After trying the place for myself, I know now that my friend wasn't mincing words. The Barking Crab pays very close attention to the quality of their food and it was a true pleasure to eat there. I ordered the fried shrimp platter, which treated me to 9 jumbo sized shrimp (with cocktail and tartar sauce), a heaping mound of french fries and a side of cole slaw. The shrimp were huge, tender, crispy and absolutely full of flavor just by themselves. The tartar sauce was good, but in my opinion the cocktail sauce was even better; it had the perfect balance of spice. Our waitress (hey Lindsey!!) told us that they had just changed the recipe of their fries. While I never tried the first recipe, I love the new one! They were all long, crispy and had just the right amount of salt, not too much or too little. They were the perfect thing to finish off my leftover sauce with! The cole slaw could have tasted a little better, but since every table has a bottle of malt vinegar on hand, I just added some of that to it and it was tasty. The ambiance is casual, the servers are friendly and food is phenominal overall. If you happen to be going away for the weekend near this place and you love seafood, you simply need to eat here! less

The fish was overcooked and hard as were the fries. Portion was small, but service attentive. When we notified the waitress of our dissatisfaction with our meal, she stated the owner had cooked the food. We received no satisfaction for our disappointing meal. We have not returned. less

The meal was presented well, the portions were perfect, and the food was fantastic. However, the service was the worst I have ever seen, even compared to fast food and truck stops. We watched the service staff continuously ignore customers at the surrounding seven tables as they became more and more frustrated with the way their evening was turning out. Our recommendation: By all means, go to the White Horse Tavern, the food is excellent, but bring your own bread and wine, and don't make any other plans for the evening because you will never make it out on time. Food - 5 stars / Service - 1 star. less

It's casual but unique atmosphere lends to a great time and the great food sends it over the top. My friends enjoyed everything and loved the fact that they allow BYOB on tues and wed in the winter. Visiting from California, drove 2 hours from Boston to eat at Arturo Joe's based upon the reviews found here on the internet only to find the menu online was out dated and the prices were much higher ($3-4 a plate higher). When brought to the attention of the management, no adjustments were offered, only a weak apology. We sipped 2 beers, ate bread and ordered antipasto but didn't eat it. We put $20.00 on the table and left the restaurant in disgust due to the ill treatment of management. Management proceeded to approach our vehicle asking for more money threatening to call authorities. I have to say that this takes dining to an all time new low. I am not certain if all Rhode Islanders are this rude and disrespectful to customers but I am certain that in this economy they can't afford to be so arrogant as to remove all possibilities of attracting customers from other regions of our country. So the bottom line is this Management admitted to having knowledge of the False Advertizement of prices on their website yet elected to not offer concessions for misleading a customer and chose to take an arrogant and threatening posture. Perhaps they should not have reopened and saved these customers a 2 hour drive, anguish and embarrassment. You could find better commitment to service at McDonalds. Rating -10 on this one. less
