Very neat. Love the atmosphere, modestly bustling, and everyone having a good time. Sausages were spectacular. I actually liked the paella, but others didn't think it was worthy of the other dishes. Desserts were also very, very good. Highly recommended.

Very Spanish cuisine. It would be nice if the waiters were Spanish as well. They have a very nice wine selection. The desserts were very nice. The tapas were tasty as well.

OK, the paella was on the uncooked side, one out of 8 ain't bad. There was plenty of good food at the table. Simple potatoes with slightly spicy sause was great. Noodle seafood dish was excellent. The sangria (fruit juice + wine) was tasty. Sharing food is fun and social. The place has an old lived in feel. Waiters were old-timers to add to the charm. Parking in this neighborhood is a BEAR. Park far away and taxi in or plan to circle for 20-30 min on a weekend evening. Regardless, go and enjoy.

It's a good idea to come to Zarzuela with a growling stomach, so as to take full advantage of the sheer variety of authentic spanish dishes served up by a bevy of speedy spanish waiters. You can go the conservative route of ordering just a standard dinner, or you can order a number of tapas for your table and tell your waiter to keep them coming. The flavors are fresh, spicy and bright. Although it can get a bit noisy at times in the main dining area, Zarzuela is nonetheless an excellent restaurant to initiate spanish food virgins or to take veterans of rounds of tapas down a delicious trip of remembrance
They don't take reservations, so getting in can be somewhat of a wait--although waits seem somewhat shorter if done with sangria in at least one hand. As a resident of the area, well I know the travails of finding a parking spot. Besides, after multiple rounds of sangria, it's probably not a good idea to be driving about.

This restaurant is GREAT!!!!!!!! I've live in the city for all of my life, and this is the BEST spanish/tapas place in the Bay Area. I love the Gambas al Ajillo, Croquestas de Hamon y Pollo and of course their Paella. If you want truly great spanish food, it's worth the wait at Zarzuela.

Wonderful tapas place on Russian Hill. Everything was flavorful and recently prepared. It's not crowded for a weekday late lunch.

I certainly would have no qualms bringing an astute friend from Madrid or Buenos Aires here as the food is often exceptionally tasty and wonderfully presented. The tapas as a prelude to the entrees will not disappoint, from the lightly seasoned octopus salad to the satisfying gazpacho. For the entree, the ubiquitous paella sets the standard, always with fresh shrimp, mussels and fish and a delectable broth infused rice. Top all this off with a good bottle of vino blanco de espana.

Long wait, but entirely worth it. This is a great spot to get many differing, creative flavors and combinations. Fun atmosphere, owned by an ex-dentist, I think, who is ambitious to serve and make it a good dinner. The price I mentioned is for a whole dinner for one.
