Here you´ll find answers to questions that we hear a lot. Feel free to use the search bar to find what you´re looking for. If you don´t find the answer you´re looking for, ask a question on our Advice Boards, or contact a member of the Dine team at the Help page.
Dine is dedicated to the free exchange of information, with an emphasis on FREE. There will never be a cost to any organization or individual to take advantage of our services.
Great question! We´re funded through a private grant from Compute.org, which, may we say, is doing some pretty cool stuff. They fund nonprofit, social-issue focused startups like Dine. We also keep the 'Roof over our heads' by accepting private and public donations and grants. You can learn more (or donate yourself) at our Donations page
There are a few things you can do to support us. The first (and easiest) is to get active: create a profile and start posting reviews and advice. Second, tell your friends, family, and any social service organizations you know to hop online and check Dine out themselves. Lastly, if you´d like to help us keep the lights on, head over to our Donations page and learn more about our levels of contribution.
First, do a quick search to see if we have your organization listed in our database.
If we do, click on the "I run this organization" button to create an account and start controlling the data yourself!
If we don´t have your organization in our database, please do us a huge favor and click the "submit a listing" button. You´ll enter the basic info for your organization, and we´ll follow up with you as soon as possible to verify and flesh out your profile!
Badges are simply a way for Dine to reward users who go the extra mile to contribute to the Dine community. You can change which of your badges are displayed on the Settings page. You can earn a Badge by achieving a specific goal, like posting a certain amount of advice or connecting with a group. If you want to earn Badges, check out our current list of available Badges here!
First, you might be surprised at how easy it is to get access to the internet these days. A good percentage of the homeless and recently displaced have access to the internet through public computers, shelters, and sometimes even smartphones. Second, we´re looking forward to a day when the internet is even more ubiquitous than it is now: citywide wi-fi networks, public internet programs, and other ways to connect to the internet from anywhere are all part of the not-too-distant future. We´re building the infrastructure now to prepare for a time when everyone has access to the internet.
Dine encourages users to form groups and families to support each other both on- and off-line. If you´re a member of a preexisting group, you can create a group page and invite members. You can define your group´s relationships, message each other on group lists, get updates on each other´s Dine status, and even earn badges together!
