| Johnny Rockets - Reno Hilton | Reno, NV | |
|
Johnny Rockets is the same no matter where you go. Hamburgers
are good, not great, but good, fries are ok, shakes are good. The
only thing I don't like about this particular Johnny Rockets
is that it is all the way down at one end of the huge casino, away
from where most anything is going on, which, I guess is not such
a bad thing because it is away from loud noises, etc. It's
a good place to go to get a light meal that doesn't cost that
much and is satisfying. I am actually glad they put this restaurant
in the casino.

| Benihana Japanese Steakhouse | Reno, NV | |
|
Benihana is pretty much the same no matter where you go. I found
this one to be on a par with the one in San Francisco's Japan
Town, although I think that one is a bit nicer. The service was
good and the food is what you would expect...cooked at your table
with a lot of "show" from the person preparing it.
I was with a party of four and there was another couple sharing
the table with us who were having saki shots and getting rather
drunk. The tables are large so you do not have initmate dinners
of two or four, you usually share with others that you do not know
if your party is not large enough to fill a table. Overall though
it was a nice place to go...but I am not sure if I'd go there
again.

| Barney's | Oakland, CA | |
|
Had occasion to go to Barney's a couple days ago, July, 2005,
and thought it was great. There is a Barney's in SF that is
as good, but the weather is not nearly as nice. I say it's $10
to $15 because by the time you add drinks and something like the
wonderful fried mushrooms, along with a tip, it ends up being
$25 to $30 for 2 people, but well worth it. I had the BBQ burger which
came with cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce and it was cooked rare, to
perfection. The service was great too! If you want a super burger,
try Barney's..and I don't know why they say it's
a BAR, it's a burger place.

| Outback Steakhouse | Dublin, CA | |
|
This is a chain restaurant, but one of the best. The service at
this one was excellent, the filet mignon I had melted in my mouth,
and the vegetables were crisp, and not overdone. We had the fried
zucchini for an appetizer and it was wonderful. We did not have
any dessert, but the dinner was so filling that we chose to pass
on it. We would definitely go back to this Outback and any others
we have tried.

| Chevys Mexican Restaurant | Pleasanton, CA | |
|
Chevy's is a chain as we all know, but this particular Chevy's
is not one of the best. Our orders came, but were not up to the standards
we expected, so we probably won't go back. The service was
ok, but the food was slow in getting to us and when it did get to us
it was less than great. There are some good Chevy's, but this
one is not is not one of them.

| Sundance Mine Company | Palo Alto, CA | |
|
This is great restaurant. It's a bit dark, but that really
didn't matter. The menu is abundant, with great steaks,
chicken, etc. I had the filet mignon, which was not the best I have
ever had, but then again I was comparing it to some of the great
SF steak houses. I would go back if I were in the neighborhood,
but the parking was not easy, so I suggest not going on a weekend
night.

| Sweeney | Brentwood, CA | |
|
This is a small, local lunch and dinner restaurant. The seafood
and chicken are what you would go to this restaurant for. Any pasta
and seafood combination is good here. I have had several. The
portions are large, so go with a big appetite. Service here is
very good which makes for a more enjoyable meal.

| Dennys Restaurant | Anaheim, CA | |
|
Went here after a long, long day at Disneyland. We weren't
sure we'd find any place open, and Denny's was. I'm
not a big Denny's fan, but they have added some new items to
their menu and also have low carb options. They also seem to be
more than willing to accommodate any picky eaters, so everyone
got exactly what they wanted which was nice. I think this Denny's
does a very good job considering they have tons of kids coming
in who are tired and probably very hungry. Breakfasts are great
at Denny's...and now the lunches seem to be better too.

| T G I Fridays | San Bruno, CA | |
|
I used to love TGI Friday's, but for some reason the quality
of food and service has just not been up to snuff the last few years.
This particular TGI Friday's is not one of the best. We went
for lunch..which was below average. The last time we went for
dinner the service was extremely slow, the food quality ok, but
not great. If you want to go to a TGI Friday's in the Bay Area
I recommend the one on El Camino by Hillsdale, but overall I don't
recommend TGI Friday's at all.

| Alfred's Steakhouse | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This is one of my favorite and one of the few old San Francisco restaurants.
We have been going here for over 30 years, and the food has always
been 5 star. The steaks are cooked to perfection, the sides are
wonderful and the service impeccable! I recommend this highly
to San Fanciscans and tourists alike. You will not be disappointed!

| Lakeside Cafe | San Francisco, CA | |
|
This is a better than average neighborood restaurant. They have
early bird dinners which seem to attract a large older crowd.
I've had both lunch and dinner here serveral times and the
food is consistent, good, but not great. If you want a good dinner,
at a reasonable price, this is a good place to try. There is seldom
a wait and service is pretty good also.

| Marcello's Restaurant | San Francisco, CA | |
|
I have been to this neighborhood restaurant several times and
have always had good food. I don't think of it as a seafood
restaurant though, more of an Italian restaurant that serves
seafood. For a complete dinner from soup/salad to coffee you
can't beat it for quality of food, excellent service and
nice atmosphere. The restaurant is not that bit, but not so small
that you feel you are cramped in. I gave my folks a 35th wedding
anniversary party here years ago on a Monday night. We took over
the whole restaurant and they could not have done a better job.
The food was again excellent, the service great and the evening
a big success!

| Westlake Coffee Shop | Daly City, CA | |
|
I am not a fan of this restaurant, but most everyone else likes
it for a simple breakfast or lunch. I've lived in the are for
26 years and this coffee shop has been around that long, probably
longer, so they must be doing something right. It is a typical
coffee shop with a very simple breakfast and lunch menu. What
I had there was not exceptional by any means, but was acceptable.
I guess if you are in the neighborhood and do not want to eat fast
food this would be your alternative.

| Baskin Robbins | Daly City, CA | |
|
I went to Baskin Robbins to order an ice cream cake for a dinner
party I was having. I ended up buying a small scoop of their ice
cream, which we all know is good, but not nearly as good as Cold
Stone Creamery. The quality is good, but it's expensive,
and as long as I'm spending a lot of money on ice cream I want
it to be exactly what I want and to taste great, so I choose Cold
Stone which I am going to add to this site. The ice cream cake was
made to order though, was excellent. I bought the small one that
serves 2-4 and it could have served 6 or so with small pieces.

| Spenger's Fish Grotto | Berkeley, CA | |
|
I think this will be the shortest review I have ever written. Went
here the other day for lunch while over in the East Bay. My memories
of Spengers are good ones...excellent food and service, but
I was disappointed with both on this last try. Seems the prices
are higher, the amount of food is less and the service passable.
I don't think I'll be making any special trips across
the bay to dine there in the near future.

| Cheese Board Pizza Collective | Berkeley, CA | |
|
Oh my goodness! I happened to be in Berkeley today and drove by
what was a very long line outside a tiny little pizza place. I had
no idea what it was, but figured since there was such a long line
it must be good. By the time I found a parking place (parking is
not easy) the line had gone down even though it was still around
12:45, lunch time. Apparently this is a co-op, and they only serve
one kind of pizza a day. Today it was spinach, pine nuts, two cheeses,
mushrooms, onions and a pinch of parsley. I have had pizza often,
and this was the first pizza that has reminded me of the pizza I
had in Italy..very thin, crisp crust, fresh as can be toppings
and a wonderful flavor. I would drive back across the Bay Bridge
just to get this pizza...excellent! I ordered 2 pieces, and they
give you about a quarter of a piece with that, and had a Snapple
and it came to under $6.00. If you had one piece of pizza it's
just $1.99.

| Sam's Anchor Cafe | Tiburon, CA | |
|
So I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars, but it's not for
the food. Sam's is a great place to go on a sunny day, when you
want to sit outside and watch people and enjoy the water sitting
out on their large deck. Be prepared to wait a long time if it's
a beautiful day. The food is average. Burgers are ok, as well as
most anything else, but nothing to rave about. We take tourists
there because Tiburon is a nice place to visit and this is a great
place to sit down and relax for a bit while enjoying the sunshine.

||
| Mel's Diner | Vacaville, CA | |
|
This Mel's Diner doesn't compare to the one in SF, and
I'm not sure if they are owned by the same people. This one
was ok, not great. The food wasn't very good as far as I am concerned
and the service was lacking. I guess I'm just spoiled by the
Mels in San Francisco. If you want a quick lunch while shopping
at the outlet stores those this is one place you can get it for a
decent price.

| T G I Fridays | San Mateo, CA | |
|
TGI Fridays is a chain restaurant, and like all chain restaurants,
some are better than others. This particular one has had it's
up and downs, and recently, well, over the last few years, it has
not been that great. The service has never been that great and
the food is mediocre, nothing that exceptional. I only go there
is I can think of nowhere else to go. It is about on par with the TGI
Fridays near Millbrae which is not very good either. I do not recommend
this chain to anyone.

||
| California Pizza Kitchen | San Mateo, CA | |
|
I happen to like California Pizza Kitchen. True, you don't
get a pizza with pepperoni, cheese and sauce like a regular pizza
restaurant, but you do get exceptionally good pizzas. The salads
here are great too! I usually go with a friend and we split a salad
and a pizza and that's plenty for two for lunch. My favorites
are the barbeque chicken pizza with the caesar salad. They do
have a bit of everything on this menu, and even a kids menu to choose
from, so it's a great casual lunch or dinner type restaurant
for the whole family.
