Chicago Pizza & Oven Grinder Co. Chicago, IL
This is a resturaunt that has a great gimmick.. Pizza served in a bowl upside down in a bowl. It sounds goofy, but it's interesting. As far as taste goes, I was disappointed. These little pizza's are pretty expensive, and in my estimation, not worth the wait or the price. The famous Mediterranean was pretty good, but if you ask me, the Italian salad is the way to go. Its pricy, but huge and tasty.
REDFISH Chicago, IL
If Heaven on Seven is booked this is a good second choice. The food is good, but not spectacular. The ambiance is fun, they have live music a good bar. For my money, you are better off to come here after dinner for the bar and the entertainment.
Soul Kitchen Chicago, IL
Great place for breakfast. The decour is everything you'd expect from a "modern" soul kitchen. The music is fun and the decoration is perfect. On top of all of this, the food is delightful. I've only ever ordered the specials and I've yet to be disappointed. If you go for Sunday Brunch, get there early!
Topo Gigio Ristorante Chicago, IL
Savory food and fun atmosphere make Topo Gigio a must dine in Chicago. The service is quick and the wait-staff is very helpful. I had the Veal Special. It was yummy. We also split the Bruschetta, Crab Cakes, tomato/mozzerala salad, Calamari, Portabella mushroom and Polenta -- as apetizers. I had no room for desert. I suggest, as always, sitting outside. They have a couple guys playing romantic music.
Pizzeria Due Chicago, IL
Great pizza, outstanding house salad, and a fun atmosphere make this Due's a Chicago icon. If you live in the city, don't go on the weekends, the lines are horrible (damn tourists) and the pizza is "so-so". I stongly suggest going during the week, the food is really much better and the lines are non-existent.
Heaven On Seven Chicago, IL
Great food. I've had several items, my favorite is the Ettoufe. I'd also suggest the jerk chicken wings. Any of the shrimp dishes are worth while. Super fun atmosphere -- there are about 2500 bottles of hot sauce on the wall and live craw-fish doing battle on the end of the bar (most nights). Mixed drinks are brutally expensive... a martini was $9.00.

The Bongo Room Chicago, IL
The Sunday Brunch is awesome. The Bongo Room gives "toast" a run for it's money. The eggs benedict are superb, so is the rest of the menu. Get there early or wait in line.
Sullivan's Steakhouse Chicago, IL
The Kansas City strip steak is the way to go. It was one of the most flavorful steaks I've ever had. I normally don't like onion rings, but the rings here are dynamite. I suggest you sit in the upstairs bar after dinner. Very nice leather couches, tastefully decorated and intimate for a bar.
Le Bouchon Chicago, IL
An authentic French Bistro. I've only ever ordered from the specials list, and have yet to be dissapointed. The last visit I had the Salmon, and it was the best I've ever experienced. The main menu reflects the Chef's Burgundy region training. The wine list is suprisingly good -- ask for the reserve list if you don't see what you like. I strongly suggest reservations.
Cafe Iberico Chicago, IL
The tappas are good, but overpriced. You are better off sitting at the bar and nursing a couple pitchers of Sangria. It's a bit noisy and your are a bit crammed in with their cafeteria style seating. If you really want to try Tappas at a more reasonable price, go to Emilio's.
Nick's Fishmarket Chicago, IL
Great place to dine with someone special. Bring your plastic and wear your sunday best. The menu selection is good and the good is great. The staff is very professional and accommodating. This is a good choice if you have theater tickets to the Oriental.
Wishbone Chicago, IL
A good choice for either Saturday night cajun food or Sunday morning breakfast.
If you go for breakfast, get there by 9:30 at the latest, otherwise you have 30-45 minute wait. The food is good and they serve some "off-beat" items. If you like to try different meals, this is a good place. If you just want plain eggs and hash browns, don't waste your money.
Rosebud Cafe Chicago, IL
One word -- YUMMY!
Don't eat lunch before you go, the helpings are huge, and very tasty. I suggest ordering one entre' for every two people. I'm a big eater, and I always have plenty to take home. This is one of those places that you don't make after dinner plans. The food is so good and there is so much of it, it is difficult not to over eat.
Club Lucky Chicago, IL
This is a fun, high energy resturaunt. The food is pretty simple, but very good. I suggest the Melrose Salad as an appetizer. The fresh baked loaf of bread is outstanding. The decor is out of 1968, (Greg Brady architect) but it's well kept and amusing. If you are looking for a hip, snotty italian place with white table cloths, this is not your place to dine. If you are looking for fun, this is a good place.
Cucuina Bella Chicago, IL
If you can't afford Charlie Trotters table in the kitchen, this is the place to go. I've only ever eaten in the kitchen and each time it is outstanding. I hate deciding what to eat, this way, the chef prepares a little of everything for you, and she is a dynamite chef. She even gave us some cooking tips! Ever wonder what it would be like to eat the entire dessert tray? Well, if you have six people at your table, your table gets the whole thing to share. The kitchen decor is like my Grandmother's kithchen in the 60's. But I was past that as soon as the food was served.
