I read so many glowing 5 star reviews about Milano, it was our civic duty
to finally eat here. Russian Hill parking - maddening, impossible.
Take muni or pay for parking somewhere down on Van Ness and hike up the
hill. Our table reservation promptly honored. Friendly greeting then quickly
seated in the cramped front window room. Busy Sunday night, took the
waiter 25 minutes to take our orders. Romano salad was light, fresh, & crunchy. Minestrone / Lentil
soup with homemade beef stock equally good. Lasagna was sauted style,
not the baked gummy mess you get in Americanized places. Good but not
great, a little watery tasting. Linguini with cream sauce was over
powerfully rich - But Yum! Ricotta tart was warm and tasty. Small glasses of wine at $10-$12 each are overpriced. Bill for 90 minutes
of fun = $114. Verdict: Very good food, nice people, cramped & crowded room.
Smallest public toilet in San Francisco. I like Antica Trattoria located 2 streets away better.

Well We were back again to this restaurant last night. We seem to eat
here once a year on our Anniversary (Today) and again everything was
great. The owner and our waiter remembered us even though we only eat here once
a year...that is so nice. I am always impressed at how reasonable the prices are at this restaurant.
The menu is certainly a bit limited but the daily specials have always
been varied and delightful. I can honestly say that I have never had
a bad meal here and the service is always fun, engaging and attentive!
Aldo the owner is always on top of things and even though I do understand
that there have been some underwhelming reviews this place is truly
one of the hidden gems of San Francisco! Eating at Restorante Milano
for me is like having a great bottle of wine that you found for $20! Itls certainly easy to find great food in San Francisco.....and it;s
easy to find reasonable prices (well maybe not that easy)....but Milano
is the absolute best of both worlds!!! Ask for a table in the back on top when you call as long as you have a party
of 4 or less!! Good eating!

We had 2 meals here, to give it a chance. But, no mas!!! The food
here is bland, not much spice, too little garlic and yet, they
call it Italian. Portions small, service not very personal,
except when they bring the bill.
Again, we gave it a chance. Now, on to better SFO haunts!

Honestly, this is a GOOD restaurant and the staff and owner are
very nice. The food was GOOD, not great, as Zagat thought. But,
after reading all the reviews, and because 2 of our favorite resaurants
had gone out of business, we decided to try Milano.
However, while the owner is a real Italian, as was the waiter's
accent, they know little about how to cultivate and/or gain new
business. We had a slight problem, that grew.
It was our 37th wedding anniversary and, when I made the reservations
a few days ahead, I told the owner this. When we arrived, there
was no acknowlegement of it and the owner tried to put us in the
middle of several other quite close tables, like in a cafeteria.
I asked for a small, quiet table above and he gladly accomodated.
We ordered our food and the waiter asked if we'd like a glass
of wine. I said we'd like a full bottle. When he came with the
wine, he poured two FULL glasses, which should have been a clue.
I later told the waiter that I had ordered a bottle and he said he'd
misunderstood and said he'd just opened that bottle so no
problem. Well, the bottle was not full when he poured ours.
So, the owner then came and said he knew how much was in a full bottle,
4 glasses and a "little" more, and that he would take
care of it. Well, he filled our 2nd glass, but my wife's glass
was actually still 1/2 full at the time. The owner later came and
gave the other 1/2 glass.
Yes, this seems like a minor thing, but it was our first time here
and IT WAS OUR ANNIVERSARY, as the owner had been told at least
THREE TIMES. I wasn't asking for anything special, just
a special night with my wife.
After we were stiffed on the wine, remember anniversary, they
then brought the dessert menus, which I chose to ignore. I paid
the bill and we left. We won't be back, only because they seemed
to not care about someone's 37th wedding anniversary and
more about how they would not be out an extra ounce of wine.
If I were the owner, I would have, at a minimum, offered one free
dessert, or even the full amount of wine and maybe a bit more, since
there was an obvious mistake on their part.
No more Milano! And Zagat, your are a bunch of idiots, the food
here is just above average, not the best N. Italian east of the
Mississippi!!!
If you want real Italian, go to Pastaria & Market in Los Gatos
and get fine quality, larger portions, and never stiffed on your
wine. The all understand English quite well and the prices are
also better!

I thought the restaurant was great. I had only been there one time
for lunch. The food was good and fairly priced. I think what realy
sells this place is the atmosphere - very comfortable and elegant.
Thanks!

This is an excellent Italian restuarant. Good home style cooking
in generous potions. The fried mozzerella is excellent, as is
pretty much everything. Adults and kids alike love it!! Great,
family atmosphere.

Excellent, but dont come here if your indecisive, the menu is
large, but all the staff are helpful and can answer any question
you may have. The amatriciana was wonderful, and my request to
spice it up a touch was carried out. No need to splash out on expensive
wine either, the house wine more than holds its own
