| Cossetta Italian Market & Pizzeria | Saint Paul, MN | |
|
My take on this restaurant (I'm a chef/retired from field):
The atmosphere is very casual with good people watching in a trendy/younger
business area. An extension of the Grand Ave. shopping and dining
strip. The food is very consistent and affordable. Do not go if
you are a "food snob" looking for perfection or "authenticity".
Do go if you want to have a low key enjoyable experience. There
are no surprises here and it is a solid mainstream approach done
quite well.

| Art Song's Original Wings & Ribs | St. Paul, MN | |
|
When you say, "I'm getting some wings from Art Song's" people
get excited. This is a pick and take home place that has very limited
and unappealing seating. What it lacks in atmosphere and location
is made up for with huge portions and low prices. You've never
ever had wings like these...my friends say its the best greens
you can buy (of course, the aunt down in Kansas has the best method
and this is what she does...). There is plenty of parking while
you wait at the counter and I've never heard of any one being hassled
around there by the locals. It just looks like a rough area. Hey,
what do you expect, are you going to find good chicken and greens
sold amidst the gently hills of upscale exclusionary suburbs?
If you really try you might come close to making these wings at
home but it's best left to those with the tools and knowledge.
Try this place asap.

| Mickey's Restaurants | St. Paul, MN | |
|
In contrast, or affirmation, of the above review by Mr. Tabor:
Mickey's in Downtown St. Paul is a true dining car institution
from the mid 1930s. Yes, the help do look like they live a rough
life but, usually they are the sweetest people you could want
waiting on you. The food is what you would expect (old fashioned
heavy greasy Sunday morning fare). The coffee is always excellent
and they leave you alone if that's your mood. An experience that
is hard to repeat elsewhere...try Mickey's and see if it fits.
