| Schuler's Restaurant | Marshall, MI | |
This was the first Schuler's in what became a small chain. Now,
I think it's back to being the only Schuler's. It's a nice place--roomy,
well decorated, a nice place to go for a special occasion. People
rave about the food, but as a vegetarian, I found it to be just okay.
As is typical in a lot of Midwestern restaurants, vegetables
were overcooked and wait staff and cooks seemed not to know what
to do with a professed vegetarian. No chicken broth? I quit asking
and just ordered a pasta dish.

| Pizza Parlor | Battle Creek, MI | |
Great food, nice service, pleasant atmosphere. Picture a Pizza
Hut but make it cheaper and give it better food and a much wider
variety--you've got Pizza Parlor. It's a little family-owned
place that's been around for at least 20 years, and it's a great
place to hang out after a High School football game, before going
to a movie, whatever!

| Mancino's Pizza | Battle Creek, MI | |
This Mancino's is a shade above the others I've tried. Perhaps
the ingredients are fresher, perhaps they use more seasoning
here, but it's downright edible--great food if you're too drunk
or young to be discerning or you're just famished and want hip-building,
waist-expanding food!

| Clara's On the River | Battle Creek, MI | |
Great food, particularly the buffet. For some reason, this is
where our family gathers whenever there's a funeral to plan.
Perhaps it's comfort food, perhaps it's just the best place to
go to satisfy everyone's tastes. The atmosphere and view are
really nice.

| Ritzee Hamburg Drive-In | Battle Creek, MI | |
As cheap drive-through fast food goes, this stuff rules! This
is the original fast-food joint in Urbandale, and it's still
probably the cheapest place to get a burger (especially if you
have a coupon). Yummy fries!
| Palermo Ristorante | Battle Creek, MI | |
This great little place not only has great bread and good entrees,
but it also has great ice cream! Save room for it!
| Waterfront Restaurant | Battle Creek, MI | |
Semi-casual, yes, but I've also seen kids eat at this restaurant
on prom nights. The food is pretty fresh, and seafood-eaters
tell me that the fish and seafood are really good for a midwestern
restaurant. The view--that's what I like best!
| Mexicali Restaurant | Battle Creek, MI | |
Not at all authentic food, but probably the most popular pseudo-Mexican
place in town since Chi-Chi's. Ordering their margaritas at
lunch or dinner is a big hit with a lot of people.
| Moonraker Lounge & Restaurant | Battle Creek, MI | |
I've never actually eaten here--only had drinks. This is a favorite
spot for meeting people and getting drinks, and the atmosphere
is quite congenial.

| Hunan Chinatown | Washington, District of Columbia | |
The vegetarian dishes are pretty good (***), but the meat eaters
I've gone with have enjoyed it a lot (****). There's an eggplant
dish that's to die for!
| Kinkead's | Washington, District of Columbia | |
Really nice atmosphere, and you should definitely take a good
look at the other diners around you. You might see some faces you'll
recognize! Great place for wine lovers, excellent service with
friendly staff.
| P.F. Chang's | Washington, District of Columbia | |
I've seen some really good fusion food in my time, and this is one
place to get it. Try the specials and ask about vegetarian dishes.
| Planet Hollywood | Washington, District of Columbia | |
A bit overpriced, but that's to be expected. The food is good and,
if you love Hollywood memorabilia, the atmosphere is fun! The
food was pretty standard fare. I wouldn't go there for the food:
go there for the social atmosphere.
| Queznos | Washington, District of Columbia | |
I'm a sucker for good vegetarian food, and cheap food is great,
too. Here we have the two combined. Great place for lunch, nice
location, especially for GWU students.
| T.G.I. FRIDAY'S | GREENBELT, District of Columbia | |
If you're a fan of original, imaginitive food, you'll be disappointed.
This is, after all, a chain restaurant. The atmosphere is on par
with other TGI Fridays and Bennigans. They seem to be short staffed,
though, which is probably why our waitress was inattentive and
impatient.

| Maggie's Buffet | Bradenton, FL | |
There are lots of buffets in Bradenton if you are "in the know."
The local snow birds can tell you when and where to find them. This
one is pretty good. The vegetables are overcooked and you'll
want to watch out if salt intake is a problem--something I ate
made me really thirsty for the rest of the night.

| Tamarisk Restaurant | Green River, UT | |
The only thing keeping this rating above a 1 (awful) was the service.
These folks are the friendliest people! Unfortunately, their
food is bland and uninspired. The dinner buffet was sufficient
for nourishing travel-weary souls, but the breakfast buffet
was disgusting: dry french toast, stale pancakes, unspeakably
bad scrambled eggs (how do you screw those up?).
| Clyde's Drive-In | Saint Ignace, MI | |
Your typical greasy spoon but with great service and extra grease.
Go to get your yearly dose of fried food!
| Northern Lights Restaurant | Saint Ignace, MI | |
Like just about everything in St. Ignace, there is nothing outstanding
about this place, though the atmosphere is nicer than most places.
| Suzy's Pasties | Saint Ignace, MI | |
When in St. Ignace, you must try the pasties (PAY-stees). There
are several places to get them, and they are all rather comparable.
