appetizer) was much better
than I remembered. Not a bad dessert place or a casual meal place. I didn't
find that it was particularly expensive.

| Pegasus Restaurant Ltd | Calgary, AB | |
|
The sign outside claimed a "best-in-Calgary" vote by some
magazine, but I would hazard a guess that there are better places, not
that this was too bad. I've had better Homous, which we tried as
an appetizer. We had to park about a block away as the parking lot was
full, but that's not much different than some other Greek restaurants
I'm familiar with. My main complaint was with the desserts. The
main courses (one lamb and one stew with a Greek name that I can't
recall were actually not too bad. The baclava though came as a roll rather
than a three point wrap and a so-called chocolate mousse, was more like
a unfrozen chocolate pudding, slightly damaged by the act of freezing
it. It was sub-par for any restaurant. The service was prompt and pleasant
though. Personally I think I prefer Mykonos, but this will do in a pinch.

| Aldo & Co. Ristorante Italiano | Creston, BC | |
|
Creston's attempt at an upper-scale retaurant. The interior
is pleasant and small enough to be called intimate. There's not
much parking out front on the main road, but you can park behind the restaurant.
We found the food to be a bit uneven. It's not that the less desirable
stuff was bad - it was just somewhat bland and lacked character. The
shrimp appetizer didn't taste much of garlic or lemon for example.
Of the three main courses, the lasagna and the veal porcini seemed to
be the best. The chicken marsala didn't go over too well. I didn't
care for the bread either. It seemed much too store-bought generic.
I expect some nice bread suitable for dipping in olive oil and balsamic
vinegar. These seemed more like stale buns. Apparently this place
is fairly new, so they may improve some of their selections and given
that some of the plates were quite good, if lacking in quantity, it is
probably worth trying a few things from the menu before passing final
judgement.

| Top's Pizza and Steak House | Calgary, AB | |
|
The restaurant is dismal....for locals only. The main attraction
is the line of slot machines on the back wall. However, the pizza is not
bad, and you can drink a beer while you wait to take it home with you. It's
not usually crowded so the service is prompt.

| James Joyce Irish Pub | Calgary, AB | |
|
The Calgary no-workers syndrome has hit this place. It was more than
25 minutes after order that we got our drinks - a glass of wine and a coffee.
The table next to us was about ready to leave if they didn't get their
food after about an hour's wait. Once received, the bread pudding, although certainly not like they
make it in Louisiana, was edible and the hostess and waitress were pleasant
enough. We ate outside on the 'patio' so I can't speak
to the ambience in the restaurant, but the street scene was....entertaining....as
Stephen's Avenue Mall usually is.

| Brewsters Brewing Co & Rstrnt | Calgary, AB | |
|
Service has always been above par here and the food is consistent. Burger
was excellent. I had a salad and enjoyed the Raspberry vinaigrette,
even though I was surprised that they didn't have 1000 Islands,
French or Honey Mustard. Pretty good place for a casual meal and a good
beer.

| Pantera Bread | Houston, TX | |
|
A better alternative than that other coffee place. At least you can
get some nice treats here. The menu is extremely limited, but it looks
like they are at least trying to put out some breakfast items and light
lunch items. The breakfast sandwichs are pretty good. The atmosphere
is nice and the staff seem to treat you well.

| Massa's Restaurant | Houston, TX | |
|
A bit pricey, but the food was pretty good. The crawfish etouffe (the
'soup' of the day) lacked flavour, but my steak was very nicely
done and tasty. The seafood dishes were all enjoyed and looked well
presented. The deserts are more reasonably priced than the appetizers,
soups and entrees at about $5-6 a piece. I had the pecan pie which was
excellent. The cheesecake was huge and tasty.

||
| El Tiempo Cantina | Houston, TX | |
|
Consistently good revues by others. I'm not a Mexican fan myself,
but I couldn't complain about the quantity/quality of the food.
The place seems to be consistently busy and parking was a bit dicey for
a late lunch on a weekday. The service was attentive so all-in-all a
better than average place to eat. There is a back patio if the weather
is nice and you are so inclined.

| Texas Land and Cattle | Houston, TX | |
|
Went for lunch. As with the previous reviewer, the service was average
at best, drink was incorrect and priced higher than the menu price,
and lunch took more than 45 minutes to deliver. The food was good. If
you like the restaurant, try a different location (249/1960 provides
decent service)
