Possibly the best meal I've had in my life! Everything perfect
except 4th/entree course - probably 4.5 stars for that part. Overall,
EXCELLENT

I've eaten here 20 times. If I'm downtown and want Italian,
I come here. I've eaten solo at the bar and have had family dinners
with 10 people crowded into the biggest booths. Food quality has always
ranged from good to fantastic. A full on dinner with drinks, appetizers
, main course, dessert, a bottle of medium priced usually costs $65
per person. It' not cheap, especially if you and your date are crammed
into a small bistro table on the bar side. You feel a little more indulged
if you get the back raised booth in the hotel lobby section. You'll
need six in your party to qualify for that location. Ask your server
for for the freshest fish and you'll get a great meal. Seasonal
appetizers are always good palate teasers. The bar can be overcrowded
mayhem at cocktail hour, and you have to push your way thru this crowd
to reach the maitre d' podium. Push on through, it's worth
the effort.

I have been going to Kuleto's since I read about it's
opening many years ago. I go almost every time I visit S.F., many
times twice a visit! I have always had attentive service, a lil
slower when they are busy. I tend to go early to avoid the rush.
I love everything I have tried from the seasonally rotating menu.
I am Italian and was raised on traditional old country cooking.
Only Kuleto's comes close to matching my Nonna's cooking
with the superb plates that are distributed from Kuleto's
kitchen and grills. My favorite is a non-traditional grilled
radichio salad featuring pancetta bacon wrapped around radichio
wedges and finished on a warm plate of caesar/pesto dressing
and crumbled feta chesse. It is soo savory with the salty tangy
crisped bacon, bitter lettuce, tangy dressing and cheese. My
mouth waters with every bite. It is the start to many a fine meal.
Their polenta is always creamy, as well the risotto has great
texture, the chops always grilled to perfection as ordered.
The vegetables always fresh. The pasta always al dente. There
breads always irresistable. The Tiramisu is better than my Nonna's,
and I love hers. Sorry Nonna. I never blame bad service on the house,
just that employee. But I have never had bad service at Kuleto's,
NEVER. This based on Dozens of visits over almost two decades.
I am biased. I have never found a better Italian ristorante than
Kuleto's, some as equal for their own qualities, but NONE
as consistent over the years.

ate lunch here today which is my first visit here in several
years. While the place is noisy, the food was very good. We ate
light with an appetizer of mozarella, basil, eggplant, olives,
and tomatoes covered with olive oil and balsamic vinegar - very
tasty. We also had the squash soup which was quite fine. The risotto
was good too, but I've had better. This ended our light lunch,
What it isn't is a place for a three hour meal over a couple
of bottles of wine and a long talk, but if you want consistent high
quality food in a bustling Union Square
atmosphere...

I had a joyous experience here. Without reservations, a toddler
in tow, with some flexibility, they squeezed us is. The staff
was personal and absolutely fussed over the child (quite the
opposite of what I thought we would experience!). They treated
us like royalty, the food was splendid, the kind you savor each
bite! The two modest bottles of wine were each delightful, the
creme brulee was great, and good scotch topped it off. It was crowded,
but we were never rushed. You can spend more for similar food,
spend lots more for even better food, and certainly spend a lot
more for wine, but for reasonably priced, good atmosphere, and
good service, this is the place. Can't wait to go back.
