| India Cafe | Farmington, MI | |
|
This tiny Indian restaurant is hidden in a strip mall almost not
visible from the road. The same strip mall contains an Indian
grocery and a Thai Restaurant. The food is not bad and they have
a buffet at lunch time. The menu is simple and contains most of
the typical Indian dishes that you are used to seeing. Unfortunately,
some of them are not described, so if you don't know what something
is you will need to get a description from your server and in my
experience, these descriptions are not communicated very well
because of the language barrier. I especially liked the Palak
Paneer which is a spicy creamed spinach dish with homemade Indian
cheese. Whether this is really cheese is a question in my mind,
but this is always how I see it described on Indian menus. They
have Thali plates and various appetizers as well as stuffed and
plain breads too. I found the Tandoori Chicken disapointing.
The Lamb Vindaloo was nice and hot and the lamb was tasty. They
have takeout too, but it does seem to take much too long to get an
order filled. Perhaps they do better if you call in your order.

| Damon's | Kalamazoo, MI | |

I am not a fan of this style ribs. But if you like the basted style,
it is worth a try. I prefer dry rub ribs.

| Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar | Kalamazoo, MI | |
|
Reasonable sandwiches and salads. Not any different than the
other Aplebees in the chain.
|

| Woody's Oasis | Lansing, MI | |
|
Woody's is a small middle eastern restaurant. I like this
place because the dishes are authentic and the prices are reasonable.

| Jersey Giant Submarine Sndwchs | Lansing, MI | |
|
The subs are a bit bigger here than the competitors. I do think
they are substituting quantity over quality though.

| Golden Rose Restaurant | Mason, MI | |
|
Not great cuisine, but it is one of the only places in this area.
It is a piano bar kind of place and they serve alcohol of course.
The entrees are just so-so.

| Moe's On Ten | Novi, MI | |
|
This is in the location that used to be called Leon's Family
restaurant. But the decor is vastly improved and the style of
the plcae is way upscale from what was there previously. They
specialize in seafood and do a nice job. I have only been there
for lunch and have had seafood and also salads and sandwiches.
Everything so far has been great. The staff is freindly and efficient
and the owner seems as if he is tring to do the best job possible.
The chicken cobb salad was inexpensive and very nicely presented.
The seafoood chowder was very tasty too. The fish and chips and
the catfish were both very nice. This upscale place has a nice
bar too. The seafood prices can get a bit much at lunch, but I notice
that they have now added some lunch specials that brought down
the potential cost of a meal there. This is a nice addition to the
area which really doesn't have much good seafood.

| Lazy Lizzrd Cantina | Novi, MI | |
|
You might have a hard time finding this place. Although the address
is Main Street, the actual location is behind a bunch of stores
in a complex located off Grand River and not visible from any main
road. But it is worth finding. They have a nice assortment of Tex-Mex
foods and everybody who goes here really seems to like the place.
The chile relejnos are very good as are the soft tacos, the burritos
and the various other typical favorites. They have some nice
hot sauces on the tables including my favorite; the very hot green
habenero sauce. Worth the trouble finding the place.

| Mesquite Creek Steakhouse | Novi, MI | |
|
I like this place. They have some great entrees. The burgers are
very large and have a nice ground sirloin taste. The big steaks
are good too. They have a few southwestern dishes thaty are nicely
prepared and the salad is a nice starter. They do have a bar. Now
if they only would lose the loud live entertainment that they
have onece in a while, this place would be perfect.

| Happy Sushi | Novi, MI | |
|
This is a sushi restaurant. It is located in a strip mall. They
have nice plates at lunchtime and they do have a sushi bar. I don't
think they are Japanese folks though because when I tried to speak
with them, they didn't understand. Maybe my Japanese is
getting rusty. Anyway, the Sushi was fresh and pretty good. It
wasn't first class, but good none the less and reasonably
priced.

| Red Robin | Novi, MI | |
|
This is a nostalgia themed burger place. They do a nice job on the
burgers. And they have other kinds of sandwiches, soups and salads
too. The young wait staff is attentive and everyone tries hard
to please. The many variations of burger types should please
just about anyone. They won't make them rare though. Too
bad.

| Ruby Tuesday | Novi, MI | |
|
This chain restaurant is located in the 12 Oaks mall. The strong
point is the big salad bar. If you are in the mood for rolling your
own salad, this is a good place to do it. I haven't had fantastic
luck with the rest of the menu items, but the soup and salad special
is always a good deal.

| Italian Epicure | Novi, MI | |
|
Well, it isn't all Italian. And I would hardly call it epicurian.
But it is a fairly good place. Here are the good things and the bad
things. On the good side, it is never very crowded and there are
a lot of tables. On the bad side, it is never very crowded and the
food tends to be served heavy on the oils. Prices are a bit higher
than they should be for what they serve too. This place used to
be called the Country Epicure and that was a bad description,
but changing it to the Italian Epicure didn't make much more
sense. Lots of parking. I guess taht goes with it never being very
crowded...

| Kentucky Fried Chicken | Novi, MI | |
|
This is a bigger than average KFC. So if you need to take out food
for the office or to take home, they aren't usually out of
chicken. A KFC is a KFC is a KFC though and there is not much to say
that differentiates this one from another. They do take credit
cards.

| New Peking Restaurant | Novi, MI | |
|
Just so-so Chinese food. Ther are so many good Chinese restaurants
in the area, so after two disappointing experiences here, I didn't
go back.
|
||
| Red Hot and Blue Barbeque | Novi, MI | |
|
I love barbeque. I hated this place. What a waste of time and money.
The food was greasy and flavorless. The side dishes didn't
help either. This place won't last long.
|
||
| B D's Mongolian Barbeque | Okemos, MI | |
|
Like the rest of ther Mongolian Barbeques, the select your ingredients
and have it cooked on the grill theme works and people enjoy being
creative in making their own food choices. You can eat a lot if
you want and take small portions and go back several times if you
want. They serve rce and tortillas (yes!) to complimetn the stir
fry style dishes you create and the cooks prepare for you.

||
| Tunnel Bar-B-Q | Windsor, ON | |
|
This place is not fancy, but the ribs are very good. And they are
the dry rub variety, which are harder to find. They have a few different
kinds of sauces on the table. None of them are particularly very
spicy, but they ae all different and interesting.

||
| The Original Pancake House | Chicago, IL | |
|
A breakfast kind of place, but serves other things too. Not particularly
impressive. It caters to the ofice worker downtown. Not a destination,
but fine for a fueling if you are in between meetings and need a
quick snack.

| Red Cedar Grill | Williamston, MI | |
|
I've only been at lunh time, but I really liked those meals.
The sandwiches and salds are great and this place is a real oasis
in Willaimston.
