Postrio has a reputation and an attitude to go along
with it. We made reservations well in advance for my
birthday, yet when we arrived, we were greeted by a rude
hostess, who somehow had us down for an hour later. The
place was crowded with pretentious people. We waited in
the standing room only bar,and by the time we were
escorted to our table, I was just drunk enough to shake
off the stuffy vibe.
You are seated in a brightly lite, open booth style
table,so you can watch other dinners pretend not to watch
you. I was amused by the menu, with it's seemingly
impossible ingredient combinations. Our food was actually
pretty good, considering, but the secret to Postrio is
the DESSERTS! You will never never taste more heavenly
things in your life. Try the combination platter, you will
be impressed. The moral to this story, is go to Postrio
after the dinner crowd, because you don't need a reservation, and just
order dessert. You'll leave satisfied, and your pocket-book will be
spared the extravegant dinner price.

there are several restaurants to choose from in san francisco. your
choice of eating establishments depends upon what type of mood, type
of food, and cost. if you are looking for a romantic evening, not
soon to be forgotten, then posrio's is the place for you. however, if
you are lookinfg for a place for great and satisfying food, this os
not the place for you!!!!!!!!! the dessert was heavanly, but that is
the just of it. The service was excellent, the timliness was great,
but the food, although gourmet, did not meet our fancy, next time we
will not be dinning there unless craving a to die for dessert.

I ate lunch here with a large group, so I was able to get a decent
sampling of the food without paying for a much pricier dinner.
Interior has three levels (bar, middle dining, and intimidating
staircase to lower dining/open kitchen). Windows in the main dining
room with white walls create an airy space, decor is abstract and
simple. Service was knowledgable but the food took a really long
time to arrive (rest. was busy but not filled). Cuisine with Asian
accents is nice, but some ingredients in the dish were too strong.
Lunch prices are reasonable. I might not go here for dinner bc it's
more expensive and more worth it to go to Hawthorne Lane, Aqua,
Boulevard...For all the acclaim Postrio has received, I think it's a
bit overrated.
(Lunch) Appetizers: $6-10, Entrees: $10-16, Desserts: $7
-Roasted duck was delicious- crispy and fatty skin, tender meat.
(Supposedly their signature dish)
-Skate wing (sting ray) was incredible- lightly sauteed w/ pancetta
mashed potatoes. STANDOUT.
-Salmon was ok, pasta ingredients were overwhelming.
-For appetizers, definitely try the peppered seared ahi tuna or salad
with prosciutto and figs.
Mustard sauce did not go well with potstickers.
