| Fish Market | San Mateo, CA | |

Maybe it's because I am used to great fish restaurants in San Francisco
like Scoma's, but this restaurant was a bit of a disappointment.
We sat outside, which was lovely. We ordered a shrimp louis and a crab
louis, and we were told by our waiter that the portions were very large.
Well, he was sooo wrong. The salads were ok. The seafood was fresh and
good, but it was a rather small portion. The tomatoe was soft, and the
lettuce was a mix of greens that we did not care for. Everyone there seemed
to be enjoying themselves, but for my money I'd much rather go to
a good seafood restaurant in SF.

| Patxi's | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I have read tons of excellent reviews about this place, so decided to
go with 3 friends. They serve Chicago style pizza and thin crust pizza,
a few salads and drinks. That's it. It's a very casual place,
and the wait service is friendly and good. The pizza, on the other hand,
I did not like. The best pizza we have ever had was in Chicago at Giordano's.
It's the best Chicago style deep dish pizza, and I was told that
Patxi's (Pah-cheese) made pizza like Giordano's. It was,
in fact, deep dish (not quite like Giordano's. The fillig was lacking,
the tomato sauce was way too thick and the cornmeal crust, that everyone
raved about, I thought was awful. To me it tasted like cardboard..hard
and with no flavor whatsoever. We will not go back, but the place was
crowded and everyone else seemed to be enjoying their pizzas. If you
read that it compares to Giordanos, it does not.

| Secret Garden | San Francisco, CA | |

This is a pretty new (4 years old) English tea house right in San Francisco.
It is charming. I am a fan of another English tea house in San Francisco
called Lovejoy's, but this one is very nice also. Parking is the
main problem near this place, right across from Golden Gate Park and
in the very popular 9th and Irving eating and shopping area. Anyway,
the tea choices are not as plentiful as Lovejoys, but we ended up having
a vanilla tea which was quite good. We chose the "Bedford's
Delight" which was a tea service which included 6 seasonal tea
sandwiches which were quite good, a scone with devonshire cream and
jam (we ordered a second scone for $3.95 as there were 2 of us), one tiny
little "savory" which appeared to me to be a phyllo dough
with some sort of meat mixture inside (quite good), and either the dessert
of the day or "mini tea pastries" which we chose. It consisted
of a tiny, tiny napoleon, a cream puff, a fruit cake and a date/chocolate
bar which were all very good. Total cost was less than $30 with tip, and
they did not rush us so we sat and chatted a couple hours. They do have
a light lunch menu and other tea plate choices, and you can order scones,
etc., a la carte. It is an English tea house, but no one working there
was British. If you find yourself over in that neighborhood I'd
recommend this place. We enjoyed it and will return.

| Boboquivaris | San Francisco, CA | |

I rate this restaurant 2 stars because the steak is the best you can get
anywhere. I am a big fan of Ruth Chris, Harris', Alfreds...but
this filet mignon I had here was a cut above. That being said, there is
NOTHING else that is great at this restaurant. I read a ton of reviews
about it, some loved it, some hated it. If not for the steak, I would not
have liked it much either. We sat upstairs in a nice big booth (4 of us),
but it was a very small room and there was a party of about 20 or more at
a big long table right in front of us. There was one other table with about
5 people at it. Anyway, we ordered drinks, one appetizer (2 tiny crab
cakes for $12), had wine with dinner, had 3 sides and 1 dessert (supposedly
a chocolate cake with raspberry, but it ended up being some orange liquor
and when I told the waitress, her only comment was "oh"..."
The bill was about $450. Not worth it. Everything on this menu is a la
carte. The filet mignon was $39, and well worth it, but the sides were
awful. The filet on the bone was exceptional. The other steaks were
just as good. I was told the onion rings were the best in town, and for
$7 we got 4 small onion rings that were not good, an ice cream scoop sized
portion of what they called a baked yam with brown sugar butter, but
it tasted like a plain baked yam, with no brown sugar or butter. The mushrooms
were passable, but extremely salty. The sides at Ruth Chris are large
and people can share (and they are delicious)...they were small here,
but they were so boring we didn't even eat them. The dessert, a chocolate
cake which was supposed to be chocolate with raspberry sauce ended
up having some orange flavored liquor I did not like, and when I mentioned
it to the waittress, all she said was "oh". We are all native
San Franciscans and we had never been to this restaurant before and
we will never go back. There are so many other EXCELLENT choices in the
city...steer clear of here unless you only want to eat the steak, because
it is superb!

| Wolfgang Puck Express | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I love to eat here when I'm downtown. It's in the Cellar at Macy's
along with a few other places like Boudin, etc. Everything I have eaten
here has been good. I usually go for the half salad as it's huge,
and the BBQ chicken is my favorite, but anything here is good. I've
also had roasted chicken which was tender and good too. It's not
the cheapest fast food you can get there, but it's inexpensive
and good.

| Chapeau! | San Francisco, CA | |
|
Finally got reservations for this place after hearing so many good
things about it, but we were disappointed. It is so very crowded and
the noise level is awful. We had to practically yell to be heard. The
food is good, but they are very snobby at this place. Took us a long time
to get a reservation, and even when we said it was a special occasion
they could have cared less. There are a lot of places in SF where the food
is better, the service people much nicer and the noise level is not an
issue. We will not go back.

| North Beach Restaurant | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I'm not sure why someone said this place has horrible service,
but they must have hit an off night. We've never had that problem
here. The food is excellent and the service is good. If you want some
good old Italian style food, try this restaurant. Veal is excellent,
along with everything else. It's in a very busy area of North Beach,
but they have valet parking. We went to Beach Blanket Babylon afterwards
and the valet let us park there for dinner and the show.

| Manor Room | Pacifica, CA | |
|
Ordered pizza from this restaurant 2 nights ago after reading some
reviews on the net about it. Had a large BBQ chicken with mushrooms,
which was huge. There wasn't a lot of chicken or mushrooms on the
pizza, but the taste was great. The crust is some of the best pizza crust
I have ever tasted, aside from Giordano's in Chicago. I will definitely
order pizza from here again. Oh, and they said it would take about an
hour and the pizza arrived piping hot in just 30 minutes.

| Nick's Restaurant | Pacifica, CA | |
|
Went here just recently for a late lunch and was not that impressed.
The location is nice, but you can't sit outside and enjoy the ocean,
so that was a bit disappointing. The hot garlic bread is good, but it's
not SF sourdough, so it's not great. The service was ok, but the
food is less than thrilling and it's expensive for what it is. It
does look like there is a nice dance floor and a big bar, so may be fun to
come some night and dance if the fog isn't too heavy. I don't
think we will go there again to eat..we were disappointed.

| Seal Rock Inn Restaurant | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This is a good place for breakfast any day of the week. Omlettes run about
$7.50 to $8.50 and are good. They are served with hash browns and your
choice of toast. I like the Patty Melt here, which is served with fries
and it is about $7.00. Food is ok, not great, but not bad either, and it's
very inexpensive. You seat yourself usually and you can sit with a view
of the Pacific Ocean. On a nice day they have the windows open. Weekends
for brunch get very crowded, but weekdays there is no problem getting
in usually and there is a lot of free street parking.

| Alfred's Steakhouse | San Francisco, CA | |
|
Went to Alfreds on June 6th for dinner. There is free validated parking
right next door at the hotel, but we choose to valet park it there for
$10. The food here is and has always been excellent. Three of us had dinner
here for around $200, as opposed to around $400 for two at Gary Danko.
We had drinks, wonderful shrimp appetizers, and filet mignon, new
york and rib eye steaks that were cooked to perfection. The quality
of the food is excellent as well as the service. We had creme brulee,
cheesecake and a chocolate raspberry cake for dessert, also all excellent.
They also have a very large single malt scotch menu and surprisingly,
some were very inexpensive. This is a very elegant restaurant that
is good for any occasion, they even have a couple prixed fix dinners
that are 3 courses for only around $38. I recommend this restaurant
highly and will definitely be going back soon.

| Nick`s | Pacifica, CA | |
|
Ok, so this restaurant has been around for 80 years, but I had never been
there. Went around 2 for lunch, ample parking right by the ocean, but
no outside seating as I'm sure it's foggy here a good part of
the time. Seems they have a rather large bar and a nice sized dance floor
on one side, and a nice size restaurant on the other. We had one of the
specials which was a grilled sworfish, served with fresh veggies and
rice, but we substituted sliced tomatoes..$18.95. Swordfish was
cooked well. The other entree was their eggplant parmesean, which
the waitress said was GREAT, but it was rather disappointing. The eggplant
was nice and tender, but the sauce tasted like it was from out of a jar
and the cheese looked like processed cheese rather than fresh. There
was not enough sauce or cheese and it didn't taste very Italian.
It was served with a whole roasted clove of garlic which was the best
part of the meal if you like garlic. Cost was $14.95. So, lunch with two
iced teas, for two, was a tad under $45 which I think is way too much for
the quality of the food, but then again, maybe we just chose the wrong
things. They have a large lunch menu with many burgers, pastas, sandwiches,
etc.

| Scoma's | San Francisco, CA | |
|
Have been going to Scoma's for about 30 years and I have never been
disappointed. It's a bit pricey, but the quality of the food is
excellent. They have the best deal in town for a great seafood lunch,
but if you want you can have a steak too. For $21 you get fresh fresh frenchbread
and breaksticks, a choice of a ceasar salad or clam chowder, 4 or 5 entrees,
but I always have the small(very large!) crab salad with chunks and
chunks of fresh crab and the chef's dessert, which more often than
not has been this delicious slice (small, but you are full by this time)
of a chocolate fudgey torte. The lunch is excellent, they have plenty
of valet parking at lunch time and it's worth the drive to the Wharf.
Weekends can get very crowded, so I stay away then.

| Ristaurant Placere | San Carlos, CA | |
|
This is the second time we have eaten at this restaurant in San Carlos.
It's right on the main street, and on a warm day they have outside
seating which is quite nice. There is ample street parking. Anyway,
the food is excellent. Our starter was a crab salad which was quite good,
served with avocado and grapefruit pieces...odd combination, but
it works. The entrees are not large, but plenty to eat. I had seared scallops
in a meyer lemon sauce which were some of the best I've ever eaten.
They were served with sliced, sauteed shitake mushrooms which were
also excellent. The mashed potatoes were fresh, good, but not outstanding.
The person I was with had the lamb chops, cooked to perfection, with
spinach and a puree of some squashes which was quite good. A glass of
wine will run you about 9+ dollars, but they have a nice selection. Dinner
for two was about $100 including tip, we had no dessert.

| Rainforest Cafe | San Francisco, CA | |
|
Two years have passed and we went back to The Rainforest Cafe for a 13
year old's birthday. Even at that age the kids still enjoyed it.
We had great drinks (alcoholic) and appetizers. The entres were large,
good and reasonably priced. Even though it is a "tourist trap"
type of restaurant, we still enjoyed it and will probably go back in
another couple of years.

| Boulevard Cafe | Daly City, CA | |
|
Went back after not going for about a year and a half and was pleasantly
surprised. Had lunch this time, a patty melt, and it was delicious.
Cooked rare like I asked and served on a marbled rye bread. The person
with me had fish and chips and loved it. Large portion with a hefty amount
of fries. My fries came cold, so they brought me a new plate of them, enough
for 3 people. Now I'm anxious to go back and try dinner. They have
enlarged the menu quite a bit since they first opened and they seem to
be always busy, so they must be doing something right. The coupons they
keep sending out I am sure in increasing business too.

| Outback Steakhouse | Daly City, CA | |
|
The Outback is a chain restaurant and, that being said, it is still a
pretty good option if you want a steak that won't break the bank!
We started off with wine (reasonably priced for a full glass instead
of just a little with a large price!) and the crab/lobster appetizer.
They were ok, not outstanding, 2 on the plate. I didn't taste the
lobster at all, so was a bit disappointed. $8.99 was an ok price for these.
Salads are included as part of the dinner and mine was delicious. I had
the blue cheese pecan chopped salad and I loved it. I also had the Simply
Grilled filet steak which was quite good. I asked for it rare and it came
very rare. It is served with rice, which I don't like, so I got a huge
mound of fresh garlic (didn't taste it) mashed potatoes. The filet
steak was on a skewer which had mushrooms, red peppers, red onions and
zucchini. It actually was quite good. I would recommend this place
if you want a steak but don't want to spend Ruth's Chris prices!

| Roxy Delicatessen | New York, NY | |
|
Went here late one night after the theater and ordered cheese blintzes
which are some of the best ones I've ever had. I was served 3 blintzes,
stuffed with cheese, and half the plate was covered with fruit. It was
excellent. Went there another night to get cheesecake and chocolate
cake. The cheesecake was much better than Junior's and the chocolate
cake was so huge I could only eat about a third of it. The rest of the food
being served looked great too...large portions and ok prices for NYC.
I'd recommend it and I would definitely go back for a late night
bite after the theater or for dessert.

||
| Junior's Restaurant | New York, NY | |
|
I must say we were terribly disappointed in this restaurant. Located
right near the Broadway theaters in Manhattan, this place relies on
it's name rather than it's food or service to attract customers.
The place was crowded, but it's large so the wait isn't long.
The service was horrible. To get a refill on water or coffee was almost
impossible although there is plenty of wait staff around. Our sandwiches
were substandard, not very large and not very tasty. We ordered cheesecake,
because Junior's is famous for it's cheesecake, and I think
the cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory is much better. We will never
go back there again while in NYC.

| Charley O's | New York, NY | |
|
We stopped here for drinks and appetizers before a Broadway show. It's
conveniently located within minutes from Times Square and right on
Broadway. We had portobello stuffed mushrooms with a cheesey mix of
some sort inside and they were delicious. They came with a red dipping
sauce, like a marinera sauce. The drinks were good, nothing special
though. This is a restaurant, but since we did not eat there I cannot
comment on the rest of the food.
