THE SENATOR DINER - 253 Victoria St. Toronto
The Senator has always set a standard for my breakfasts. Home
of the $3.25 large O.J., the Senator sets the mood for a cozy diner.
There is a lounge upstairs that is famous for it's Steak. I've
eaten there before but this review isn't about that. It's about
BREAKFAST!!! This place is expensive but the ambiance, the service
and the quality of food more then make up for it. There is some slow
jazz playing over the speakers as you walk in and the diner has
an old-school greasy spoon feel to it. The plates are heaped with
food and the coffee is hot. My biggest beef is with the prices.
It came to $9.15 for just myself. I ordered the Senator Breakfast
# 2 which was 2 eggs (over easy), beans, home fries (huge and not
that many), 3 strips of bacon cooked just right and 4 slabs for
HUGE toast that was served with a wad of jam. I also ordered a small
O.J. ($2.00) on the side to go with my coffee. It is SMALL!! Make
no mistake about that but it is delicious. You'd be hard pressed
to find more freshly squeezed orange juice around town then this.
Bon Apetit. Enjoy it.. It's a great spot for a 'morning-after'
date. Also located just around the corner from the Eaton Centre.
