No pretense here; this is an old-school breakfast/lunch joint, and I hope it always stays this way. less

This is a very elegant banquet facility for every occasion. Best known for their food & service. Not your regular banquet food, delicious home made food! Normally we don't travel through Marengo, but we stopped and had a very pleasant evening. It was a Friday night, and the place was full. We had to wait a few minutes to get a table, but the hostess was very cheerful and offered us drinks while we waited. Having been a server in my past, I can understand how hectic it gets on a busy night. However, our server was fantastic! Cute, young blonde (I think her name was Susan, or Suzy), came up right away and greeted us. She was very friendly and quite funny. She told us the specials and since we had never been there before, we asked her what was good. I ended up getting the fish fry (cod) and my husband got the sea scallops (upon our server's advice). Both were fantastic! The sea scallops were especially good, I think they had a caper sauce on them...excellent. The prices were very reasonable, and they had a very nice beer selection. Our service was fantastic, and the food was great. We will be back again! less

They changed their name back after the failure of blue spruce cafe now they have aa new menu that is excellent and the service is great. The reason behind the poor rating is due to the fact that i asked to speek to the owner on more than once to express hoe much i enjoyed his restaurant. Our waiter said that he (Dave) was in a meeting with the chef everytime. It seemed like he was ignoring us! To my dismay we went to leave and Dave was sitting on a barstool with his laptop open playing solitare. He couldn't even pull his eyes away to say goodnight or thank you. That man was sooo ignorent to us we will NEVER return. less

Plus they have shortchanged us on sushi more than once and refuse to make it right. Terrible drinks and a bad pour of wine (cheap-cheap!) Bistro Wasabi is MUCH better, nicer waitstaff and managers, Try Kobe on Randall Rd too. Kyoto has a bad attitude toward customers. less

You can get Breakfast anytime of the day too. They are very family friendly. My neice was being a typical 3 year old, and the waitress brought over a coloring book and crayons to occupy her. The restaurant is very clean, and the waitstaff was very friendly. They make all of their soups homemade and I love the Ruben New Yorker Sandwich. On Fridays, they have a variety of Fish Specials. I love the Blackened Talapia. I brought my grandmother with us, and she loved that there were over 10 daily Senior Specials on the menu. They also host Karaoke on Friday Nights from 9pm - 2am. I cannot say enough about this place. If you are in the area, and you don't stop by, you are selling yoursef short!! less
