| Hooters | Albany, NY | |

Myself and my daughter went here because we were in the mall and had tried
the other restaurants already and wanted something different. Seems
if you are not male the wait staff isn't that friendly, although
maybe it was just our servers. Food was ok, not great, not worth going
back again for any time soon.

| Londonderry Cafe | Albany, NY | |
|
So, we happened upon this place because it was just a couple minutes
from our hotel in a small shopping center (Stuyvesant Plaza). It was
pouring rain, so we were not able to sit outside, but I can see where that
would be very nice. We had lunch there, sandwiches, and they were great.
Not a chain, so that was nice for a change. We will return on our next visit
to Albany in a few weeks.

| Sutters Mill & Mining Co | Albany, NY | |
|
Went for burgers on the recommendation of some medical school students,
and although they weren't as great as some burgers we get here in
San Francisco, they were ok. It's not the kind of place I'd
go back to, but students seem to congregate there so it must have something.
Going back to Albany in a couple weeks, but have no plans on returning
to this place.

| Houlihan's Restaurant | Albany, NY | |
|
Well, this restaurant is still in business in the Crossgates Mall,
and still busy as it's a pretty popular place, but I was not that
impressed. I was in Albany for a week and happened on this restaurant
as it's in a huge shopping center. There is a food court, and a few
other choices. The service was ok, not great, and the food was mediocre.
I doubt we will go back when we are in Albany in a few weeks again.

| La Scala | Burlingame, CA | |
|
Recently went here for lunch with my daughter. We had a waitress who
was not Italian and who could not speak or understand English that well,
and she did not do a good job. She spilled water onto our bread while pouring
it and even though we asked her to replace it, she never did. That was
just one of many mistakes she made. With that said, the food was ok. We
started out with an appetizer of bruscheta which was actually quite
good. I ordered the eggplant parmesean, and although it was good, it
did not taste very Italian. The sauce was bland. My daughter had the
chicken canneloni and she said it tasted as if chicken salad were stuffed
inside of it, and not very good chicken salad. I doubt we will return.
There are tons of restaurants on Burlingame Avenue to choose from.

| Kincaids Bayhouse | Burlingame, CA | |
|
This is a fabulous place to go for drinks and appetizers. They have every
drink imaginable, and the appetizers are the best around. We tend to
skip the dinner because the appetizers are filling and excellent,
but if the restaurant is really crowded you can order from the full menu
in the bar and eat there. They have plenty of tables and it's quite
comfortable. The dinners here are good also, expensive, and not quite
as good as some steak/fish places in SF, but comparable, also comparable
in price. There is ample free parking which is a plus, and the views of
the bay are delightful. Service has always been very good here also.
It's not cheap though, so if you are looking for inexpensive, this
is not the place for you.

| Curbside Cafe | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This is a wonderful little restaurant close to Fillmore Street in San
Francisco. I discovered it about 6 years ago, and whenever I am in the
neighborhood I go there to eat. Everything on the menu is good here from
the cheeseburger (one of the best I've had) to appetizers, salads,
and entrees. They are large portions, cooked exactly how you like them.
The chocolate mousse is one of the best I've tried. The prices are
reasonable for the quality of food. I recommend this place highly.
Try breakfast or brunch there too..you can't go wrong!

| Houston's | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This restaurant is great! Had a birthday dinner here recently and for
some reason they kept getting our order wrong (very unlike this place).
Anyway, to make a long story short they said they would adjust the bill,
and adjust they did! The whole dinner, from cocktails to dessert was
on the house! We didn't expect it, but that's the mark of a great
restaurant. We have gone there often and will continue to go there because
of how we were treated. Besides that, the food is always good...portions
are ample and you never go away hungry. The burgers and steaks are great,
along with so many other things. It's very crowded on the weekends,
so reservations are required, well, they are most of the time. The bar
is large, so have a drink, relax and wait for an enjoyable evening of
food.

| Ruth's Chris Steak House | Beverly Hills, CA | |
|
Down in LA for a college graduation and wanted to go somewhere special
for dinner to celebrate. Ruth's Chris was FANTASTIC! From the
moment we sat down to the moment we left the service was excellent. We
ordered appetizers which were great. We had a party of 7 and we had drinks,
wine, entrees, sides and dessets and the bill was around $700, but worth
every mouthful. The steaks come on plates sizzling with butter which
makes them extra delicious. The sides, from creamed spinach, asaparagus
with hollandais sauce, sweet potatoes encrusted with pecans and au
gratin potatoes were all marvelous. The desserts were good, but the
winner in that category was the cheesecake. I recommend this restaurant
highly if you want first class service, first class food and a totally
enjoyable evening. There is street parking, but there is also a valet.
We will definitely go again.

| Denny's | Gustine, CA | |
|
This Denny's is far better than Anderson's Pea Soup which
is right across the highway on Highway 5. Driving down to the southern
CA area we always seem to stop at this same Denny's for breakfast
or lunch and it's always good. The service is fast, the food is Denny's
food (not great, but not bad either) and it's a very convenient
stop on the drive down or up Highway 5. Just across the way is Anderson's
Pea Soup, but every time we have eaten there we have been very disappointed.

| Marie Callender's | Los Angeles, CA | |
|
Ok, so it's a Marie Callender's, but it's a good one! The
service at this particular restaurant is very good, the staff friendly
and the food pretty good. We were there just last week and had everything
from salads to burgers to desserts and everyone was satisfied..not
one complaint. Soo..for a chain restaurant it's pretty consistent
and pretty good. We'd definitely go again. The pies are always
good here, as they are at all the chains of this restaurant.

| Canter's Fairfax Restaurant Delicatessen & Ba ... | Los Angeles, CA | |
|
Ok, so I was just down in LA in March and rated this place, but was there
again mid June so felt the need to rate it again. This is my favorite deli
in Los Angeles, and actually, in CA. Living in SF we have Max's,
but LA has a few of which Canter's is, in my humble opinion, the best.
I had potatoe pancakes, which were to die for. The matzah ball soup is
better than any you can make and the sandwiches are big enough for two
meals. The bakery is fantastic...we never leave to come back to SF without
buying bagel chips and egg twist, and this last time we bought some sweets
too. This place never disappoints. I recommend it highly.

| Daphne's Greek Cafe | Daly City, CA | |
|
This little cafe opened up just a week or so ago in the Westlake Shopping
Center in Daly City. I went in and ordered the appetizer of Spanakopita
and was pleasanty surprised by it's quality. I received 4 spanakopita,
8 little slices of pita bread, and three dipping sauces...well, one
was hummus, one was a cucumber/sour cream mix and one was a hotter one,
but I'm not sure what it was called. It cost $6.49 plus tax and I could
not even finish it. It was great though and I'm anxious to go back
and try some other menu items. They are apparently a chain type fast
food place, but this is the first one I am aware of in the SF area.
|
||
| Max's On the Square | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This is yet another one of Max's restaurants in the SF area and it's
great. It has the same menu as the others, something for every taste,
and it's right across from the downtown theaters, so it's
very convenient to go have dinner there before or after a performance.
The desserts are to die for..my favorite being the Niagara Falls Cake,
and their chicken matzah ball soup is divine. Every entree I've
had here has been good, the service is good, but some waiters are better
than others. I recommend this place to tourists all the time along with
Max's Opera Plaza..both give you generous portions of good food.

| Boulevard | San Francisco, CA | |
|
Wonderful restaurant! Went last night for my Mom's birthday,
and we were not disappointed. Our server, Kevin, was one of the best
we have ever had...attentive, but not pretentious or overbearing.
We shared an appetizer, the scallops, which were done to perfection.
We had the filet mignon (excellent), the duck which I was told was the
best she had ever eaten, and the prime rib pork chop which was also superb.
Desserts were also exceptional. We had the 3 choices, one chocolate,
one strawberry shortcake and one cheesecake and they were also presented
beautifully and tasted great! Dinner is pricey, but so worth it as the
food and service are excellent. I will definitely be going here again.
Oh, two other things. There is a flat rate valet parking cost of $10 for
dinner (reasonable) and if you have a reservation, they don't
keep you waiting which is unheard of in SF!

| Viognier | San Mateo, CA | |
|
Went for lunch here the other day and was very impressed with the wait
service. They anticipate your every whim, which is quite nice. The
food, although good, was not quite as good as some of the restaurants
in San Francisco. I felt it was a bit overpriced for what I had, yet it
was cooked well, just not very big portions. I don't know that I'd
go again with all the wonderful choices in SF to choose from.

| Amici's East Coast Pizzeria | San Mateo, CA | |
|
Wow, I see this restaurant has not been reviewed in a few years. I was
just there, yesterday, May 17, 2006, and it still is as good as ever.
I am not a fan of thin crust pizza, but now I think I'm a convert. The
crust is excellent and the pizzas are delicious. I had an artichoke
heart, feta cheese, sun dried tomatoe pizza and it was one of the best
I've ever had. I shared a salad with someone which tasted like it
was just out of someone's garden. Service was excellent, and there
is street parking (meters that still give you 30 minutes for 25 cents...amazing).
I'd recommend this place to anyone for a great meal!

| Villa Italian Restaurant | Culver City, CA | |
|
Just had occasion to go to this restaurant a couple weeks ago in April,
2006. We happened upon it just by driving around and looking for somewhere
to eat where there were not too many places. They do have free parking,
so that was nice. We were all very hungry, ordering first soup, salads
and garlic bread. They were all ok, but nothing to rave about. We had
spaghetti (just ok), raviolis (just ok) and eggplant parmesean which
was excellent. I guess coming from San Francisco and having all the
wonderful Italian restaurants here I am a bit spoiled. This restaurant
had a nice homey feel to it, was very casual and the service was good and
the people very friendly. I would go back, perhaps.

| George Petrelli Famous Steak House | Culver City, CA | |
|
Down in LA about two weeks ago and my son recommended this restaurant
so we went. We were pleasantly surprised. We all had steaks of one variety
or the other. I had a filet mignon which rivals most any I have had anywhere
else. The "chocolate souffle" for dessert is excellent,
as well as the cheesecake. Dinners include soup and salad which were
both great. Service was excellent as well. Parking was ample. We went
on a week night, so we had no wait, but I can imagine that on weekends this
place gets busy, although it is a bit off the beaten path. We will definitely
go to this restaurant on our next trip down to Los Angeles.

| Literati Cafe | Los Angeles, CA | |
|
This is a great place! Shared a pot of tea (they have all kinds) and a fresh
turkey sandwich served on foccachia bread which was excellent. There
are a lot of coffees and teas to choose from, as well as a breakfast menu,
desserts aplenty. It's a cafe/coffeehouse/teahouse with ample
seating right on Wilshire Boulevard not far from UCLA. When we were
there it was filled with what seemed to be a lot of students, people reading
and just relaxing. Parking is $2.00 with validation which is great
because there is no parking on the block where this is, and Wilshire
is hard to park on anyway. It's a relaxing place to go to just chat
and enjoy great food. I highly recommend it.
