| El Charro Mexican Restaurant | Knoxville, TN | |
|
When I moved to Knoxville and asked people about Mexican food this it
where I was usually pointed. First of all, there is no flavor to anything.
Everything tastes the same because it is some combination of browned
beef (no seasonings), red sauce that tastes like pureed stewed tomatos,
tortillas and jack cheese. My combo platter was to include "chili
con queso", by deduction and a confused waiter we can only assume
this meant "tostada shell with thin layer of melted jack".
Queso? Yes. Chili? No. Chili con Queso? Not even close. To substitute
beans instead of beef is an extra charge!? It makes me worry about there
beef. No cumin, no paprika, no cheddar, no sour cream, bland salsa,
bland food. I went back to a friend that recommended it and he said, "But
it's cheap." How much is sanity worth these days?

| Fountain City Creamery | Knoxville, TN | |
|
The ice cream is great, but it is the Sunday brunch that makes this place
a must try. Everything is very good with the Crab Cakes Benedict (two
crab cakes topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce) being a
personal favorite. The waffles, gingerbread pancakes, and monte
christo are all very good. They also have a dish that is cinnamon apples
and raisens stuffed into a croissant and topped with whipped cream
and nuts that is worth a try. What more, every side dish is great: mini
potato cakes, sweet potato fries, cheese grits and steamed veggies
are all good. The only thing I probably won't have again are the
sausage links, but that's mostly personal preference. The service
has always been outstanding.

| Chez Guevara Restaurant | Knoxville, TN | |
|
As more and more restaurants go smoke-free, it really stands out when
one is laid out like this. You have to walk through the bar area to get
to the sitting area and the smoke permeates the place. If you make it
past that, the food is pretty good. I'm used to tex-mex, so the differences
stand out and this seems almost California-Mexican: blue corn, mushrooms,
seafood. That's not a bad thing as long as you know what you are in
for. Good service and salsa and a world better than El Charro. I missed
it the first time I went looking. It's in the corner of the Barnes
& Noble strip mall for you first-timers.

| Hedary's Lebanese Oven & Grill | Dallas, TX | |
|
Everything I've had is really good here. If this is your first
time, get the Mezza. It's a great appetizer for the whole table
and has a good sampling of the different cold dishes. The meats
are all very good as well...lamb, beef, sausage, and especially
he chicken..mmmmm... Also worth mentioning is the spinach and
cheese bread/pocket (I can't remember most of the names of the
foods...I order by description). Take a few friends and go hungry.
Order the Mezza, a meat combo plate or two, and a spinach cheese
bread...and everyone share!

| Ore House On the Plaza | Santa FE, NM | |
|
The ribs were extremely tender and just the right amount of spicy.
The Portobello Steak is a must-try for mushroom lovers! Everything
was great from the atmosphere to the service.

| Il Vicino Wood Oven Pizza | Santa FE, NM | |
|
When you go in, be sure to take a look at their special pizza of the
day...I was not disappointed!! This was pizza that made me sad
when I was full, because I couldn't eat any more.

| Plaza Restaurant | Santa FE, NM | |
|
We were lucky enough to have the most delightful waitress in New
Mexico serve us breakfast. You'll know who I'm talking about
if you've ever eaten there while she was working. The food was
great too! I had my very first chili relleno omelet and now I wish
I could get those where I live. We meant to go back for lunch but
ran out of time. Very enjoyable experience

| Guadalupe Cafe | Santa FE, NM | |
|
I am going to have to whole-heartedly agree with the other reviewer.
The lunch portions were very big and the food was great! I had the
roast beef burrito and a seafood enchilada. The burrito was strange,
because roast beef isn't a typical ingredient, but I was pleasantly
surprised. The seafood enchilada was superb...not sure how
I would be able to try other things on the menu when I would need
to get the seafood enchilada every time too!

| French Pastry Shop | Santa FE, NM | |
|
I guess for a French restaurant to be authentic the wait-staff
has to be a bit snooty? We just went in for crepes, though...maybe
if we were there to eat a full-blown meal we would have been treated
better. It felt like a meal, though, with each crepe costing about
$7. I know that it's not out-rageous, but it's not cheap either.
I also made the mistake of wanting water...it came out in what
was little more than a shot-glass. I would have been willing to
pay a little more and get three or even swallows worth. Don't bother
waiting for the bill, takes too long. the crepes were good but
not worth the hassle.

| Santa Fe Salsa Co Restaurant | Santa FE, NM | |
|
Everything a tried was excellent. The chili relleno, enchiladas,
and quesadillas were all outstanding. The highlghts though
are the salsas. With an entre, you get to sample 8 (maybe 10) different
salsas like Apple Curry, Santa Fe, Artichoke Heart, Roasted
Garlic, and Mango. They are all good, but I grew quite fond of the
Mango and a half-half mixture of the Santa Fe & Roasted Garlic.
The chips are a bit salty, but if you pile on the great salsas, you'll
barely notice.

| Chili's Griil and Bar | Arlington, TX | |
|
A Chili's like any other, nothing really stands out. Fortunately,
that isn't necessarily a bad thing. What prompted me to review
is their new boneless buffalo wings. VERY NICE!! Here's what
you do...order the Mombo Combo and have them switch-out regular
wings for the boneless ones. Sweet sweet combo! Southwest eggrolls
and chicken tenders round it out perfectly. (Also recommend:
chili's cheesesteak)

| Superior Grill | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
This is as good as Mexican food gets in Baton Rouge. Not the most
authentic, but that's not really why everyone is there, now is
it? The salsa is good, atmosphere is better, and the time spent
hanging out with friends is the best. Side note: my favorite place
to grab matches from on my way out.

||
| De Angelo's Pizzeria | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
Be sure to get the spicy Caesar salad...if you get the small, side
one it's big enough and strong enough to two people. It definitely
became a bit more up-scale when they moved to the end of the building.
It also got a lot more crowded as news has spread. Get there early.
All of their pizzas are great and made with the best, freshest
toppings. These pizzas even reheat as leftovers really well,
so order it as big as you can and take the rest home.

| Roman's Greek-Lebanese Cafe | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
i agree with the reviewer who mentioned the sampler. that's definitely
my pick. i don't remember if they call it by kibbi or a kubi, but
their's is great, with just a hint of cinnamon in the shell/crust.
very tasty! last comment: if they roll it in a leaf...i'll take
a dozen!!

||
| Semolina | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
It's the pasta versions of all your favorite foods!! I especially
enjoy the Jambalaya Pasta. The portions are very large, which
makes the price a bit better when you can get another meal out of
the leftovers. I would also like to applaud them for not going
overboard on atmosphere-clutter like most places seem to be
forcing on us these days. every positive comment for this place
is appropriately directed at the food.

| Serop's | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
The key difference between this place and every other mediterranean
restaurant in baton rouge is the elegance. if you are in the mood
for fine dining or want to impress somebody AND you have a craving
for greek and greek-related cuisine, this is the only place to
visit. (be sure to check out calandro's supermarket across the
street afterward.) serop's is a must try...over and over again.

| Portobello's Italian Grill | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
i am NUTS ABOUT MUSHROOMS!! that's my favorite when i come here.
i can't review this without also mentioning the mushroom ravioli
served on baby spinach (can't remember what it's called and not
positive they still offer it). get the flat bread appetizer,
well worth the inexpensive price. if you like feta and marinara,
their combination of the two for dipping the bread in is a special
treat. have also heard great things about their fettucini alfredo
from the most knowledgable alfredo connoisseur i know!

||
| Conans Pizza | Austin, TX | |
|
the deep-dish was pretty good, but not quite enough flavor to
pull it into the ranks of "the best". tried a pepperoni with wheat
crust and a barbeque chicken with white crust. The best part was
that the chicken was fajita-cut chunks, not shredded or cubed
bits without texture. both pizzas needed a little more cheese.
speaking of cheese, the cheese-bread was TERRIFIC!! do not order
it if you are grease-shy...it is very buttery and garlicy! overall,
very good pizza for the money and a nice atmosphere to compliment
the food...take a few friends and squeeze into a booth.

| Herrera Mexican Restaurant | Dallas, TX | |
|
Tired of the chains that serve the don't-want-to-offend-anyone-so-we'll-bland-it-down-to-the-lowest-common-denominator
hot-sauce? Tired of having the specially-marked "healthy choices"
because you feel guilty for not ordering them? Tired of rising
prices and shrinking quantities? THIS is the place for you..where
the hot sauce is perfect, the food is bad for you but too good to
care, the prices are more than reasonable AND they fill those
plates full!!! come as you are and leave a believer.

| Louisiana Pizza Kitchen | Baton Rouge, LA | |
|
The last time I was there...escargot and artichoke heart pizza!
sweet sweet SWEET!! get the appetizer of calamari...they are
sauteed, not fried to death. GOURMET pizza at it's absolute best!!
