Oaco Gringo Springfield, IL
Taco Gringo has been a staple in town for many years. The food quality is consistant it seems at all locations. If you want quick Mexican food then stop in. The most popular item is their sancho, although your stomach may talk-back to you the next day.
Alamo Springfield, IL
This new location downtown is an improvement that has been needed for some time. The food is still great. The 'Taco Salad' is a good lunch even if you are starving. Parking is the big problem here. You may have to walk a block. If you work downtown and are walking anyway you must try this place. Just 1/2 block north of the 'Old Capitol Plaza' on 5th Street.
Lincoln Taco Springfield, IL
Reminds me of Taco Gringo. Same basic menu. Some friends say it is better. I don't see much of a difference myself. On Toronto Rd. east of I-55 down from Mowie's Cue.
Spaghetti Shop Springfield, IL
I picked up an order to take to work. I bought a sampler combo with fetichini alfredo/lasagnia/ and a little spagetti which included a generous piece of italian bread. It was great. This was my first time there and I must say that I was very satisfied. Will stop again soon.
Casey's Carry Out Pizza Salem, MO
Stayed in Salem after a canoe trip and someone brought in three different types of pizza. All were pretty good but seemed to like the taco pizza the best. It was under $25 for three big pizzas
Voss Truck Port Restaurant Cuba, MO
Your average truckstop cuisine. This one is as good as any I've been to. Somewhat overpriced for fried food. Better than a Big Mac for about the same price.
Huntergreen Inn & Pub Raymond, IL
A good restaurant. Not a small town cafe. They have a surprisingly good menu here. Steaks/shrimp and whole catfish. We have been there many times to have their pizza. I thought the entrees' were a little pricey but prepared well with good presentation and service. East of the Ford dealer on the north side of the street.
Angelo's Pizza Co Taylorville, IL
A good family oriented restaurant. Typical Italian fare. Usually just get their pizza but the lasagna is a favorite for dinner. The prices are fair and not too high. The service has always been pretty good even when it is crowded. Just a block east of rt.29 on the south side of the street.
Baskin-Robbins Taylorville, IL
If you like ice cream treats then this is your stop in T'ville. Not much else to say. The person that waited on me was friendly. There are a couple of soft freeze places in town but you get the real deal here.
Mick & Mary's Thayer, IL
This place is forever changing owners. The food is always quite good here. Family style dining with large helpings. Full bar for when you get thirsty. They also offer private rooms w/hot tubs for overnight stays. You can have dinner served in you room along with bar service also. You will need rsvns in advance for the rooms. They ask for a deposit at rsvn time.
Harry's New Town Restaurant Steger, IL
Been there a few times. Food is OK. Didn't care much for their potatoes. I use their carry out so I am unable to comment on their service.
Truckers Homestead Pawnee, IL
This is a truckstop at the Pawnee/Auburn exit south of Springfield on I-55. Has been a good latenight stop for the locals a long time. They have a good breakfast except for their hashbrowns (YUK). Serves a buffet dinner that is quite popular. They specialize their broasted chicken which isn't too bad.
County Line Lake Inn Chandlerville, IL
Have been here a couple times when in that area. Dinner was quite good w/family style setting. Their pork chops were nice and thick served with potatoe and vegies. Service was good. Seems to have a good local following which says a lot about the place since it sets on the highway and not in any town. Worth a stop if you like home style cooking. On highway 67 north of Chandlerville, IL.
Fulgenzi's Family Restaurant Athens, IL
Have eaten lunch here several times. They have good food that is HOT when it gets to the table. I love chili and cheeseburgers on a cold winter afternoon and theirs are great. Large portions will fill you up and make you come back. Friendly waitresses and good food. Ya can't beat that. Turn left at the T and just one block down on the right. Parking is on the street so you may have to look for a spot but it is worth it. No Alcohol.
Jubelt's Bakery & Restaurant Carlinville, IL
Have not eaten in the restaurant but thier pasteries are the best you can find anywhere.
Harold's Chicken Shack Chicago Heights, IL
WOW!!The chicken is GREAT. First tried them in Chicago and was surprized to find them here. THIS ISN'T A KFC. Their chicken wings are huge. If you see one of their restaurants and you like chicken you have to stop here even if you aren't hungry. You will be back again. I promise!!
Lonestar Steakhouse & Saloon Decatur, IL
Typical theme bar/restaurant. Same as the other Lone Stars, but I love their ribs. Service was good when I was there last. I had a good waitress that made sure everything was to my liking. Wish I could remember her name so you could ask for her. Standard fair with an emphisis on thick stakes.
Grub-N-Pub Girard, IL
This place pulls in the people. Seems like THE place to have dinner in this small town. Good food and service. Much like what you might expect people come from miles around to eat here. Located on the north side of the square.
Kampsville Landing Kampsville, IL
I have not been here for about a year but will stop again. The food isn't too bad here and I have stopped several times. The service is good considering how packed this place can get at dinner time. They have a full service bar, views of the Illinois River and the ferry that cross's here. This place has flooded many times since it sets so close to the water but, they redo it and open back up when the water goes down. A unique place to stop and have lunch.
Mike's Pizza New Berlin, IL
Digiorno makes a better pizza. A local watering hole with the emphisis on Hole as in Hole in the Wall. Drive on past this place. You'll be glad you did.
