| Malnati's Lou Pizzeria Restaurants | Chicago, IL | |
|
Definatly Chicago Pizza at its best! This unique sauce-on-top
pizza is one of the most flavorful I have had and most anything
goes well on. It is esspecially good for vegetarians, or people
dining with vegetarian because you never miss the meat when you
eat their pizza. I say that their "buttercrust" is a must when
ordering here. It adds crisp to their pan-style pizza, so rather
than having an obscenely chewy thick crust, their's is crispy
on the outside chewy on the inside. And if you have room after the
pizza; the Chocolate Chip Cookie Pizza is scumpous. It is so fresh,
warm and chewy--it is the perfect end to a great evening at Lou's.

| Maggianos Little Italy | Chicago, IL | |
|
The food at Maggiano is really great. The food isn't cheap but
the the portions are huge and tasy--great if you like leftovers
(They even package them with reheating instructions). My favorites
are the gnochi in the wonderfully smooth Tomato Vodka Sauce and
the pasta bowl with eggplant and other vegetables. Despite the
great food, the wait for a table is terrible!! My wait time has
varied anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours (no less), and reservations
are very difficult to get for small groups on weekends.

| Uncle Julio's Hacienda | Chicago, IL | |
|
Very authentic Mexican--one of the best joints in the city. The
atmosphere is very nice and fun. Their salsa is nearly perfect!
GReat for any little craving--not heavy or greasy.

| Ed Debevic's Short Orders Deluxe | Chicago, IL | |
|
Despite how the waitstaff is told to act, I feel it is a waste of
one's money to pay to be treated badly. The staff here walks the
fine line between entertainment and being rude, and to often
they slip out of there entertaining moods and are just plain rude.
There food isn't too expensive, but it also isn't that good. If
I wanted a good burger than I would go to a really burger joint like
R.J. Grunts rather than this place--it is too much of a tourist
trap!

| Rock Bottom Brewery | Chicago, IL | |
|
The appetizers here were quite tasty, but I would say that that
was the higlight of the meal. I am not a beer drinker, but the people
I ate with thought that the beer was a little bit potent. The entrees
were mediocre. It seems like a great place for a Happy Hour.

| Lou Mitchell's | Chicago, IL | |
|
This place was great. The staff was so friendly you would think
it was a small town diner! And the food was great and filling. The
omelettes were simple and scrumptious. A great start to any morning.

| Parthenon | Chicago, IL | |
|
This place really has personality! The food seems very authenic
and overall tasty. THe flaming cheese appetizer was a great food
and a wonderful way to strike up a conversation with your dinner
date (not much is more stunning than tasty cheese en flambeau).
The only thing I had here that I didn't really care for was a lukewarm
soup that tasted like egg and lemon.

| Nookies | Chicago, IL | |
|
Great breakfast! Especially the spinach pie and crepes. Not
only is it great for breafast but also for late-night milkshakes,
a simply delectable snack after a night on the town.

| Leona's Italian Lemonade Sandwiches & Lemonad ... | Chicago, IL | |
|
The sandwich had too little flavor and too much turkey--seemed
like a space filler. The pasta was okay, nothing special by any
standards. And the service was awful.

| Thai 55th Restaurant | Chicago, IL | |
|
Great Thai food adn a simply atmosphere make this a great lunch
or late night spot. It isn't fancy but it is definatly special.
I would say it is one of the great Hyde Park eateries.

||
| Noodles, Etc. | Chicago, IL | |
|
Simply, cheap, really good Thai food. They have something for
everybody, and everything on the menu is quality. they also have
a new location on 57th street, both locations are within Hyde
Park and very close to the University of Chicago.

| Reza's | Chicago, IL | |
|
The food here is really great, although not what I would consider
a vegetarian restaurant. Their veggies are good, but I would
say that the highlight of the meal was the perfectly cooked beef
and chicken kabobs. Large portions are big enough to feed two
people or one person for 2 to 3 meals. The soup is also wonderful--very
rich--a must for anybody sick or feeling blue!

| Uncle Petes | Moline, IL | |
|
After living in the QCA for 15 years, and eating at Uncle Pete's
most of that time; I can safely say the Uncle Pete's is the only
good place for gyros around. It is cheap and the gyros and snwichs
are huge! Even if you aren't a fan of gyros they have other great
entrees on the menu like the Club which it stuffed with meats and
cheeses! This place is spectacular for carry out after work.
Kids and Adults alike will love this place after they try it.

| Whiteys Ice Cream Stores | Moline, IL | |
|
Again Whitey's is the world's best ice cream. It was a staple of
my upbringing in the QCA, and it must be tries by anyone who visits.
It is much richer and tastier than even Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
If i had to pick a favorite food from my childhood home, this would
most certainly be it!

| Maid Rite | East Moline, IL | |
|
Maid-Rite, simply idea--brown meat and put it on a bun with a pickle
and some mustard. This restaurant, built on the shoulders of
this recipe, was at one time a classy diner style restaurant where
you took a date when you 13 years old to get a Maid-rite and a Chocolate
milkshake. Personally, I think the memory of a 50's diner is the
only shining star left in it. Anybody who can brown meat can make
this sandwich, and there isn't anything else to the restaurant
anymore--it haas made the basic switch from diner to fast food.

||
| Belgian Village Inn | Moline, IL | |
|
This place is the BEST for Reubans and other German style sandwichs,
I wouldn't know about anything else on the menu because the Reubans
are irrestiable. they are HUGE--they leave leftovers everytime
I eat one. The rye bread is very good, but it is the raisen rye bread
that takes the cake.

| Iowa Machine Shed | Davenport, IA | |
|
This is the epitome of down home country eating in a restaurant
setting. I don't believe I have ever eaten anything that I didn't
like here, except that once the bread was so-so. Everything tastes
SO freash, wonderful cottage and coleslaw before the meal leading
into large well-rounded entrees and nearly irrestible deserts.
No matter what is order, pleasure is sure to follow. My personal
favorite is the burnt ends--pulled pork and beef in the Sheds
Sweet and Savory BBQ sauce.
