This place may be a bit over rated. We had salads that were marginal. I literally could do better buying a prepackaged salad at Safeway and could definitely make one better.

great place for a not-so-casual-dining experience. Good meats

like lamb and duck and excellent wine. Good for dates The food and service has consistantly been excellent here. Even when I had to wait

The best restaurant in San Francisco on a consistent basis for the money. Yes...there are better....but why pay for something that really is not that much better.

The restaurant is elegant. The tables are a little close together and the service is good. The Steel Fish was delicious and the quail dish was tasty even though it was small. The hazelnut mousse cake was fantastic. The price is pretty good for French food. This restaurant is a must try.

great value for the money. you get surprised by the time you get

inside as compare to what you might have expected from looking

at the place from outside as it's located not at most upscale neighborhood. food is great and service is good. as I said, you get most for your

money. I pick this place one of the best place in S.F for what you

get for your money spent

This place is th eepitome of a bistro. Salade Lyonnaise, Foie gras tourchon, all the great countryside classics are here. Prices are excellent for what you get. Service is fair but not great. If you want an top notch meal but have a somewhat limited budget this is the place to go.

The entrees were good, duck and lamb, but not spectacular.
Desert was ok. The Goat Cheese soufflé was dry.
Will not be back..once was enough.

Wow, the prices were extremely reasonable for the quality! Both of us came out of there, licking our chops and only $65 poorer (without wine). The pork tenderloin dish was simply divine! My husband ordered the steak - the promme frites (a.k.a. french fries) were the best I have ever had. Their drinks, however, at are quite strange . . . my lemonade tasted like pure lemons without sugar. Too sour for my personal taste. My husband's martini was way too strong. The desserts, on the other hand, were out of this world. I liked the creme brulee, but the warm chocolate garmoud was something else! We will definitely come back here again - very right for the price. The place is cute, but very crowded. Reservations highly recommended.

My favorite French restaurant in the Bay Area for the price. The

food is outstanding, and the deserts are out of this world: the

best creme brulee I've had this side of the Atlantic. Depending

on who waits on your table, the service ranges from average to

very good. The restaurant is a little cramped, but that's also

part of the charm of a French bistro. Reservations can be hard to come by, especially on a weekend, but I've sometimes gotten late

seating (10pm) at the last minute.

This is a great resturant. Food is great. The deserts are Incredible. There are wide varieties to choose from. The service was good too. The only problem is the tables are too close.

Heaven. I eat here about once every three months and have never been disappointed. Reservations have always been honored when we arrive. Service has always been perfect, an excellent blend of professional style with just the right amount of friendly interaction. The food is wonderful (the pork dish with apples is to die for). The wine list diverse, with great values in the $20-30 range and excellent selections if you want to spend more. Ok, you might find somewhat better food at other places, BUT WHAT MAKES THIS PLACE MOST SPECIAL IS VALUE! A dinner of the quality one would expect and receive in Paris for less than it would cost in Paris. One bonus: it's two blocks from the Caltrain station, so if you live on the Peninsula you can take a train to the restaurant, have a nice meal, and not worry about parking or driving. All the more Parisian.

well this is from a posting to ba.food some time back: a little more on Fringale: i had pretty high expectations and had just come off a spectacular prix fixe at The Heights so i was a little disappointed. all of my co-diners were satisfied and the desserts were quite nice. there were a couple of dishes i'd heard about and would have like to try but they didnt seem to be on the menu. service was ok ... i think the wait people might have just figured my somewhat animated group just wanted to be left alone. everyone ate [and drank] to quite a satied point for about $45/person with tax && tip. while i'd probably go back, i think i'd rather spend 25% more if that would push us from "very good" up to "sublime". i will add: i join with Sharmila Ravi above in being a little suprised at reputation and resultant reservation lead time for this place. i didnt think the staff was pretentious or anything like that. it was quite clear from the answering machine message i was left confirming my reservation, the speaker would have been more confortable speaking french.

This is one awesome restaurant. Perhaps a bit intimate as to closeness of tables, but our waiter was outstanding, our reservation was honored immediately, and the quality of ingredients and preparation were stellar. I started with Soup of the Day which was a Corn Chowder, which was rich and smooth. A touch of crushed pepper brought out nice flavor. Entree was Filleted Salmon, which was quite tender and flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Desert was an icecream with berries, nuts, and chocolate. Not too rich, considering the richness of the Salmon. Oh, by the way, I stole a couple of my Dad's French Fries.....perhaps best I have ever eaten!! Might just go back to have soup, fries, and a glass of wine!! Overall, a memorable dining experience. Great drinks, very fair prices.
