I have gone there many times and for a down home country place they could learn a lot if even from a Hot dog vendor. The breakfast is plain you could and should just stay home. The lunch menu please drive to Suffolk or Ahoskie and get a burger. Dinner well a frozen dinner has more tasteâ€¦ Please keep on driving I donâ€™t care how many cars you see there its just not good food. less

It is a casual fine dining place with a menu for every taste. They specialize in Seafood, but have all free rang and natural meats. They grow their own vegetables when season allows, and all of their food is made from scratch. They even make all of their bread and to die for desserts. We loved it and are going back soon. My wife and I have made it a habit to patron the Tale of the Whale (TOEW) everytime we visit OBX. We were VERY disapointed in our last visit. It took a few visits to the TOEW to finally realize that they discriminate against families with children. The best seats (w/ views of the water) went to older clientel and childless couples. Families with young children get placed in the large ''rumpus room'' with all the rowdy customers. Additionally, our visit to TOEW was further ruined by the over-cooked pasta and seafood. Our daughter flatly refused to eat her pasta. My wife's fried shrimp dinner was vulcanized by over frying. Overall, the food was bland and tasteless. By the time I reached the end of my dinner, I was experiencing a gag-reflex. I assume it was due to the overuse of MSG on the food. Sadly to say, TOEW will not be on my dinner schedule for my next visit to OBX. I wish I had gone back to Awful Arthur's again. They know seafood there!! less

It is small (15 tables) and they make the specials in such small quantities that the change while you are trying to read the specials board. The only thing that is not homemade is the fried chicken (oh well I guess you don't go to the beach for southern fried chicken anyway). A must stop on your way to the OBX less

Crawford House Cafe
The building Crawford House was in has gone to other management and is no longer the same restaurant, nor same type. Would not recommend new place.
