This is the best Sushi restaurant I ever had. I have been a long time customer after I found it. Their are lots of fresh fish to choose from every time I visted. Some seasonal specials are also impressive if you wouldn't mind trying something new,

Yes. Agree with the other reviews. Try Seafood salad, it's not on the menu. Go there before 6 p.m. to avoid waiting. must try!

I like to eat the yellowtail, sea urchin and sweet shrimp sushi when I go there. A good sushi place to dine at.

Great date spot. Quality of food is excellent and not too expensive.

You get what you pay for, and here it is excellent food.

This restaurant does not get the respect it deserves, ever since the attacks in New York on September 11 traffic in the airport has slacked off. Due to the lack of international travelers it almost always empty. The food is excellent! If you like Sushi you will fall in love with Ebisu. Ask chef Daisuke Shimiza for his recommendations, parking is free if you dine in the airport so if you are a resident of the San francisco bay area or just passing through the terminal and want some real Sushi stop by Ebisu. Check out thier website at www.ebisusushi.com

Good food, Standard Japanese (bento, etc.). prepared well. That’s about it, nothing spectacular, but good.

I have been eating at Ebishu ever since i was a baby. I am a hard core sushi eater and have eaten sushi all over the world, and Ebishu by far has the best sushi around. If you like fancy sushi, and sushi that can be customly made to your liking, then definately go to Ebishu. If you've never eaten sushi and want to try it for the first time, I highly recommend Ebishu. You'll have so much fun whether you sit at the sushi bar or a table. The sushi is always fresh, and the service is Great!

I think Kirala, Ebisu and Hamano are about even. Been to each one about 3 dozen times each. The wait and parking at Ebisu can be iritating. Hamano's parking can be awful as well. Each has its' strong points. They all have excellent NIGIRI's....I think Hamano's edges the other two. They all make excellent rolls, however, I think Ebisu is just in a league of thier own. At Kirala..they are pretty well balanced...EASY PARKING. It's really hard to say who's better. I've had the opportunity to meet some of the staff at each of these places and been treated rather well....(Mr. Hamano can be..............strict...his sushi chefs are REALLY EXPERIENCED)....(Ebisu's chefs are very creative and friendly and live!)...(Kirala's owner is very nice..she treated us to a free dessert one time)
Let me tell you the key to Ebisu...get to know one of thier chefs....I think this is very true to just about any sushi place.
Hey folks! If you like these places like I do, TRY MOKI SUSHI in BERNAL HIEGHTS!!!! Some of you might switch your allegiance.

THIS IS A MUST TRY! Some consider this to be the BEST! Leave some room for dessert and try thier house specialty/

Ebisu is in the center of the restaurants located near U.C. Medical Center. As a result it has a following from the university who seem to be more interested in camaraderie than in the food. This restaurant has gotten rave reviews over the years. Swearing that I would not go back there again I had a lapse of good judgment and returned. Its typical of many places in that 7th and Irving St area. Crowded, noisy and a bit of drinking with a lot of shouting. The place generally was tired and dirty and the main purpose of the staff is to get you in and get you out. The sushi is okay but its generally thrown together and the place is not worth going back again. This time I will keep my word to myself and friends. Try Hana Sushi nearby. The sushi there is ordinary however the overall meals and service have been consistent and good over all these past 15 years I have been going there.

The best sushi in SF! The atmosphere is delightful and the staff friendly. The sushi chef is always ready to suggest a particular roll based on your individual taste. My favorites are the 49er roll and the tootsie roll. The only drawback, if you want to call it that is the occasional long waits on the weekends. Prepare to be timely and you wont be disappointed.

i think it's a little overrated, but i still like the sushi. definitely fresh! the sushi makers were very engaging (i saw them from my table making jokes and drinking w/ the customers at the bar) and entertaining. the restaurant is rather small so the wait was a little long. but the wait wasn't as long as i expected probably because my boyfriend and i went there later in the night. he had this great yosenabe. i liked everything there... esp the miso soup! now no one really talks about the miso soup, but that evening being rather chilly the soup was very welcomed and esp. delicious. it's sweeter than other restaurant and flavorful. i'd definitely return to this restaurant when i'm in sf and in the mood for sushi.

There are far better places to go than this for sushi. I'm not a hard core sushi eater so maybe my appreciation for this particular spot is not there. Any sushi place that can't make a tasty California roll is not worth going back for. I will pass on the line and the food in the future.

i'm giving ebisu 3 stars. honestly, i was a little disappointed, but only because ebisu was so hyped up to me by everyone in every newspaper. i've been hearing about ebisu 4 yrs, but i just last week finally went there. i saw it a few months ago while on irving st. and decided i should go there now that i knew where it is. anyway, i guess the sushi is really good, very, very good. but the non.sushi food is just so so. the miso soup is extraordinarily good, i gotta say. yes, the sushi is really fresh, and the sushi rice tastes good, and the fish is tastily fresh. yes, sushi sushi sushi wise it's great. i ought to stick to ordering sushi there. See, my big disappointment was in the seafood yosenabe. no, it was far from horrible; it was pretty good. but it wasn't as good as, say, kirala's. i think kirala is a better japanese restauarant all 'round. @ the same time, it's not like ebisu is a bad japanese restaurant. it's great, n' everyone should try it. the service was quite friendly. the restaurant was very crowded, n' we sat at a table. it's not really ritzy.looking, just a simple japanese decor. parking is awful, and actually i don't ever want to park on the street in that neighbourhood @ nite again. it's not that it looks like a bad neighbourhood, but someone from the chinese restaurant up 9th st. threw eggs @ my car or something. that's really messed up. no way i'll go to _that_ restaurant!

We used to live only a block from this place and we made a habit of eating here when we had the money. Like all sushi, it is a bit expensive, but the fish is fresh and the service is great. I would try the Dynomite hand roll if you get the chance to stop in. Also, the spicy tuna cut roll and the miso soup was some of the best I have had.

I like the restaurant, the food is good, but I do think that it is over-rated. I really don't think an hour wait is really worth it for Ebisu. And for that price, I can really get better Japanese food somewhere close by.

This is a fun place and well worth the half an hour wait we endured. The service was fast and efficient. My favorite sushi is the spicy tuna handrolls and they gave me one of best I have had!! Also, if you are daring, order the oyster shooters, then watch in disbelief as the chef whips one up. It tastes a lot better then it looks!
