Appetizer (crab cakes, ) soup and salad were very good. Entree came out luke warm at best and the prime rib had absolutely no flavor. The butter didn't even melt on our potatoes. Our waiter never once asked us if we liked our food. We would not recommend this restaurant to friends.

In our tour of steak houses, we stumbled upon this location.
Blake's makes several attempts to be an upscale steak house, and falters in one area. The food.
The food is average, but I just didn't feel as if I was getting the value for the money.
The service was excellent and we have been back several times until we found Grill on the Alley.

My wife and I celebrated a birthday at Blake's on a Sunday evening. It was not crowded at all, in fact rather quiet. We brought our own wine, and when the waitress learned it was a birthday she comped the corkage (normally 10$) and also a very good dessert. I had the prime rib, about 12 oz., a bit fatty (as all good prime rib is) but cooked just as ordered, and very good indeed. My wife had pork chops, so large she brought some home, and also very good. We shared a creamed spinach (everything is ala carte) which was just ok. This is a very good steak house, but probably not at the top of anyone's list. It's a bit pricey (most things seemed about 2 or 3 dollars more than they should be) and the service is not the best. It was slow, though there were few people in the place (I'd avoid it on Friday or Sat.), and though I heavily tipped the waitress because of the comping, she was somewhat grumpy, at least not effusive. Good, and suitable for an occasion, but not great.

For an early dinner prompt at 5p.m., we were the first patrons to arrive. We arrived at BLAKES and we sat at the bar and had a soft drink. Of the course the bar is stocked for whatever you may wish. It appeared that there were several different type of brews on tap and some of the best of liquors and wine. Our name was taken immediately. We were promptly seated at a window booth next to the Christmas tree. It was a special day for us since it was our 22nd anniversary. We never told a soul at the restaurant or the bar it was our anniversary. My other half..........She had the Rack of Lamb. She related that it was absolutely delicious. I tasted the lamb and it was very good. I had the Rib Eye steak............It was very tasty and tender. You have a choice of salads, soups, and potatoes. A fresh hot onion loaf is served. For dessert we shared a piece of macadamia nut pie. The fresh ground and brewed Keystone coffee was very tasty. We had an excellent waiter, his name is WADE. It all made for a very enjoyable evening. My recommendation is to get to the restaurant early and you will get lots of attention. No matter what I think you will get some of the best tasting and prepared food in San Jose. Good luck and enjoy!

I think the food at Blake's is very good. Actually, I LOVE the food there! However, the one thing that we experienced four out of the five times we were there is extremely slow service. I'm talking EXTREMELY SLOW service. I can't the restaurant was that busy either. We hardly saw our waiters at all those evenings. The funny thing is, on the other night, the service was one of the best I've ever witnessed. Go figure ...

We were looking for a good steakhouse in San Jose and found Blake's in San Pedro square. We were not disappointed. Our steaks were excellent, so was their roast duck. They also serve a tasty onion roll before dinner that's very good. The ambience was a little impersonal and noisy (it was a Friday evening), but overall the dinner was delightful. Bring a hearty appetite!

I was craving a steak and I looked through my reviews of Bay area restaurants. I read a review for Blake's and it seemed to fit the bill. Boy was I pleased!! This is a nice place, with lots of chrome and black leather booths. Very attentive waiters/waitresses and busboys who quickly took our order for a before dinner cocktail, gave us a rundown of the specials, and placed some excellent, hot bread on the table. I had the large filet mignon, rare. My companion had the rack of lamb. WOW!! Was what I kept saying. The food was superb, the filet had a wonderful smokey flavor and the rack of lamb (also rare) was heavenly. I was very impressed! Prices are a little steep but the quality of the food and the staff make this a real find of a good steakhouse. I will definitely be back for more!!

Entree price relects lunch prices. Excellent lunch, reasonably priced. Wonderful breads. I've only had lunch, but will be back to try a dinner.

This is one of our favorites, its a great steak house. Often we'll eat just selections from the appetizer menu....the grilled artichoke is outstanding!!! as well as the thai chicken sticks and the mahogany sirloin skewers. Nice atmosphere, great beer selection. Watch out for crowds during arena events.
