This is by far the best restaurant in Dallas! The food is simply exquisite as is the service. Though the setting is formal and elegant, the atmosphere is not stodgy. Furthermore, the tables are spaced at a comfortable distance. The tuna tartare and the salmon are excellent; the Grand Marnier soufflé is outstanding.

I was highly impressed that the entire staff recognized and greeted me warmly on my second visit--after a full year! The French Room is a MUST for epicureans visiting Dallas.

I was very disappointed by this restaurant in my one visit. This is one of the most expensive restaurants in Dallas, yet the food was rather uninteresting, especially on the tasting menus. I think you can do well -- at least get a good meal -- if you order off the menu according to what really strikes your palate, but don't be too adventurous here. I don't think they have the skills in the kitchen.
For example, ordering off the menu one of my companions received the the provini tenderloin of veal, french goat cheese polenta, roasted cipollini onions, and a peppery morel cabernet sauce. The veal was nicely cooked and tender. The sauce was very good. The morels seemed to be infused with meat stock and the sauce added bright and deep flavors with a strong peppery element as well. The polenta was tasty and creamy. It all went together nicely.
But I got the vegetarian tasting menu and I don't think there was one item I'd order again anywhere. Similarly, I could say the same for the Chef's tasting menu that another companion ordered. Even only one of our three desserts was actually good.
On top of this we received poor service. We had to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. Then once we were seated we were pushed to order quickly. Our head server sometimes gave us the wrong dishes and couldn't remember what was in the dishes. Even though the bathroom was a bit of a hike, I was only told generally where it was. Most restaurants in this price range would show you to the bathroom, especially when it's outside the restaurant in the lobby of the hotel.

The food and service at the French Room has always been excellent, but their new non-smoking policy has lost me to them forever.

One of the best, have eaten here a number of times: the service is attentative without being oppressive, the food is to die for. The atmosphere is one of the best with painted murals on the ceilings. Not cheap (actually pretty expensive) but worth every penny.

Situated in the Adolphus Hotel downtown Dallas; very elegant but relaxed. Rich furniture and decorations from the 1912 era. Service is top notch, and the wait staff is very helpful. Food is out of this world. Some french, but mostly nuevo classic. Best souffles in all of Dallas. See http://www.nhhr.com/adolphus/dining.html) for a view of the beautiful dining room.
